Made a nice little trailer to haul wife’s golf cart!

by:

Good kit with the necessary parts to replace leaf spring suspension. I welded the hangers rather than bolting them. The parts are not coated for the price point so you will need to paint them or they will rust immediately.

by:

A good source for trailer parts. For finding parts, you need to know the specs of the trailer, not necessarily the manufacturer. Thanks etrailer!

by:

All businesses should be like etrailer! The gal was so kind and knowledgeable to help my husband get the right leaf spring replacements. We ordered a tire last spring and the same, excellent service and prompt delivery. Thanks so much

by:

I inherited an aluminum trailer that ended up needing a complete overhaul and etrailer was the best resource I could have found. After researching extensively to find out what I needed and watching their videos on how to do it I ended up ordering an EZ-lube axle, galvanized hubs, springs and a hanger kit (in other words everything from the frame down).
Everything shipped quickly and arrived in great shape. All the parts worked perfectly and I couldn't be happier!

by:

Everything was just as I ordered it and it fits like a glove

by:

Received my parts today and after examining everything all looks good.
The quality of parts looks excellent and can't wait to start installing them.
Shipping was fast and arrived as they said.
Great company to buy with.
Will was very helpful and very knowledgeable about parts.
If you call would definitely ask for Will.

by:

Springs & hanger kit worked well.

by:

Great service, great value

by:

Product arrived just as described and very quickly. This kit was a great way to drop the springs on our trailer enough for the axle to be put on correctly.

by:

Quick shipping.......reasonable prices

by:

The axle hanger kit arrived today. I have done a dry setup; everything fits as expected.

Thanks for your excellent product and prompt delivery.

by:

Product was very good quality. Website was very thorough which made it much more comfortable ordering the proper parts. Fast delivery with updates throughout the process. Good quality service.

by:

my order arrived well packaged.
the parts
are every bit as good as OEM and went together nicely.

by:

Worked great on my 5x10 utility trailer

by:

I had to email customer service as I bracket was folded incorrectly so that the bolt holes did not line up. Upon recieveing my email, a replacement was on the way! EXCELLENT customer service. Thank you etrailer.

by:

The hangers look good and I believe they will do a great job. I need to move my axle back on my trailer so it will be able to haul some weight. It is a dump style body and can't handle weight, only on the front of the trailer. So I am going to move the axle back about 6 to 8 inches. The tracking info on the kit was great... ALL gratitude goes to your company...

It works great. Thanks for making a wonderful product. I give you 5 stars.

by:

I order parts from e-trailer fairly often it's always very fast shipping they always have what I'm looking for probably the best website to buy trailer parts online will continue to shop with them

by:

The fit and finish were very good. Unfortunately, for me I had to order additional hanger brackets for the springs that were suggested for me as the kit only came with two compatible brackets. It has delayed my project for a few days until I get the new brackets.

by:

I bought springs, mounts and Tailight kit to fix up a rusty utility trailer. I cut, weld scraped and painted for the better part of a month in spare time. The springs and mounting instructions on e trailer are excellent. Only issue/shortcoming are the tail lights. Wire just pushes in and spring loaded strip holds them. I soldered and sealed the connection with silicone. So far that salt covered roads haven't hurt it in winter. The folks at etrailer are very helpful and prices are a good value.

  • Does Trailer Tongue Length Have an Affect on Axle Placement
The formula used for determining trailer axle placement (attached below) is just a general guideline. If you're building a trailer with a longer/shorter tongue than a standard trailer would have you may need to adjust these measurements. That said, we aren't custom trailer builders so we really can't provide specifics and the final location will be up to the installer. If you need the hardware to attach your axle to the frame, I recommend the Single-Axle Trailer Hanger Kit for Double-Eye...

  • Should The Hanger Or Shackle Be In Front Of The Axle On Single Axle Trailer.
For your single axle trailer you will want the fixed hanger mount to be in the front, which is the longer bracket in our kits like the # APS4, and the shorter mount for shackle to be in the rear. This is because as your axle hits bumps in the road it not only gets pushed up, but also back. With the shackle in the back you will have the best ride quality and suspension travel.

  • Installing Leaf Springs on Single Axle Trailer
For a single axle trailer, you want the shackle strap to be able to move so that you have the spring deflection needed for your suspension. Angled like the photo or even almost vertical is fine you just don't want the shackle strap to bind and have issue as you go over bumps. If it is completely vertical or angled back toward the axle, then your leaf spring is not long enough and your suspension components will not move as intended giving you a rough ride at best and at worst failure...

