Video Transcript for Dutton-Lainson Boat Trailer Roller Bunk Bracket Installation

Today on our boat trailer we're going to review and install the Dutton-Lainson Boat Trailer Roller Bunk Bracket part number DL21742; this is applicable in conjunction with both 4 and 5 foot Dutton-Lainson Roller Bunks part number DL21740 and part number DL21741. To begin our install we're going to remove the old or manufacture's boards and brackets. Since we're removing the bunk boards and brackets we just going to take the u-bolts off the frame. Quick check tip, before you remove your board take a tape measure and get the height of your board. That way when you install your new brackets and rollers you can set it back to the same height. Now that we have the boards lose we'll go ahead and just take them off the trailer and set them aside as they will not be reinstalled. Now for our new rollers we're going to have the Dutton-Lainson Boat Trailer Deluxe Roller Bunks part number DL21741. Now for our new Rollers we're going to install a new bracket to secure it to the trailer.

We're just going to reuse the old manufacturer's u-bolt. Once I have it set in place I'm going to go ahead and tighten it down. Note, for additional security we could add a second set of u-bolts here on the other side. Now here at the center support we're going to have 2 5 foot rollers come in together; we'll need 2 brackets. Both getting attached to the same spot; to do that we'll bring in a u-bolt from each side. This will secure our brackets.

Now I've got my first one in place, the back side here of the center support. We'll get our second u-bolt and support bracket. Now that all our hardware is in place we'll make sure she's in position and then tighten down the u-bolts. Keep in mind when tightening down your u-bolts make sure you tighten them down evenly. Now once we have the center support done we'll go ahead and install our last bracket here at the very end.

It will be the same process for the very first bracket. Now with all our brackets secured we'll go ahead and put our bunk rollers in place. Starting here at the rear set of bunk rollers we'll set it onto the brackets first. Not supplied with the install kit you'll need to add a bolt or bolt and washer for this application that'll go down through your bunk roller then through the bracket. Underneath I'm going to add a flat washer and nut. It's recommended to use nylon lock nuts; this will help prevent the hardware from loosening.

Let's go ahead and install it finger tight this time. Now we got our attachment point in place we'll go ahead and the same process here for the rear attachment point. Next, we're going to install our front bunk and rollers. It'll sit here on our forward and second bracket but because of how close we are oriented to the rear bunk we going to remove the rear set of rollers and we'll need to drill out our attachment point so that we can secure it to the bracket. Let's start with removing the rollers. Using a couple of 3/4 inch sockets we can simply just go ahead and remove the bolt that holds the rollers in place. I'm just going to slide the rollers back onto my bolt, thread that nut back on; that'll hold them together while I set them aside. Now I'll go ahead and put our front bunk in place. Set it in position on the bracket and mark the hole. Now we'll take our bunk back off, we turn it over and drill out the hole. To drill out the hole I'm going to use this small poly bit and then open it up to my final size using the step bit process. We now ready to go ahead and put the bunk back in place, drop in our hardware and secure it. Now with all our hardware in place we'll go ahead and tighten down all our fasteners. Now with one side done we'll do ahead and repeat the same process on the other side. Just like that we've completed the install of the Dutton-Lainson Boat Trailer Roller Bunk Bracket part number DL21742 on our boat trailer.

Boat Trailer Roller Bunk Bracket for Dutton-Lainson Roller Bunks

by:

Poor design lifts rollers 2 inches higher than 2x4 bunks. Modified everything and had to throw away u bolts

by:

5 Ft roller bunk Part DL21741 is a high quality item. It installed in minutes on existing brackets. Boat is approx 3/4” higher than on standard bunks but it shouldn’t be a problem since it rolls on/off effortlessly. I also bought new brackets Part DL21742 thinking they might allow lowering boat a little but they were same as existing brackets so I returned them which was simple. Customer service was excellent.

by:

Due to a mix up in shipping....nobody's fault really, another type of bracket was required. The exchange was done without a hassle and the proper part is ready for installation. The product is better than expected but the customer service exceeded any I have ever dealt with anywhere!

