Video Transcript for CIPA Convex Comp II Rearview Boat Mirror Review

Zack: Hey everybody, it's Zack at trailer.com. Today, we're going to be taking a look at Cipa's comp two rearview boat mirror. This is going to come in a really nice white finish. This is going to be a convex mirror that's going to allow us to have a nice wide angle view behind our boat if we're hauling a tuber or some skiers. We've all kind of been there. If you've ever been pulling somebody behind you, you have to do all of these things where you're looking over your shoulder and you're going back and forth the whole time, and that's fine.

You can do that, but it's much safer to have a rear view boat mirror so you can keep your eyes forward, see where you're going, but also keep an eye on the people you're towing. This is going to allow you to have really nice wide angle view. It's a really large size mirror. It gives you some adjustability to allow you to move this around to get a better view. It's constructed of white ABS plastic up here around the housing on the mirror, so it's going to hold up against minor impacts. Then it has a metal bracket down here that attaches to our windshield frame.

Now, this works with half inch up to seven eighths inch on the size of the frame there. You can mount it on top like this, or you can flip it around and that mirror can be down lower, whatever fits your needs. Overall, this is just a really nice size mirror. I like that I can move it around all the way with that ball and socket. Now, it's held in place pretty good down here.

There is a little bit of movement in that ball and socket. Some people have said there's some vibration there, but it's not anything that's too annoying, but we do get that large mirror, so we're 11 inches by four inches. That is still a really nice sized mirror, so we have really good visibility behind us.When it comes to placing it on your windshield, you want to make sure you're not blocking your view forward. It's easy to take on and off. If you need to take it off to put on a cover or anything, you just simply loosen those up and then it comes right off and then you can move it around if you want to.

So, I think it's a pretty simple concept. There's not much to it. This just clamps onto that windshield, so let's just show you how we got this one put in place. To get this installed, the first thing we need to do is back these screws out a little bit so we can get this slid over our frame, and then you need to decide, do you want it to be mounted low below the windshield like that or do you want it to be above So I'm going to go with mine being above. Now, the one thing with that is the logo will be upside down, but I wanted up here just to give me a little bit better angle at viewing behind us. The one thing with this one is you want to make sure that you're not putting it on if you have any snaps that go with like the cover or the canopy that comes over to the driver's seat. You can just get this tightened down, get a nice snug fit. One thing to be mindful of is you want to try to avoid the snaps that go around your frame if you have those, the ones that are for boat covers, or if you have the canopy or awning that comes over your driver's seat. Once you get those nice and snug, we get started adjusting our mirror to get a better view. So, we'll take a Phillips screwdriver. We'll loosen that up a little bit. We'll get a good spot right there, and then I'll tighten that back up. That's what I like about this one, adjusting it some of the other ones have the knobs that you can tighten it, but I think that this gives us a little bit tighter fit than some of the other ones, and then we can spin this around and then we still have that adjustability there to get the angle we're looking for. See, we've got a little bit of play in there, so we'll get this tightened down a little bit more. You can see, once I get that tightened down, there's a little bit of movement in there, but not a lot. I can still make my adjustments here to get a better view. I think this is going to be a really nice setup for us, but once you get that on there, I think the installation is something you're going to do once. You maybe take it off at the end of the season if you want to get your boat covered up. You could still throw one of the more loose style covers over this and keep it on for a season, but I think this is going to be really useful. I like this style a little bit better than some of the other ones. Getting a screwdriver out to make those adjustments would maybe be annoying, but I think once you get it set to where you like it, this gives you enough adjustment to get the angle that you're looking for. So I think it's going to be a really good way to keep your eyes forward and also keep you an eye on your skiers at the same time, but that's going to do it for a look at the Cipa comp two rearview boat mirror.

by:

Good size and it fits nicely in the top trim of my boat’s windshield.
Exactly what I needed .

by:

Love the mirror. Gives me the wide rear view necessary boating in the busy ICW in North Carolina. I highly recommend it.

by:

as explained

by:

Perfect fit, perfect size just what I was looking for a white mirror to match easy to install, now I could see who's behind me on the lake..

by:

