  • How to Determine Correct Replacement Trailer Hub and Spindle
We can get your trailer rolling again, and to get the correct replacement hub and spindle, you will just need to take a look at a couple things and get some measurements. You will need to take apart your current hub assembly and look at the bearings themselves; wipe away the grease and you should be able to see the part number stamped directly on them. If you are unable to find them, you need to use digital caliper and measure your spindle to the thousandths of an inch where the bearings...

  • How to Find Replacement Bearing Info For Older Trailer
The best way to find the correct replacement bearings is to get the numbers stamped onto the metal of the inner and outer bearings that are currently on the trailer. With those you will be able to find the correct replacement bearings, races, and seals. Another option is to measure the spindle of your trailer with a micrometer to get the diameter of it where the seal, inner, and outer bearings ride. See picture.I have included a link to a video on inspecting trailer bearings that should...

  • Grease Coming Out of EZ Lube Trailer Spindle
There are only 3 ways that grease will come out on an EZ Lube axle. 1) You pump it in and it oozes out of the hole in the shaft to lubricate the bearings (normal operation). But you wouldn't see it because the hub/drum would be installed 2) It comes out the back of the hub meaning you blew a seal (seal needs to be replaced, use double lip seals) 3) It comes out where you are pumping it in because the hub/drum is full (if you see new grease then you are good to go) When adding grease...

  • Which is Better an EZ Lube Spindle or a Bearing Buddy Setup
An EZ lube spindle will be better because it allows you to insert grease from inside the spindle where the bearings are and push out the old grease whereas with a Bearing Buddy you basically just get to push grease through the front of the hub. I attached a link to a page that has all of the EZ lube spindles we carry. The advantage to a Bearing Buddy would be that it would be much easier to install since they basically just replace the grease cap whereas with a new spindle you have to...

  • How to Pick Out Replacement Axle for Older Trailer
We don't have a way to look up what axle/hubs your trailer needs by the VIN but we can help you determine what you'd need. The first thing you need is the capacity of the axle. You'll also need to know the axle length. I've attached a photo showing where to measure your axle for the correct length. I've also included a link to our axle product listings. Once you know your measurements, you can use the filters on the left side of the page to choose the correct axle. Or, if you'd like, you...

  • Greasing E-Z Lube Spindles on Trailer
It sounds like your you have E-Z Lube spindles on your trailer that feature grease zerk fittings at the ends of the spindle. Adding grease to the spindle and bearings is just a matter of using a grease gun like what it sounds like you have done. The spindle will have a hole in it so that it fills the hub components from the back of the inner bearing with grease as you pump grease into the fitting. You will want pump the grease slowly while occasionally rotating the hub so as to prevent...

  • Is it Normal for Grease to Leak Out of EZ Lube Grease Cap
One of the big issues that EZ lube spindles create is that it's too easy to put too much grease into them which then either causes the seal to blow out or the cap to leak like what you have found. This oftentimes happens after that first trip like what happened to you. I don't actually recommend using the EZ lube fitting to add grease and instead recommend just packing it all by hand and leaving it as-is. In your case I would recommend pulling the hubs off and making sure the seal is in...

  • Will Overheating a Trailer Hub Damage the Spindle
If the spindles were overheated due to a bearing malfunction then you will need to replace them or the axle. The spindles are already heat treated for strength but you will lose that strength if heated beyond a certain point after the fact. If there are any discolorations on the spindle (usually blueish) then that would indicate heat damage. If you can let me know what size axle you have and the shape I would be glad to see about getting you replacement spindles if applicable but most cases...

  • Where To Measure the Axle To Determine the Weight Capacity
In regards to determining axle capacity, the portion of the axle that will be measured is the cross beam, or rather the tube that connects the two sides together. If you were to measure where each bearings ride on the spindle that would then give you a much more exact weight capacity but for a general capacity, the diameter of the axle tube is sufficient. If you did however want to measure the spindle you would need to do so to the thousandth of an inch with a digital caliper. Typical...

  • Troubleshooting Slight Amount of Grease Leaking from E-Z Lube Spindle
Any grease on the back of the wheel could be from the grease working its way out from having slightly too much or it could be from a grease cap or grease seal that is not fitting properly. The grease cap and seal should be keeping any excessive grease off the wheel unless the parts are failing. I recommend pulling the rubber plug to see if there is grease inside and if so just clean the wheel and keep your eye on it for more. If it keeps happening, something is not working correctly...

  • Can Oil Bath Trailer Hub Easily be Converted to Grease
It's totally fine to replace the oil in an oil bath hub with grease without changing anything else. The bearings will be properly lubricated and the seals will work just fine. I actually prefer grease to oil bath hubs mainly because if for some reason the seal of the hub goes out an oil bath hub is immediately done since all of the lubrication drains and by the time you notice the bearings have gotten way too hot, whereas with grease (since it's not a liquid) you can normally get home easily...
