Constructed of tough, weatherproof extruded aluminum, the Hydrastar electric-over-hydraulic brake actuator will give you years of trailer-stopping performance. The actuator installs on your trailer, then splices into its wiring and connects to its hydraulic brake line. Reacting to electric signals sent from your in-cab electric brake controller when you apply the brakes in your tow vehicle, the Hydrastar applies pressure to the hydraulic system, thus activating the trailer's brakes. You get responsive hydraulic braking, which you control conveniently from inside your vehicle with your electric brake controller. The Hydrastar actuator meets all Department of Transportation regulations and complies with CFR-393 federal braking requirements.

Not all electric brake controllers work with this hydraulic brake actuator. See the following table to determine compatibility with common models of electric brake controllers. Certain models require the Hydrastar control adapter module (HBA-CAM; sold separately) to work with the Hydrastar electric-over-hydraulic brake actuator. For best performance, it is recommended that you use an aftermarket electric brake controller rather than an OEM factory-installed controller.

As of now I'm very excited to put this new product on my trailer.

by:

Still working like great no problems

by:

These are the pics I took when I was done. Took two days to do but we'll worth it. I took pics after first load and now it feels good to actually stop with out wondering if the magnets were going to fail. I appreciate the fast shipping . The only thing I had to pick up was 25 feet of brake line,15 feet was not going to be anough . Other then this. I love it. Thank you very much and God bless

by:

Installed on my 2009 Keystone Fuzion FZ302. I was very impressed by the fit and finish. What a difference in braking!! I don't think I will ever own a trailer with electric drums again. I was able to install all four in about 6 hours. This was taking my time to ensure all clearances were exact. The only thing I ran into was the sticky weights on my 16" wheels just touched the caliber. I had the wheels rebalanced with clip weights on the inside and we are now all good.

by:

Absolutely amazing. All the precision control of electric brakes with the advantages of hydraulic disc brakes. It was a relatively straight forward installation. I paired the Hydrastar actuater with Kodiac 4 wheel disc brakes. My boat and trailer weigh about 9,500 pounds. I've never had braking in a trailer this good before. I actually had to turn the sensitivity down on the cab controller. Totally worth it. I highly recommend the Hydrastar actuater, especially when paired with Kodiac 4 wheel disc brakes.

by:

In the video the last box is the one with the hydraulic pump, the only one that had no damage because it was well packed, good job

by:

Installation went easy after watching their installation video brake lines were easy to install had to purchase extra fittings (purchased through E TRAILER) to make it fit the way the way needed

by:

Great Product, I installed a four disc brake system in one afternoon and the pump works great. Now my 40ft. trailer stops my truck.

by:

very easy to install , well build . But need to by extra fluid lines, 40 feet trailer will need more fluid line.

by:

Parts look good only 2 bolts missing

by:

Pretty easy installation

by:

One year in and still no problems and functioning great.

  • Parts Recommendation for Converting to Electric/Hydraulic Disc Brakes on 2017 Montana 3160RL
Since you have Dexter 7,000 lb axles the Kodiak Disc Brake kit part # K2HR712D is the correct kit. You'd need a kit for each of your axles that you want disc brakes on. This kit is also Dacromet coated which means it will resist corrosion for a very long time. You'll also need bearings part # 25580 and # 14125A as well as the seals part # RG06-070. Then for an actuator kit with brake lines and everything else you'll need I recommend the HydraStar Electric-Hydraulic Actuator w/ Line Kit...

  • How To Convert Trailer with 12K Axles from Drum to Electric Over Hydraulic Disc Brakes
Yes, we do offer disc brakes for trailers with 12,000 lbs axles. I recommend the Kodiak Disc Brake Kit, part # K2HR12A11-120DW for AL-KO or part # K2R1258L12 for Dexter/Lippert (Most Common) axles. If you don't know what axles you have you'll need to crawl under the trailer and find the tag on the beam which will list the axle manufacturer. In order to complete your setup you'll just need the Hydrastar Marine Electric Over Hydraulic Actuator Kit part # CAR-HBA16-2. This works for single...

The factory trailer brake controller in your 2011 Ford F-250 will have no issues at all working with the HydraStar Electric-Hydraulic Actuator w/ Line Kit for Disc Brakes # CAR-HBA16-2. It was just the controllers used in 2007 and 2008 Ford trucks that had compatibility issues, so you are good to go. I will say that wiring these can be on the difficult side though, so I highly recommend using a junction box, like the # 277-000141, if you do not already have one. One of the big pluses with...

The Kodiak Disc Brake Kit # K2R35S uses a 10" rotor with a 5 on 4-1/2 bolt pattern and has a capacity of 3500-lbs, which will work well for your Shorelander. In order to convert from electric brakes to disc brakes with an oil bath, that will also allow you to use your current 8 on 6-1/2 bolt pattern with 1/2" studs you'll want to use the Dexter Disc Brake Kit # K71-694-695-11. These rotors have an E-coat finish for better protection against the elements and the hub comes with the bearings, races, seals and oil caps included, so you won't have to track down...

The hub/rotors included in the # T4843800 are Dacromet coated. Dacromet has a 400-600 hour salt spray rating, which means it can withstand 400-600 hours of exposure before signs of corrosion begin to appear. Although stainless offers better corrosion resistance, the Titan kit would last you for awhile, especially if you do a good job of hosing the trailer off after exposure to salt water. Since there is no axle beam connecting one side to the other it creates independent suspension at all the wheels. For 2 axles you would need 2 kits. For compatible disc brakes I recommend Kodiak dacromet disc brake kit # K2HRCM1337-9DAC. This kit is for 1 axle so to put brakes on both axles you would need 2 kits. For as much weight as you are...

  • Electric Over Hydraulic Actuator For Disc Brakes to Replace Surge Brake Actuator
There is not a direct replacement for the LP7000 actuator for disc brakes, and to answer your question, electric over hydraulic braking is better in really every single way. While hydraulic brakes give better stopping power than electric brakes, electric brakes are more responsive, so what an EOH actuator does is combine the two, giving you the best possible stopping power. So I always recommend going electric over hydraulic if possible, and for disc brakes you can use the following: -...