Have had these installed and used for a year now....boat loads and launches with ease. Could have saved to much time and money....no more ulcers and stress!!

by:

Had to drill out the rivet and replace it with a bolt/lock nut for a aluminum older boat to fit correct.

by:

The brackets are as described but unfortunately given my trailer frame I couldn't mount my roller bunks any lower than the standard bunks. The lowest you can get these brackets is probably almost 4 inches above the frame, then you have to bolt the roller bunks on top of that.

by:

To keep the same height as the old boards, the backets would need cut and possibly welded to the frame. I raised the bracket just high enough to install the U-bolts. Now, the rollers will not till as designed. Shouldn't hinder loading and unloading but I will see first time out

by:

used 5 & 4 ft. Deluxe roller bunks. on boat trailer, easy install and boat rolls off trailer very easily. Great product!! Boat is much easier to launch and load.

by:

I used these brackets with the roller bunks and they made installation a breeze paired with the recommended u-bolts. The system literally went together in less than an hour with minor modifications I opted to make. I cannot wait to pick up my new boat and put them to the test.

by:

I purchased these about a year ago and again just a few days ago. Used these on a boat I sold and then just bought 4 to set up my buddies boat with roller bunks. Very strong and sturdy bracket, works with the roller bunks great.

by:

Used these as part of a full boat trailer rebuild. They were sized perfectly and of very high quality. After a year of use these are performing excellently.

by:

I have always been impressed with the quality and timeliness of delivery from etrailer.

  • Can I Convert Regular Bunks To Roller Bunks
Yes, you could convert your Rolco trailer from the wooden bunks to roller bunks. The Boat Trailer Deluxe Roller Bunk, part # DL21741, has a universal mount system that attaches directly to either vertical or horizontal positioned bunk boards that should work on your trailer. You may also be interested in Boat Trailer Roller Bunk Bracket, part # DL21742, for mounting the roller bunks. You will have to install these at the correct angle for your boat hull as they are stationery. We also...

  • Roller Bunk and Mounting Bracket Recommendation for a 10 Foot Inflatable Boat on a Jet Ski Trailer
I recommend the Boat Trailer Deluxe Roller Bunk, # DL21741, that you have referenced. These roller bunks can be mounted vertically or horizontally directly to the trailer or by using bracket # DL21742. Since the boat you wish to carry is 10 feet long and these rollers are 5 feet long each, I recommend two sets. You will also need a total of 8 brackets to mount both sets. We recommend using stainless or galvanized hardware to mount the rollers and brackets because of their corrosion resistance.

  • Roller Bunks to Replace 8-Foot Long Wooden Bunks on a Boat Trailer
What you can do is use 2 sets of the 4-foot long sections, # DL21740, one for each side of the trailer to get two 8-foot sections. Each set is rated for 2,500 pounds. They can attach directly to a flat surface or you can attach them to the frame using 2 sets of the bunk brackets, # DL21742. The roller bunks will work well for salt water because they are galvanized steel.

  • Which Way Should Roller Bunks Face on a PWC Trailer
Roller bunks like # DL21741 are placed parallel with the trailer with the rollers pointed up. They would not go side to side on the trailer. They are oriented front to back. These rollers can be mounted directly to existing wooden bunks or you can mount brackets, # DL21742, to the existing bunks or bunk mounts, and mount the rollers to them.

  • Recommended Roller Bunks For Boat Trailer With Cobalt 206 Boat
The roller bunks I recommend for your Cobalt are the Dutton-Lainson Boat Trailer Deluxe Roller Bunk, part # DL21741. These bunk rollers are 5 ft long and each section has 6 sets of 3 rollers, that helps make loading and unloading the boat much easier. Since these come in 5 ft sections you can place them end to end for the 10 ft section you need to take care of on your trailer. These can be mounted directly to the wooden bunks you currently have, and would raise the boat by the height...

