When you apply the brakes in your tow vehicle, deceleration occurs and momentum pushes your trailer toward the rear of your vehicle. With surge brake systems, the actuator is triggered as your trailer moves forward while the tow vehicle slows. The actuator telescopes, applying force to its master cylinder, which in turn supplies the necessary hydraulic pressure to engage the trailer's brakes.

Original brake actuator was welded to the trailer tongue. I had to cut it back and weld a new piece of 3x3 tube steel and extend it out enough to install the new actuator. It lengthened the trailer by about a foot but worked out pretty well. The new one works great.

by:

Works as it should. If I had it to do over I would go with electric over hydraulic

by:

This an almost perfect replacement for the original. I had to reroute the brake fluid line to met trailer line. Just got back from the lake a trip that had lots of mountains and we were impressed with how smoothly it worked.

by:

I have been looking to replacement for my Ezloader trailer. It was originally a TDE hitch but they don't exist. I had mistakenly measured my frame as 3 inch, but it was 3 1/4" inside. To make this work I did some sawing, welding, drilling and painting but it works better than original.

by:

Anna was great at helping me confirm what I needed to order. I installed the Kodiak 10” disc brake kit, new lines and Dexter actuator with no trouble. I got rid of my rusty drum brakes that were a hassle to clean and maintain in salt water. Shipping was fast and my order was complete. I’d definitely recommend etrailer.com to friends!!

by:

solid actuator for a fair price. The auto latch feature is a nice feature.

YOU TOLD ME IT WOULD REPLACE A TIE DOWN TYPE TRAILER HITCH. IT DOES NOT.

This coupler would be a great replacement as long as your Tie Down fit on a 3 inch wide tongue with bolt holes that are 3 inches center to center. I will have our Customer Service team reach out to you.

by:

Very happy and it performs as expected. Using it with new disc braking system.
Getting used to putting the pin in before going in reverse, of course it can also be wired electronically, but haven't looked into that quite yet...

by:

I dove into this job of replacing my entire rusted out disc brake system on my double axle boat trailer having never done it before. Between the variety of part choices and accurate descriptions coupled with excellent phone service and on site videos, I was able to rebuild my trailer brakes system and suspension in total. I compared prices with the trailer manufacturer and found that etrailer either beat the price or matched it but I chose to give my business to etrailer because of the service! I do recommend this company and will use etrailer.com again anytime!

by:

I installed this as part of a disk brake retrofit to a tandem axle boat trailer that didn’t come with brakes. It was an easy swap from my factory coupler and connected fine to the flexible brake line kit. How to bleed the brakes wasn’t obvious from the instructions and YouTube videos are mostly out of date, but all it took was a long handled flat screwdriver to action the pump and apply pressure. The drop and go system is easy to use. I wish this model had a manual reverse solenoid lockout but the electric lockout has been working fine.

by:

The hitch is great. Disc brakes vs the drums I had before make noticeably more stopping power. My one regret is that while there is a backing lockout of the surge brake via a solenoid valve, for high mountain trailering, the surge brake stays applied when you’re descending in low gear. I smoked my brakes coming down from 5,500 ft last week, expelling a decent amount of high temp red bearing grease. I guess if steep mountain roads are the norm, maybe an electric brake overhaul would have been better.

by:

I changed the brakes on my 1995 boat trailer from drum to disc. I was able to figure out what to order on the etrailer web site. The whole project was relatively easy. I just had to remove the old parts and bolt on the new ones. The new trailer hitch actuator is much easier to used than my old one.

by:

The unit is easy to install and is up and running in minutes.

by:

Actuator is quality product. I was replacing a Tie Down 70E actuator that was 10 years old ( master cylinder and backup solenoid failed due to rust sediment buildup ?)
Be aware that the actuator does not come with mounting hardware so save yours from old unit
, also does not come with instructions-download from web.
The only noticeable difference between the newer and the old unit was the backup sensitivity.
The old unit needed the solenoid energized with just the trailer -the new unit didn’t need the solenoid energized with trailer and boat unless you were going up an incline(even with adjustment of the bolts joining the two pieces)
Overall very satisfied-as a side note both Tie Down and Titan were bought by Dexter Axle

by:

I have been ordering from etrailer.com for years and have not been disappointed. Their prices are great, they communicate the order status very well, and ship the products quickly.
I have been having ongoing issues with my trailer brake pressure not relieving, thus applying the brakes continuously. This order was for a new actuator which I believe will correct the problem. I just installed the actuator and it fit as expected.

by:

Super fast shipping & part was easy to install!

by:

Great selection of products with detailed product descriptions and very fast delivery. The information on the site was very helpful in identifying the replacement brake actuator that I needed for my 17 year old trailer. Installed in 20 minutes!

by:

Works great! I wish I would have talked to a representative first. Bolt pattern didn’t match up with the old actuator, so I had to drill new holes. With my neighbors help got ur done in a couple hours. My fault. Thanks to etrailer for quick delivery as I needed to pull my boat out of the slip I was renting.

by:

Great product. I do wish is had a way to put a lock on it while attached to the tow vehicle.

by:

BEST CUSTOMER SERVICE AND SHIPPING i HAVE EVER DELT WITH! EVERYONE THERE IS FANTASTIC!!! PARTS ARE GREAT TOO, NEVER HAD A PROBLEM WITH ANY!!! A+++++++++++++++

by:

Excellent product with good installation instructions

by:

  • Difference Between Hydraulic Brake Coupler with Lockout and Without Lockout
What a lockout on a hydraulic brake coupler does is prevent the brakes from applying when you back the trailer. An electric lock out is tied into the reverse lamp circuit on the vehicle so that when the vehicle is shifted into reverse the solenoid in the coupler is activated which prevents the trailer brakes from applying. If your boat trailer had free-backing brakes, you won't need a lockout because after being pushed a foot or so the brake assemblies disengage. For a 7500 lb hydraulic...

