When you apply the brakes in your tow vehicle, deceleration occurs and momentum pushes your trailer toward the rear of your vehicle. With surge brake systems, the actuator is triggered as your trailer moves forward while the tow vehicle slows. The actuator telescopes, applying force to its master cylinder, which in turn supplies the necessary hydraulic pressure to engage the trailer's brakes.

Updating my old surge brake coupler, I really like this Dexter DX7.5L A-60 Brake Actuator w Electric Lockout - Bolt On - Disc - 2" Ball - Zinc - 7.5K fits 3”x4”trailer tongue, it was easy to install, I did have to drill new holes, I just wish the manufacturer would have included the bolts and the information on how much to torque the bolts to, it’s about “2 drop from my old coupler. etrailer was super fast with shipping !

by:

Have not use the Actuator yet. However it came in a oversize box. No packing material to protect it. It was damaged when I opened the box. Scratches and damage cable

I did right a way and still have not heard back. I emailed Noah today asking about the status no reply, now Im on a 9min hold to try and talk with someone about my replacement past. The wrong part looks like a good part if it fit my trailer.

The part was exactly what I needed. I gave 1 less star because the original item I requested was out of stock. Luckily I noticed that on the order status page and switched it to another item. This caused a significant delay in me receiving the part.

  • Replacement Surge Actuator for Reliable ACT 7.5K Actuator
Best solution we have would be the Dexter DX7.5L A-60 Brake Actuator w Electric Lockout - Bolt On - Disc # DX29FR which will fit over the 3 inch by 5 inch frame channel you have. This is a very similar design to what you have now and has the same weight capacity so it would work well. This is the disc brake version so if you have drum brakes instead you'd want the part # DX27FR.

  • Replacemnet Surge Brake Actuator For a Tie Down Engineering LP7000
We have the Dexter DX7.5L A-60 Brake Actuator w Electric Lockout # DX29FR for disc brakes and the Dexter DX7.5L A-60 Brake Actuator # DX27FR for drum brakes. These will have similar bolt patterns as the Tie Down Engineering LP7000 actuators we have have seen in the past. They are designed to fit a 3" wide by 4" tall trailer tongue. If you have a different size trailer tongue please let me know so I can recommend a better option since I have seen this particular actuator mounted differently.

  • What Size and Grade Mounting Hardware for the Dexter DX7.5L A-60 Brake Actuator w Electric Lockout
The Dexter DX7.5L A-60 Brake Actuator w Electric Lockout part # DX29FR for disc brakes and part # DX27FR for drum brakes use 1/2" diameter mounting hardware. We have used both grade 5 and grade 8 bolts when doing installations of them but the grade 5 are sufficient. There is very little force actually applied to the bolts other than side pull.

The Lockout Key # DX94FR can be placed in the actuator groove to prevent it from being able to cycle when you need to lockout the actuator. • Replacement For TDE LP75 Disc Brake Actuator
We can get you a replacement for your TDE LP75 disc brake actuator; that's a 7,500 lb actuator that accepts a 2" hitch ball, and the correct option will depend on if your trailer tongue is 3" wide x 4" tall or 3" wide x 5" tall: - 3" x 4": Dexter DX7.5L A-60 Brake Actuator # DX29FR - 3" x 5": Dexter DX7.5L A-60 Brake Actuator # DX56FR As for your second question, both do have the electric lockout, as there isn't an option for the old school type you were referencing.

  • What Kind Of Plug Do I Need In Order To Use The DX29FR Surge Brake Actuator
The Dexter Surge Brake Actuator # DX29FR features an electric lockout. The surge brake actuator itself does not need to be plugged in to anything for it to work. The electric lockout does need to be wired if you want to be able to back up without locking up the brakes. The blue wire goes to your vehicles reverse light circuit, the white wire is a ground. This allows you to back the trailer up without actuating the brakes. Generally trailers with a surge brake actuator and electric lockout...

  • Troubleshooting Reverse Lockout Solenoid Not Working on Dexter DX7.5L A-60 Brake Actuator
There are only 3 real possibilities for your lockout failing to work properly on the # DX29FR. The first would be the power. Since it sounds like you are getting 12V power to the solenoid it doesn't sound like this is the issue. The second would be the ground. Make sure your ground connection is secure on a clean, bare-metal surface. Also, the wires are interchangeable so it doesn't matter which is the power and which is the ground. If these both check out it is likely a bad solenoid valve....

  • Is Dexter DX7.5L DX29FR Designed To Mount Inside Of 3" x 4" Trailer Tongue?
Yep! The Dexter DX7.5L # DX29FR is indeed designed to fit inside a 3" x 4" tongue as long as you have disc brakes on your trailer, though it is a bit of a different design than your old TDE LP7000. I included a video where Ryan installs it like that. If you can modify your tongue to make this work, Great! If you're not comfortable with making it work, then a coupler that bolts over your tongue like the # 099-175-20 is going to be a better option due to being a bit easier to install.

  • Options For Connecting Safety Cables When Using The Dexter DX29FR Actuator
Well Brent that is certainly a valid concern, because the Dexter DX7.5L A-60 Brake Actuator # DX29FR does not have any kind of built in safety cable connections. In fact very few of the surge brake actuators that we carry will have cable connections. In most cases the safety cable connection will be part of the trailer tongue itself and not part of the brake actuator (example pictured below). As far as getting you a cable connection point, it could be as simple as putting a hole a bit...
