I didn't need the bracket, but the rest is exactly what I needed to replace the winches on a mid-2000s Shorelandr PWC trailer. The handle is slightly different, but the rest of the mechanism matches the original.

Perfect fit. Mounted to top edge of my floating dock to winch our seadoo onto our shoreport.

Just needed a simple way of loading my 80lb portable generator to the bed of my pick up truck.

Easy to set up.

Just got my DL16003 winch, and I've very satisfied. I have a 9 ft plastic bass boat that weighs out over 200 lbs with gear, on an 8 ft tilting utility trailer. My goal was to be able to retrieve the boat from a launch ramp by myself - 63 years old with a bad back.

I had my doubts this 1:1 winch would do it, with no mechanical advantage to speak of. I'm barely able to haul the boat up onto the trailer with a heavy line on the bow. That wasn't going to work in the long run, so I thought I'd give the winch a try. No doubt an 8:1 crank winch would do it, but I'd have to build a raised mount for the handle to swing 360 degrees.

I was able to mount the DL16003 on the trailer bed, it fits snugly against the boat bow when loaded. For a test, I tilted the trailer and slid the boat off the trailer in the driveway, hooked of the winch strap and hauled away on the winch lever. I was able to one-handed drag the boat up the trailer with the winch without strain, so it's a success!

I took the boat out to a local lake and retrieved it no problem. Again, recommended!

Used in an unconventional manner to hang mobile saw carts in my garage. Work great!

by:

The winch on my wave runner trailer was broken and I could not find where to buy parts. I found the DL16003 on the etrailer website. It looked similar to mine. The base bracket on my trailer is built in, but the reel, handle and lock mechinism looked very similar. I took a chance and bought the DL 16003 winch. Etrailers service and quick response was very good, via email I knew the status of my order at all times. The winch came with instructions and explode out view of the parts.
With four wrenches (two 7/16 and two 1/2) I was able to easily remove parts for the new Winch base bracket and install them on my old bracket. The new product appears to be sturdier than the OLD and I expect years of good service.

by:

Received my hand winch exceptionally fast. The quality is excellent. I have a 400 lb. hovercraft and I needed a lightweight winch to winch it onto my trailer. Most importantly, I was not able to use a regular crank winch as the craft arrived at the front of the trailer because of the craft's nose configuration. The ratchet-type winch is the perfect solution for me.

by:

Guess it is a good product but didn't work well for our purpose. We tried using to pull out inflatables onto a dock.

We screwed it to the dock surface. The angle was wrong and the pulling power was very very slow.

Seems it would be better for absolutely straight pulling.

by:

Works as expected. We did not have room for a full 360 crank handle, so this is perfect. It is mounted in a snowmobile trailer to pull in a large fishing sled. Thanks for the great service e-trailer.

by:

This is a well made little winch. The levers are strong enough to engage and disengage the winch. The little hook on the end of the strap is small enough you won't be tempted to overload the 400lb capacity. I'm using it to raise and lower a heavy truck tailgate. Works great and easy to mount.

by:

The correct replacement for a PWC jet dock. About half its functioning life used due to rust in a salt water environment. I usuall replace every few years.

Thank you for your review. I recommend to use the Fulton F2 Fully Enclosed Trailer Winch with Strap and Adjustable Handle part # FW16000101 because of its aluminum casing which provides corrosion resistance.

I've ordered from these guys three times and everything was great each time. UPS messes up by handing off my package to the USPS and that made it take a little longer one time but that is not these guys' fault at all. I live in a small town and UPS only comes a couple times a week.
These guys are great to work with and I will go to them with all my trailer needs!

by:

Shopping experience was very slick. Product arrived ahead of schedule thanks to free shipping upgrade. The winch is working as anticipated. The back and forth stroke instead of circular stroke is just what I needed due to installation location. Trying to engage/disengage the two pawls to release tension is a bit cumbersome, but it does the job.

by:

it was what I ordered and works fine for my older jet ski trailer that does not allow a handle protruding from it.

by:

The hand Winch I ordered was excellent quality. The service was great and unfortunately it did not fit the application I wanted it for so I had to return it. The folks at etrailer was super about returning it.