  • What to do Now That Atwood Replacement Master Cylinder 85739 is no Longer Available
You're certainly not the first person to ask about the Atwood 85739 master cylinder but those replacement parts are simply no longer available which means your best option truly is to replace your actuator. I completely understand this isn't the news you were seeking but it truly is the best option at this point. An outstanding manufacturer of actuators is Titan and they have a number of possibilities; I recommend checking out the Dexter DX7.5 Drop-N-Go Brake Actuator - Disc Brakes -...

  • Recommended Actuator Upgrade for a Tie Down 70LP Actuator
For your Tie Down 70LP brake actuator we do have a couple of awesome upgrade options depending on your setup. If you have drum brakes then you'll want the Dexter DX7.5 Drop-N-Go Brake Actuator # 099-175-00, and if you have disc brakes then you'll want the Dexter DX7.5 Drop-N-Go Brake Actuator # 099-175-20. Both of these actuators has a 7.5K capacity, easily bolt on for install, and are made in the USA.

I recommend replacing your Tie Down Engineering LP 7000 brake actuator with either the Dexter DX7.5 Drop-N-Go Brake Actuator for Disc # 099-175-20 or Drum # 099-175-00 brakes. This actuator has the same capacity at 7,500lbs and uses a 2" hitch ball.

  • Solution for Needing Replacement Tie Down LP70 Actuator
While we don't have replacement parts for a Model LP70 actuator, we do have a great replacement solutions for it. Like the 70LP, these actuators are a fit for a 2" hitch ball, but they just have a slightly larger capacity at 7,500 lbs. You didn't mention whether you had drum or disc brakes so I'll give the options for both Disc Brakes: Dexter DX7.5 Drop-N-Go Brake Actuator - Disc Brakes # 099-175-20

  • Replacement For TDE-LP750 Trailer Actuator
We can get you a good replacement, though there is actually no longer a TDE brand. But that actuator is simply a bolt-on, 7,500 lb actuator that couples to a 2" hitch ball, and per the owner's manual does not have a lockout (so it is for free-backing brakes). The replacement you can use is from Dexter, and the right one will depend on if you have drum brakes or disc brakes: - Drum: Dexter DX7.5 Drop-N-Go Brake Actuator # 099-175-00 - Disc: Dexter DX7.5 Drop-N-Go Brake Actuator # 099-175-20

I would be happy to make a recommendation for a replacement brake actuator for your 2006 Ranger Trailer Trailer, but I will need to know if your trailer has hydraulic disc or drum brakes. If your trailer has hydraulic disc brakes the Dexter DX7.5 Drop-N-Go Brake Actuator - Disc Brakes - 2" Ball - Zinc Plated - 7,500 lbs # 099-175-20 is a great choice that has is zinc plated for superior corrosion resistance, and will bolt on to trailer tongues that are 3" wide. • Replacement Solution for Atwood 82542 Actuator on Boat Trailer
Atwood stopped making actuators a while back which is why you aren't able to find a replacement or any replacement parts. So for a solution to replace what you have the Dexter DX7.5 part # 099-175-00 would be a great solution if you have drum brakes or the part # 099-175-20 for disc brakes. I really like how easy the coupler of these actuators work as basically you can just drop them onto the ball and they latch themselves.

  • Surge Brake Actuator Recommendation for Uhaul Tow Dolly Replacement
If the tow dolly has disc brakes the Dexter DX7.5 part # 099-175-20 would be a really solid option that works great and is very reliable. Most dollies have disc brakes so this most likely is the one to use but if for some reason it had drum brakes we have this in a drum version with the part # 099-175-00. There isn't a super simple bolt-right-up actuator solution out there but this would be as close to that as possible and would work great so I'd recommend if for your Doug.

  • 2005 Ranger Trail Boat Trailer Replacement Hydraulic Brake Coupler
Was there any manufacturer info on the existing coupler? Any part numbers? Unfortunately, there isn't an existing database that allows me to look up which hydraulic coupler was originally used on your 2005 Ranger Trail boat trailer. This being said, the Dexter Axle DX7.5 Drop-N-Go actuator would work well if you have a 3 inch wide pole tongue and need a coupler compatible with a 2 inch ball. For disc brakes, use the # 099-175-20, or # 099-175-00 for drum brakes.

  • Replacement 7,000 lb Surge Brake Actuator for Drum or Disc Brakes
We definitely have surge brake actuators that can work, but the ones we carry are mounted on top of your trailer's channel tongue and you will need to drill new holes in order to mount them. Additionally, please note that these actuators are each designed to fit 3" wide channel tongues, so to ensure the proper fit you are going to want to measure your trailer tongue. Dexter actuators are premium quality which is why I highly recommend them, and the correct 7,000 lb actuator that works...

I spoke with my contact at Fulton and they told me that the A50 coupler was for a surge brake 5,000 lb system and is no longer available. • Is a 7-Way Round Connector Used to Activate Surge Brakes on Boat Trailer
The surge brakes on your boat trailer operate completely independent from the trailer wiring/connector so there isn't a pin on the 7-way that activates the surge brakes. The wiring that your mechanic was speaking of is that used for an actuator with a reverse lockout solenoid, like part # 099-175-20. In this case you would need to run a wire from the reverse light circuit to the solenoid so that you can reverse your trailer without the actuator activating the brakes of the trailer.