  • Correct Leaf Spring Hanger Position for Single Axle Trailer
In order to mount a single axle on a trailer we recommend using a kit like the Single-Axle Trailer Hanger Kit for Double-Eye Springs part # APS4 which comes with hangers, shackles, and shoulder bolts. These can then be paired with a set of leaf springs like the 3-Leaf Double-Eye Spring part # SP-220275 which are 25-1/4" long. The spring hangers should then be positioned around 24-7/8" apart while using these springs. That said, we can't provide a full list of hanger spacing for every leaf...

  • Can I Use a 2" Hanger for a 1-3/4" Wide Leaf Spring
You want to make sure the hangers on your trailer have the same width as your leaf spring so if your leaf spring is 1-3/4" wide then you don't want to use a 2" or 2-1/2" wide hanger. It's true that you want the hanger bolts installed somewhat loosely so you leaf spring isn't binding, but you definitely don't want that much side to side play for your leaf springs inside your hangers. You either need to use wider leaf springs or you need to use smaller hangers like what you see with the...

  • What Torque Should My Suspension Components Be Tightened To?
If you're referring to the bolts that attach the shackles in your suspension system to your # APS4 hangers, you won't need to torque them to a specific rating since over tightening those bolts would squeeze the shackles against the leaf springs and potentially cause binding issues. When it comes to mounting the hangers, it is strongly recommended that you weld your leaf spring hangers to your trailer frame. Mounting the hangers with a bolt only will not provide a secure connection between...

The spline length of the bolt that come with the Single-Axle Trailer Hanger Kit for Double-Eye Springs # APS4 aren't long enough that they would prevent the movement of a leaf spring with it. Basically holds the bolt to the shackle or hanger but does not go through enough to the spring to prevent it from moving.

  • Can Trailer with Slipper Springs have Double Eye Springs attach to Same Hanger Channel
You have a really interesting suspension setup on your trailer. I don't know what the width of the channel is that your springs attach to but to go to a double leaf will require using a hanger kit like the part # APS4 that you referenced. If you were to add shackles to the rear hanger area the spring would be unlevel and you can't add them to the front as well. Plus you have to factor in that you most likely would not have room for two shackles and springs in the channel currently. So...

  • Hanger Placement with 3,500 lb Axle with Hanger Kit part # APS4 On Trailer with Axles Under Springs
Your axles being under the leaf springs will not change the hanger location recommendations listed for the Single Axle Hanger Kit part # APS4. You would want to have the hangers 25-3/4 apart measured on bolt center. However, since your axles are below the springs you would not need to have 5 inches between the center of the axle and the trailer frame.

  • How Far Apart Should Hangers be Mounted for 27 Inch Leaf Springs
If your Double-Eye Leaf Springs are 27 inches long, you will just want to mount the hangers in the Redline Single-Axle Trailer Hanger Kit # APS4 mentioned in your question about 26-1/2 inches apart. As a general rule, you want the distance between hangers on a leaf spring suspension system to be around a 1/2 inch shorter than the distance of your leaf springs, which will allow for some movement with the shackle strap.

  • Option Because No Trailer Leaf Springs are Long Enough
You cannot use the 30 inch leaf springs as they won't be long enough; you were correct about where the leaf spring holes needed to be. What you will likely have to do is cut off your existing hangers and weld on new ones to match a new leaf spring size. For example if you have a single axle trailer with 3-1/4" front hangers and 1-1/4" rear hangers use the Single-Axle Trailer Hanger Kit for Double-Eye Springs # APS4. You need to be sure to place them correctly and I have attached an article...

The shackle straps need to be placed on the outside of the rear leaf spring hangers which you can see in the attached photo. Furthermore, the distance between the two mounting plates (inside to inside) on your leaf spring hangers should be 1-7/8", not 2" which is most likely why there is too much of a gap between the shackle straps and leaf spring. Therefore, the leaf spring hangers will need to be replaced. For this, we generally kit the single axle trailer suspension hangers and shackle...

When it comes to placing an axle on a trailer there is no set place for it to go, however the help article I have attached can really help you out in determining where the best place is on your trailer. A good starting point is having 60% of the trailer in front of the axle and 40% behind (include the tongue with this starting point) but because most of the weight of your boat will be at the rear due to the motor, you will most likely want to move it further back on the trailer in order...
