When you apply the brakes in your tow vehicle, deceleration occurs and momentum pushes your trailer toward the rear of your vehicle. With surge brake systems, the actuator is triggered as your trailer moves forward while the tow vehicle slows. The actuator telescopes, applying force to its master cylinder, which in turn supplies the necessary hydraulic pressure to engage the trailer's brakes.

They work great and still look good. l would recommend this product to everyone ????

by:

The unit works good. Was easy to install and was direct fit to replace my old one. My only problem is the multi fit. It does not fit 2” ball like stated in the description. I have tried several balls and have only found 1 out of 7 that would fit.

Quick Shipping, great customer service and fair pricing.

  • Does My 1998 Eagle Boat Trailer With Tandem Axles Have Hydraulic or Electric Trailer Brakes?
It sounds like you have coupler like the Dexter Zinc-Plated Brake Actuator # T43397007K and hydraulic surge brakes on your 1998 Eagle boat trailer. This particular coupler is specific to drum brakes but there are similar units for disc brakes Item # T47457007K. The 4-Way Wiring # HM48138 on your trailer will only control the lighting for the tail lights and running lights on the trailer. If you are needing replacement parts please send me images of what you have on your trailer along...

  • Replacement Dexter Axle Disc Brake Actuator for Tandem 3.5K Axle Trailer
Thanks for the information, Sherman! It looks like you're needing the Dexter Axle Model 60 ZX7000 Multi-Fit Actuator for Disc Brakes which comes with no lockout as part # T47457007K as well as with an electric lockout as part # T47457207K. These fit a 3" wide trailer tongue and install with 2 bolts spaced 3" apart on center so either one will fit perfectly with your trailer.

  • Is There a Brake System For a 3,500LB Axle Which Will Allow For 10 Wheels?
You would have to convert to Disc Brakes # KOD87FR to fit a 10" wheel on your 3,500lb axle. This hub uses the common 5 on 4-1/2" bolt pattern. These are Dacromet coated which is almost as good as a galvanized coating but is definitely better than just paint. Depending on our snowmobile trailer you would need either a surge style disc brake Actuator # T47457007K or a electric over hydraulic Actuator # CAR-HBA16-2.

  • Parts Needed to Convert Trailer to Surge Disc with Welded on Atwood Actuator and 3,500 lb Axles
Since your current Atwood surge drum actuator is welded to your trailer frame what you'll need to do is take the trailer to a welder who can cut the welds and remove what you have now and in place install a weld on coupler designed for disc brakes like the part # DX63FR. Since the diameter of your brake drum is 10 inch that means you have a 3,500 lb trailer axle so for a disc brake kit to replace that you'd just need the # K2R35DKG.

  • How to Bleed Brakes With Dexter Zinc-Plated Brake Actuator
The Dexter Zinc-Plated Brake Actuator # T47457007K does not have an access hole to insert a screwdriver to bleed the master cylinder. You will have to use the old method with a 2x4 and the safety chains. While the trailer is disconnected from the vehicle, hook the trailer safety chains together to form a loop centered below the coupler. Place a sturdy board, like a 2x4, through the safety chain loop. The safety chain loop will help give you the leverage you need to collapse the actuator....

  • Can Dexter Actuator # T47457007K Replace Titan Model 60
Yes, the Dexter Brake Actuator part # T47457007K that you referenced is a replacement for your Titan Model 60 actuator.

  • Can I Use The Same Surge Actuator When Switching From Drum to Disc Brakes On Boat Trailer?
Disc brakes require a higher pressure than drum brakes and will require you to use a Surge Actuator # T47457007K designed for disc brakes. You will also want to use a Reverse Lockout # T4748800 if you do not already have one on your trailer. This will prevent the brakes from activating when driving in reverse. Drum brakes had the option of free backing preventing them from activating in reverse which is not an option like on disc brakes. If you can tell me what brakes and axle your trailer...

  • What Does "No Lockout" Mean?
"No Lockout" means that this particular actuator # T47457007K does not have a built-in reverse lockout. Meaning that driving the trailer in reverse will actuate the brakes. You can add a reverse lockout to the actuator by adding a Reverse Lockout Solenoid # T4748800. Alternatively, you could also use free backing brakes such as part # AKFBBRK-35-D. The free backing design allows for backing up without engaging the trailer brakes.

  • Is There an Actuator For 2 Inch Wide Channel/Frame
Trailer surge brake actuators aren't something that are made for 2 inch channels/frames, I'm sorry to say. So what you would have to do is have spacers welded on your frame to widen it to use an actuator for a 3 inch tongue like the Dexter Zinc-Plated Brake Actuator - Disc # T47457007K or Drum # T43397007K. I know it's not the easiest solution in the world but for that size frame it's really the only available option.

  • Parts Needed To Convert Titan Model 60 Drum Brake Actuator To Work On Disc Brakes
To convert your Titan Zinc-Plated Brake Actuator - Drum # T43397007K to Disc # T47457007K you will need to change out the Master Cylinder Assembly # T4820000. If you do not already have a Reverse Lockout Solenoid # T4748800 you will want to add that as well since there are no free backing disc trailer brakes. A Solenoid Shield # T4835800183 will protect the solenoid if you do not have one. Using a disc brake kit like the Kodiak # K2R35S will reduce rusting as the rotors and calipers...

  • Disc Brake Replacement for Atwood Drum Brake Actuator 82543
The Atwood Drum Brake Actuator 82543 is discontinued and no longer avavailbe. If you want to switch to disc brakes you will need a complete new actuator, you can't just swap out internal parts even if they were avavailbe (they are not). For replacement, I recommend the Titan Zinc-Plated Brake Actuator part # T47457007K which fits the same size frame, hitch ball, and has a 7,000 lb weight capacity.