Works great for PWC trailers

Still working great

by:

Winch is as described. Works properly for my application. Installation and operating instructions are clear and to the point. Delivery as promised.

by:

Awesome simple unit. I am using it on a bunk load on a granite shore line on the St. Lawrence River. It is perfect for my 12 Alumacraft boat. It also keeps my boat high and dry and I can pull the plug. This also allows more boats to be parked at the bigger docks with my boat not taking up dock space.

by:

Product arrived, installed and ready to pull and latch. I was matching the winch with one that was missing pieces. Looks like it'll work, won't use jet ski trailer until probably next year.

by:

A great winch for small boat trailers with limited room for your installation.

by:

Really cool winch. Small but sturdy, nice loop strap.

by:

Great product that I’ve been using for a year now. Exactly replaced my old on Shorelander PWC trailer.

by:

This product is perfect for the application I needed. It didn't have to winch a ton, but I had limited space and was not able to get a 360 degree type winch. The quality seems good and it does the job I need it to do.

by:

This product is a perfect replacement for the Shelby winch on the older jet dock models for personal watercraft

  • Dutton-Lainson Hand Winch # DL16003 How Does It Feed Out with Tension in Line
It would be like operating the winch in reverse except you would have to manipulate the levers with each crank to extend the line out. You'd use the lever to release the tension on the spool by pulling up slightly, then you'd release the feed out lever below the spool so that you could lower the handle feeding it out about 1/4 turn, you'd engage the release lever to the spool so that you could then rotate the crank in the opposite direction to you could "grab" another section of the spool...

  • Recommended Winch For Vertically Lifting Light Loads With Limited Handle Space
The best option we have for you to help lift your laundry rack would be with the Dutton-Lainson Hand Winch part # DL16003 because it has a ratchet handle that does not require full rotations to turn the drum. This winch inclides a strap with a spring-loaded safety hook and a look. I attached a review video for you to check out.

  • Using a Winch to Secure A Spare Tire on a Trailer
A winch could be used to lift your trailer's spare tire up into position but it is not a safe method of keeping it in place while underway. Winches are intended to lift a load but not to secure it. You could use the winch to lift the tire into place provided that you had another means to safely secure it to your trailer frame, such as chains or a spare tire mount. Also, winches require at least a 12-inch straight line pull from the drum; the line or strap cannot go directly from the winch...

  • Winch Recommendation to Raise and Lower 175 LB Monster Jeep Tire
The Dutton-Lainson Hand Winch with 12 Ft Strap, # DL16003, is built for multipurpose hauling and lifting operations with a capacity rating of 400 pounds. Although I do not have a recommendation as to where or how this winch could be mounted for your application, this winch does have the capacity that you would need in order to lift the 175 pound spare tire of the monster Jeep. I have included a video for you to check out.

  • What is Mechanical Advantage and How is it Calculated on a Hand Winch
Essentially to calculate mechanical advantage, first take the output force and then divide it by the input force. Input force is how much force you apply to the handle. Output force is how much force is applied to the load. Some of the winches are for use with a cable only, and they will state that in the product description. If a strap can be used it will either state that it can or it will give an indication that one can be used, for example it might say max drum capacity when using...

  • Recommended Ratcheting Winch To Pull Light Boat On To Beach
I recommend a ratcheting winch like the Dutton-Lainson Hand Winch, part # DL16003. You may want to secure the winch to something solid that you can stand on while using the winch. This winch is a ratchet-style so it would not have to worry about being close to the ground when it is being used. This winch has a one-way ratcheting system. The handle can be released for free spooling to release the load. This winch also comes with a 2 inch x 12-ft strap that has a hook on the end. I do...