  • Roller Bunks to Replace 8 Foot Long Wooden Bunks on a Boat Trailer
You have a couple of options. First, you could leave your 8-foot long wooden bunks in place and attach roller bunks, # DL21740, for two 4-foot long sections (so you'd need 2 sets total) directly to the wooden bunks. Of you could remove the bunks and use bracket kit # DL21742 attached to the boat trailer frame and the roller bunks. You would need 2 bracket kits. The 4-foot long roller bunks are rated for 2,500 pounds per set.

  • Can Carpeted Bunks be Replaced by Roller Bunks on Boat Trailer?
You can absolutely replace your carpeted rails with roller bunks on a boat trailer. You are going to need either the 4' Roller Bunks # DL21740 or the 5' Roller Bunks # DL21741 along with the Boat Trailer Roller Bunk Brackets # DL21742, of which you'll need 4 to mount a pair of roller bunks. I've added links to video reviews of these parts for you to take a look at as well.

  • Will Dutton-Lainson Roller Bunks # DL21741 Provide Enough Support For 1448 Alweld Boat And Motor
Replacing your 7 foot bunks with 5 foot roller bunks like part # DL21741 would give you less flat surface support but may work fine for your 1448 Alweld boat. These roller bunks have a weight capacity of 3000 lbs. You would use adjustable supports that allow you to make sure the boat is resting as flat as possible against the bunk, giving it the maximum support. You would place the roller bunks near the rear of the trailer to take advantage of the rollers when the boat makes initial contact...

  • Replacing Wood Bunks with Roller Bunks on a Boat Trailer
Since it is recommended to use 2 roller bunk brackets for each individual roller bunk, I recommend adding additional roller bunk brackets and removing the wood bunks. You could use the Boat Trailer Roller Bunk Bracket, # DL21742. This bracket is compatible with the 4 foot and 5 foot Dutton Lainson Roller Bunks, # DL21741 and # DL21740. You will need a total of 8 brackets to mount a 5 foot and a 4 foot roller bunk on each side of the trailer.

  • Can Dutton-Lainson Boat Trailer Roller Bunks be Attach to Swivel Brackets
Yes, you can attach the roller bunks # DL21741 to swivel brackets. The brackets will not be able to swivel independently of one another though once attached to a rigid item like the frame of the roller bunks. The brackets that are associated with these roller bunks are # DL21742, and they too have limited swivel abilities so using this type of bracket will work just fine.

  • Parts Needed to Convert a Magic Tilt Trailer From Bunk Boards to Roller Bunks
I do not see why you would not be able to convert your Magic Tilt trailer to roller bunks. Typically you want the bunks to be at least 50% of the length of your boat, but I recommend using the same length as the current bunks from the manufacturer or even slightly longer if you have the space. To make the transition to roller bunks, you will need the roller bunks and the bunk brackets. The Boat Trailer Deluxe Roller Bunk # DL21740 will provide a 4' roller bunk section. You likely need...

From the top of a roller to the bottom of the bracket on roller bunks # DL21740 it is approximately 2-7/8 inches. These roller bunk can be attached directly to wooden bunks or you could use brackets # DL21742 which has slotted mounting holes so you can adjust the position of the roller bunks. Two brackets are needed per roller bunk so 4 would be needed for # DL21740. I have linked a video showing an example installation for you.

  • Can Pontoon Boat Use Roller Bunks
You can use roller bunks like the part # DL21741 on a pontoon boat trailer like what you have, but since you need to install them at an angle and do not want to use wood bunks as the base you will also need the install brackets # DL21742 unless it would be better to mount them directly to a board since it's a launch ramp. You should note that the roller sections are 5 feet in length so you would need most likely 3 sets of these front to back so that you get a length of 15 feet.
