Determining the Bolt Pattern

The first number in the bolt pattern is the number of bolt holes. The second number denotes the diameter, in inches, of the circle on which the bolt holes sit.

Bolt Pattern - Even

On wheels with an even number of bolt holes, measure from the center of one bolt hole to the center of the hole directly across from it. (Example: 8 on 6-1/2 means 8 bolt holes with 6-1/2" from the center of one hole to the center of another on the opposite side.)

Bolt Pattern - Odd

To determine the bolt-circle diameter on wheels with an odd number of bolt holes, measure from the center of any bolt hole to the point halfway between the two bolt holes directly across from the first. (Example: 5 on 4-1/2 means 5 bolt holes with 4-1/2" measured to a point halfway between the opposite bolt holes.)

Bolt Pattern - Side

Measuring the distance (D) from the center of one bolt hole on the wheel to the center of a bolt hole right next to it can also help to determine the bolt pattern.

  • If D = 2-5/8", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 4-1/2"
  • If D = 2-3/4", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 4-3/4"
  • If D = 3", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 5"
  • If D = 3-1/4", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 5-1/2"

I ordered a trailer hub and when it arrived the one in the box was not what the label had on the outside of the box. It was the wrong part -in the correct box. I contacted etrailer to let them know what happened and they very quickly responded and asked for measurements and pictures. I took a few pictures with the tape measure and sure enough, the part somehow got put in the wrong box. The parts I got was brand new and had all the pieces, it was just the wrong size. etrailer quickly sent out a replacement hub and I got it today. The part is now correct. It is new and in new condition with all the pieces as described. I could not be more happy on how well the customer service was on this issue. In the future I will certainly buy from etrailer again. Thanks everyone for the great service.

I have had the hub on my trailer for a year now and have pulled that trailer several thousand miles. I have had no problems at all with the new hub I got from etrailer. Good product and a great price with the best customer service.

by:

Shipping was fast, and the hubs were easy to install. They were a no brainer with the bearings pregreased and installed with new races and back seal. Great product.

by:

Amazing! Ordered 12/16/23, UPS delivered 12/20/23! Perfect match to my axles. Hubs were packed with grease and the hubs were sealed with plastic inserts that were press fit into the each side of the hub to keep debris out, all encapsulated in plastic bag. No special prep to the hubs, just remove from packaging and install. Hubs included lug nuts and 2 caps, one cap with rubber bladder to allow for pressure expansion from thermal changes, and one solid cap.

by:

quick service my order was shipped the same day ordered. Looks like high quality parts.

by:

So far so good, even with the extra stress of the wide wheels. I even bought an extra hub to keep in the tool box for a road side repair.

Still working great. It has been across several states, rough highways and dirt roads. Can’t complain.

by:

Perfect fit and fully loaded just install and add little grease

by:

Perfect fit for my 5x12 trailer! The ordering and shipping process was great. Preston was great in matching my old hubs to the new ones. This was my first hub replacement job and I was done in an hour.
Will be a repeat customer!!!!

by:

William B did a real good job helping me thank you

by:

Product easy to install only thing wrong they don’t send you a new castle nut or cotter pin. So don’t throw the old ones out first set of bearings I ever got without new ones with it

by:

Worked perfect for what I needed, overall great experience

by:

I had an extremely hard setup and the customer service was great. However, the outer bearing and race were wrong. Sadly, the only info I had was for the outer bearing and race. Kudos for guessing the correct inner and even the grease seal size. Doesn't really count though as the the info I was able to provide missed the mark badly. Like 1/4" badly.

I am wondering if the wrong assembly was sent. Are you able to tell me color the dot is on the hub?

by:

Super fast shipping!!

by:

Easy install

by:

I bought these as spares to carry on trips. After having a bearing failure while towing my race car I became a big believer in having spares. I now replace bearings/races every other year as preventive maintenance even if they look ok. Bearings are all made in China so I think quality varies, regular maintenance is a must. The price is awesome compared to the local trailer dealer for the same product. etrailer is awesome great prices and fast shipping.

by:

I was sent a 5 on 4 3/4 hub in a 5 on 5.0 box. I found this after spending 2 hours turning the spindle they sent on a lathe to match what was supposed to be sent. Next time I will machine my own parts.

After many thousands of miles, still a good trouble free product. It makes traveling worry free.

by:

The part, (5 on 5" hubs), worked perfectly, and were priced well and delivered on time. The only down side to my order is that we first accidentally ordered a complete axle assembly, hub-to-hub with 5 on 4.5" bolt pattern instead of the aforementioned 5 on 5". We called to get the right hubs sent and thought we could return the unused 5 on 4.5" hubs. Since we packed the bearings and mounted the hubs on the axle, we were told they were now used and could not be returned. They had not made one revolution on the spindle or borne any weight/load. I now have two small boat anchors. I'm very disappointed that we could not clean all the parts and return them. All of this occurred while stranded 250 miles from home while towing a tractor on our flatbed trailer. The new axle and hubs were installed while parked on a gravel road and we're traveling home as I write this. Again, the parts are working well, but the customer service part of the deal could have been better by allowing a return of the hubs we could not use.

by:

Excellent value! I can't say enough good things about eTrailer. Awesome and helpful website, great products, best prices, excellent customer service.

This product allowed me to replace the bad bearings on my trailer in about a half hour. No cleaning old grease out of hubs, no trying to get old races out, and all for the price other places will charge for bearings alone!

I had a slightly rare 5 on 5 bolt pattern, which was impossible to find in local stores. No problem at eTrailer! They always have a great selection and get it to me very quickly. I've finally learned not to waste my time shopping around and to just come here first!

by:

I ordered a 5 on 5 hub back in August. I got the hub. You sent me a 5 on 4.75. Great customer service...NOT!

by:

I have received all four hubs, it was the exact match for our application. Everything came as expected. Service is prompt, nice folks to deal with even on the phone.
I am a repeat customer.
I gave it 5 star, however if I had done a bit more research on the website for whole package with EZ grease part and new axle nut and hardware it would have been great but its my fault I got exactly what I ordered according to the part numbers.
I am pleased with etrailer.

by:

Received 5 on 5 hub today and it fit perfectly. I first ordered a 5 on 4 3/4 hub and it was wrong. I had measured the bolt pattern across the hub from center to center stud for 3500 lb axle. That is the way we did it back in the day 30 years ago. Well after talking to Jamie at etrailer she explained I was wrong and had me measure stud to stud beside each other also and explained I needed 5 0n 5.She was very professional and very detailed and had me measure several times to make sure I received the right hub. Well she was right and it fit perfect. I will be buying all my trailer parts from etrailer from here on. Jamie your the the best. Its hard to find people who care or even try to help with anything anymore but Jamie acted like she had all day to help me. Thanks again

We have replacement hubs for trailers that have the 5 on 5 inch bolt pattern you have but they'll need to be 3,500 lb axle assemblies as that's only capacity we have that bolt pattern in. For a hub drum you'd want the # AKHD-550-35-EZ-K or for an idler part # AKIHUB-550-35-K. To verify your axle capacity you can check the axle for a plate with ID info and the capacity should be listed there. Or you can measure diameter of axle and if it's 2-3/8 that would indicate it's 2,500 as well.

First things first; you can determine the specs on your current axle by checking for a sticker or plate attached to the axle itself (you'll usually find it close to the center of the axle).
