Question:

I bought a used Sport Trail 23foot tandem trailer with torque axles, 3500 lbs each, and no breaks. The boat is 3500 lbs empty and no more than 4500 lbs fueled and loaded. Salt and fresh water exposure. I want to add electric brakes, quality, and economical. What is your advice? I have included pictures of the axle. I also need to replace the electrical wiring with a high-quality harness my truck has a factory brake controller what do you recommend

With your trailer being in an environment where it is exposed to both salt water and fresh water I would highly recommend going with a disc brake setup. There are much fewer components on the brakes to become damaged from the elements with disc brakes. You will need 4 of the DeeMaxx Disc Brake Assemblies # DE89YR with a Hydrastar Electric-Hydraulic Actuator w/ Line Kit # CAR-HBA16-2. You will most likely need a Adapter Module # HBA-CAM for your factory brake controller but be sure to check the chart on the product page to see compatible trucks. Finally a Wiring Kit # HS381-9000 is needed to wire in the electrical with the actuator along with your current trailer light wiring to give you a 7-way connector.

If you prefer to just stay with standard electric brakes you will need 2 of the Electric Brake Kits # AKEBRK-35-SA and 4 of the Hub/Drums # AKHD-545-35-G-EZ-K. You will then need a Junction Box # 3430001-JBK, 7-Way Cord # H20044 and Breakaway Kit # 3802308. You will also need some Wire # 10-1-1 which we sell by the foot to run from the junction box to the brake assemblies. Be sure to use Heat Shrink Butt Connectors # DW05745-5 on any of the wiring which is going to be submerged with the trailer.