  • Recommended Winch To Replace Discontinued Shelby Model 5400 Single-Speed Winch
I do have a recommendation for a winch that will have the same bolt pattern and 400lb weight capacity as your discontinued Shelby Model 5400 winches. I recommend the Dutton-Lainson Hand Winch - TUFFPLATE Finish - Single Speed - 12' Strap - 400 lbs # DL16003 which is very similar to your Shelby 5400s, and includes a 2" wide x 12' long strap. • Difference Between 4:1 Winch and 1:1 Winch
A 1:1 ratio will be much harder to turn than a 4:1 ratio. The 1:1 will move exactly 4 times quicker though. The Dutton Lainson winch part # DL16003 has a 1:1 ratio and a 400 lb capacity. It would make easy work of what you are trying to do since the needed ratio in your application is 2:1 (sorry to use more confusing ratios). What that means is that for your application you can get by with a winch that has half the capacity of the boat. So a 150 lb winch would work fine, and a 400 lb winch...

  • Winch Recommendation with Ratcheting Arm for Mounting to Trailer Floor
Probably the closest thing we have to what you want is the part # DL16003. This comes with a ratcheting handle like you want and a 12' strap. The strap has a spring-loaded hook and an 18" loop on the end. This winch is made for a 400 pound horizontal pull. There isn't a way to do an electric drill adapter with a winch like this though.

  • Is the MaxxTow Positive Lock Hand Winch # MT70176 a Ratcheting Winch
We offer ratcheting winches that work like you described where the handle gets turned a set number of degrees and requires a back-and-forth motion to ratchet the strap in, but the MaxxTow Hand Winch MT70176 that you referenced only has a ratcheting pawl design and requires that the handle be turned a full 360 degrees. For an actual ratcheting winch, I would recommend the Dutton-Lainson Hand Winch # DL16003. I attached a review video of this winch for you to check out also.

Unfortunately since Shelby is out of business, I would not know if the bolt would be able to come out or not, and trying to find replacement parts anywhere is difficult. I would recommend getting a new winch. The Dutton-Lainson Hand Winch # DL16003, which is very similar to your Shelby 5400 series winch. It also includes a 2 inch wide x 12 foot long strap. • How to Attach Hand Winch to Roof Rack Crossbar
Since you likely won't have enough clearance for a winch that uses a standard rotating handle, a winch with a ratcheting handle like the # DL16003 would be your best bet. I'd recommend using a couple of U-bolts to attach the winch to the crossbar. Also keep in mind that your roof rack crossbars are meant to withstand a weight equal to their weight capacity bearing down on them. A set-up like you propose will put lateral force on the crossbar and roof rack. I'd proceed cautiously, and carefully...

The ratcheting action of the Dutton-Lainson Hand Winch # DL16003 only works in one direction. If you are looking for a winch that does ratchet in both directions then you need the part # DL14830 instead. This has a different design and is rated for a higher weight capacity but there are no options that use a handle which operates in the back and forth motion that ratchet both ways.

Yes, I think it could work to pull your kayaks on top of your ladder racks by using the Dutton-Lainson Hand Winch - TUFFPLATE Finish - Single Speed - 12' Strap # DL16003. Of course, I wouldn't be able to say with 100 percent certainty that this is going to be a perfect solution and you won't encounter any issues because this is not something we have tried and it's not what the winch was designed for, but people use winches for all types of different situations. I cannot say without a doubt that your roof rack could not be damaged by attaching a winch to it to pull the boat. It also may void any warranties that may be on the rack itself or vehicle since it is not designed for that use. However, most of the weight will be on the winch itself so it is ultimately up to you if you want to take that chance. • How to Reduce Rolling Friction on PWC Trailer to Allow Use of Single-Speed Hand Winch DL16003
Since the Dutton-Lainson Single Speed Hand Winch # DL16003 fits your mounting area and has the handle type you need, I suggest you consider just reducing the friction on your PWC trailer by installing roller bunks. Roller bunks like # CE27700 substantially reduce friction between the PWC and the trailer and this means the 400-lb capacity winch will have to work less hard. This not only makes your loading easier and faster but it will also extend the life of your winch by reducing its workload.

Dutton-Lainson doesn't recommend using a hand winch like their # DL16003 for safety reasons. That's not to say that the winch WOULDN'T work for said purpose, but it's not recommended that the product be used in that manner. Using a brake style or a worm gear winch is recommended because once the handle is let loose, the load will still be held...
