This Dutton-Lainson worm-gear winch is designed for vertical lifting applications. Load holds when cranking is stopped. Split drum lets cable pull from opposite directions. Hex drive lets you crank winch with power drill or socket-head handle.I used four of these winches and assorted cables from etrailer to construct a lift in my garage to suspend the cap from my pickup truck near the ceiling. etrailer's web site was super easy to use and their customer service is superb. Everything arrived quickly and the quality was excellent.
I originally used a split reel hoping I could use one reel for two cables (which is not the original design of this winch), but it did not work, so I added two more winches and put one cable on each. I bought the hex drive version of the winches and they now work smoothly and effortlessly with my battery powered drill. I know these are 'overkill' for a 240 pound cap, but it is suspended above my car and I didn't want to take any chances.
Used this Dutton-Lainson Worm Gear Hand Wench as part of an overhead lift system to store my 16' Kayak beneath my outdoor patio. Use a cordless hand drill with socket adaptor for 1/2 inch socket to actuate/spin worm gear at high revolutions in place of provided handle. The Dutton-Lainson Worm Gear Hand Wench build quality was superior and operates in an outstanding manner.
Highly recommend Dutton-Lainson products as being superior quality manufacturing. Highly recommend eTrailer as a competitive supplier. Remember American products produced by Americans may on some occasions be slightly more expensive than foreign manufacturing competitors but are usually of higher build quality and provide greater reliability. Most importantly American manufactured products provide jobs to our fellow citizens and neighbors.

Just received the DL10965 today. The build is heavy duty and well made. I like the removable handle with the hex drive. At 30:1 ratio the option to use a drill drive seems worth the extra expense and made in USA closed the deal.
BTW, the etrailer.com web site is very good. Easy to navigate and retrieve information.
I am replacing 2 winches and rope suspension over a 15'X4' 1/32 scale slot car layout using 3/16" wire rope and DL10965. The dual reel winch with drill motor drive will simplify the lift in a big way.

Works as described, Plan to use a hand drill when cranking, 30:1 ratio is a lot of cranks. e-Trailer has EXCELLENT shipping, received the same week I ordered. Dutton-Lainson is a made in US manufacture.
This is working great after 1 year. It replaced a harbor freight model that failed after 3 months of use. I am very happy with it. I use an electric drill to operate it and use it a couple of times a week.
I wanted to store my kayak on the ceiling of my garage with a winch and pulleys. The web site had all of the information that I required, including a video of the product, so that the system could be correctly engineered, even down to the bolt holes. The unit arrived in perfect condition and ahead of schedule and is smooth in operation and well built. With a 1,500 pound capacity it will lift my 45 pound kayak for many years. I buy a lot on the internet and this was a very good experience.
I bought this winch to incorporate into a DIY/invention sort of thing and it works very well. Would definitely buy this winch again for the same purpose. And phone support has been great as well. Easy to call and talk to someone and all questions were answered. Great company.
This is a nice winch but the cable lengths advertised are quite generous

This was a great price on a very solid, heavy, well built American made winch. I plan to use it to lift the cap off of my truck and didn't want to trust a cheap Chinese made winch.

I use it to raise and a lower a large kayak in my garage. It works perfectly and has made it a breeze to do by myself. I attached my drill to make it effortless.
I have no complaints. Product was as described. Service was good. Communication was good. I would recommend.
