Adding Electric over Hydraulic Brakes to Boat Trailer

Question:

I believe the trailer is an easy loader, but decals are work off. I want to convert the brakes from shoes to disk pads. Double axle with brakes only on one axle. The boat is a Bayliner Trophy AQ225 with Chevy 305 V8. I estimating 4500 lbs total weight for boat, trailer, and engine. The boat is a Coast Guard Auxiliary patrol facility so the weight is a little high due to gear.

The best system we have for your situation would be a disc brake kit with an electric over hydraulic actuator, like the Cargo Towing Solutions HydraStar Electric-Hydraulic Actuator w/ Line Kit for Disc Brakes, # CAR-HBA16-2. To install this system you would need a disc brake kit. To determine the correct kit your trailer bearings and hub pattern will need to be known. I would be glad to help put together a system for you if you can send me some information.

First you will need to determine what spindle you have on your trailer so that you can match the correct rotor/hubs to fit them. You will need to pull the hubs off of your trailer and get the bearing numbers (inner and outer). I have included a picture that shows the location of the bearing numbers. Next you will need to know is the bolt pattern of your hubs. This is so you get a hub that is compatible with your wheels. I attached an FAQ article on determining bolt pattern.

Check out the help article I attached that covers everything needed to add disc brakes to a trailer as well.
