Recommended Ratcheting Winch To Pull Light Boat On To Beach

Question:

Hi have a little boat that I need to pull out of the water onto the beach at night. It only weighs about 120 lbs but Im an older guy and just dont have the strength. The is nothing to mount the wench on. Couple questions. Can I take some tent steaks and hammer it through the holes in the base to hold it while I crank? Like I said the boat a dingy really isnt very heavy. Since it would be mounted on the ground it needs to be a rotary style handle like the one you sell. I noticed it doesnt have and kind of pulling chain. Is that sold separately? Can I use a soft nylon strap instead of a chain is used on a tie down for a car ect? I dont think a chain is a very good idea. The small boat is not that strong. Suggestions Thanks

I recommend a ratcheting winch like the Dutton-Lainson Hand Winch, part # DL16003.

You may want to secure the winch to something solid that you can stand on while using the winch. This winch is a ratchet-style so it would not have to worry about being close to the ground when it is being used. This winch has a one-way ratcheting system. The handle can be released for free spooling to release the load. This winch also comes with a 2 inch x 12-ft strap that has a hook on the end.

I do caution you about securing the winch. You want to make sure that whatever you attach the winch to remains secure and doesn't come loose.