Great mirror. only issue is the plastic grip fittings used to tighten/loosen the screws failed & I needed to replace them with regular stainless steel phillips screws.

by:

I decided on this boat mirror as it has a nice windshield support mount and modern stylish appearance. It sits lower than most and provides a wide panoramic view of both inside the boat passengers and persons in tow. Added bonus is watching your boat wake in a no wake zone.

by:

Mounted to top of boat windshield frame tightly without damage. Allows me to pull skiers without a spotter in my state. Can see outside the wake both sides with this mirror. Removal is easy with thumb screws no tools needed. Stores easily in glove box until next time.

by:

We haven’t had a chance to use it yet, but it looks well made and is as described.

by:

Great Mirror for the money. I have used it for a year and it stays on the boat well and hasn't gotten scratched. I would buy it again!

by:

Excellent product! Good quality! A little vibration in rough water, or due to engine, but we expected some. Solid metal mounting.

by:

Mounted easily. Still holding steady after a year.

by:

Fits nice and looks nice on my Bayliner 195. And the wife likes it. What more could I ask for?

by:

Item was packaged well and arrived quickly. This appears to be a very solidly built product that was offered at a reasonable price. I'm pleased that I chose this among other mirrors on other sites that cost more but appeared to be of a lesser quality.

by:

Excellent product and very easy to install and remove when you need to put on the cover.

by:

I would recommend them to friends and family. We have purchased other product from them before :)

by:

I worked with Alcian to find the mirror I wanted. She was extremely helpful and fun to work with.
I asked a number of questions and she was able to answer them and when she wasn't sure she checked into it and returned my call promptly.
Result; I just received the mirror sooner than expected and it's exactly what I was looking for.
Thank You!

by:

Great product! Easy to install and works great. I feel much safer driving the boat!

by:

I like it so far but I haven't really tried out in the water yet

by:

Excellent customer service, very helpful and knowledgeable. My order was received much faster than I anticipated. I'll purchase from them again.

  • Rear View Mirror That Can Be Mounted to Wooden Stringer Inside Cabin of Vehicle
I have a solution for you, but since this is not the standard method of mounting a rear-view mirror of any type, any solution will potentially require some modification that could potentially void the manufacturer's warranty. I recommend using the CIPA Rearview Mirror # CM33000 which you can use the existing screw hole to attach it to the wood stringer in the method you've mentioned. You will need to find a wood screw the appropriate length to secure this mirror to that stringer, but this...

  • Will CIPA Comp II Rearview Boat Mirror # CM11081 Fit a 5/16 Inch Thick Windshield
CIPA Comp II Rearview Boat Mirror # CM11081 is meant to mount to the windshield frame and not the actual glass or plexiglass. Does your windshield have a frame in the location you want to mount the mirror? If so, and it is 1/2" to 7/8" thick in that location then this mirror will work. Otherwise what I would do is use a 1/4 inch thick piece of wood or plastic and attach it to the mirror to close the gap some allowing the mirror to clamp on.

  • Can I Attach The CIPA Comp II # CM11081 Mirror To A Rowboat
Yes, you could absolutely attach the mirror # CM11081 to a rowboat. You could attach is to pretty much anything provided it has a 1/2" or 7/8" frame to attach to. It is designed to attach to the top of a windshield, to give you a rear view at around eye height. I am not sure how your boat is set up, but if the frame of the boat is the proper thickness I imagine you could attach the mirror easily.

  • What Size Frame Does CIPA Comp II Rearview Boat Mirror # CM11081 Fit
I spoke to my contact at CIPA and he said the Comp II Rearview Boat Mirror # CM11081 has an aluminum bracket that accommodates round or square windshield frames measuring from 1/2 inch to 7/8 of an inch. If that size is not an option for you, you may be interested in our Suction Cup Rearview Boat Mirror, # CM11050. This mirror does not require a specific size to fit and can be mounted anywhere on your boat that has a smooth, clean surface.

The CIPA Comp II Rearview Boat Mirror, part # CM11081 is designed for mounting on windshields but you may be able to attach it to the Electronics box you said you have on your boat. You may have to modify the mount to be able to install it in your boat so please be aware that any modification will void the warranty of the mirror.
