Video Transcript for etrailer Shackle Strap Review

Hello neighbors, it's Brad here at etrailer, and today we're taking a look at replacement shackle straps for your trailer suspension. Most times our trailers are stored outside and they're exposed to a lot of elements. So just like any metal, it can corrode over time and you can see here's our old shackle strap. It has seen better days, and sometimes your holes can actually begin to oblong over time as the suspension moves. And unfortunately, once it starts to do that, it can get worse over time. So replacing something that connects all your suspension, these are gonna be a strong point to have your lease springs go to your equalizer.

So making sure that these are actually structurally strong are gonna make sure that your suspension is gonna be working properly and safely. So these straps have a diameter hole for the bolt of nine sixteenths. And you're gonna want to look at your old shackle straps to make sure that these are a direct replacement. And you're gonna measure the length by going from the center of the hole to the center of the hole. And these ones are gonna be three and 1/8th of an inch.

These are going to be steel construction, so they're gonna be nice and sturdy. And also when replacing anything on your suspension, this is just gonna kind of give it a fresh look. You know, if you're replacing your equalizer and you have rusty shackle straps, that doesn't really aesthetically look great, so this is gonna give it a fresh look and also be structurally strong. Now these are sold individually. So if you are replacing your tandem axle equalizer, you're gonna wanna pick up four of them.

And that was a look at replacement shackle straps for your trailer suspension..

I replaced the equalizers, shackles, bushings, bolts, and nuts on an old trailer. Everything fit properly without modification. Product quality was excellent.

No problems to date. A coat of primer keeps the corrosion under control.

by:

Great straps, fit as expected. After one year, they are holding up great.

by:

Better quality than OEM.

by:

Not much to say it's a shackle strap, I ordered 4 and they are as described and shipping was right on, I did however redrill them for 2" centers, I'm happy and wont hesitate to order from etrailer in the future.

by:

Quick delivery and exactly what i ordered. Thank you.

by:

Was suppose to be delivered on Aug 2, then it said Aug 4, today is the 4th and still no part and says Aug 7th now. Thanks to the poor communication and shipping time we have to push back our vacation

by:

Perfect fit for my 5th wheel suspension rebuild. Needed to raise trailer height and was suggested in the Correct Track lift system I purchased from Etrailer.

by:

I am completely satisfied with service and the product that I purchased from etrailer.com. The measurements and specifications on the web site were complete and accurate. Shipping was prompt and the parts were packed more carefully than anything that I have purchased online. Installation of my replacement leaf springs went seamlessly which I really appreciated as I had to leave my broken trailer at my hunt camp and had limited tools to do the repair.

I can't recommend etrailer.com highly enough. They are now my first choice in trailer parts.

by:

The non threaded (solid) part was slightly longer than my original bolt. Bolt length is correct.
But I was able to make it work.

by:

the product arrived quickly and new as promised. I was so impressed with the customer service personal. I needed help with size the associate I spoke with was so knowledgeable and helpful. I would recommend this company to anyone that is looking for trailer parts. Or any other product they may carry.

Perfect and on time

Worked like they are supposed to. Held on by the bolts I purchased and leaf spring. It fixed what was broken.

Using etrailer.com has been a great experience. They have a huge selection of trailer parts and make it very easy to find the right parts. The packaging seems to have gotten alot better. Very sturdy box. It arrived within a few days from ordering which was a huge plus. I was able to get the job done sooner than planned. That kind of experience will keep me loyal to etrailer for any future trailer parts needs. Thanks guys and gals. Keep up the great work. As far as the parts, eveything was heavier duty than factory. Since I measured the old parts I was able to find the exact replacements for those parts. The job went so smoothly without any issues. These springs raised the trailer height without any load on the axles 1.5 inches. It was definitely time for new springs and hardware. Im kind of glad the one spring broke.

by:

This is a multiple product review. The long bracket are good. The shorter brackets are of the same good quality. The issue is using the short brackets with the shackles. The shorter brackets could be narrower so the shackle line up better with spring and other longer bracket. We used washers to make it align better. The greasing bolts are good, but could be longer. so we could only use 2 of the 6 and had to use normal grade 8 bolts.

by:

I was so happy to be able to order the exact replacement shackle straps for my RV suspension system. This monster wasn't moving again until the repair was made.

etrailer offered my replacement strap at a great price with fast delivery. Let's not forget excellent customer service, helpful videos and detailed product descriptions to ensure you get the right part the first time. Thank you etrailer staff for your excellent customer care. I'll be back when the need arises.

Loved the personal service and the help. I tried a few other sources before going online to order from etrailer. One place I tried was an online tool dealer, and their online site was a mess without help and so was a retail location. etrailer, was quick to find me exactly what I needed and got me fixed up in just a few minutes. From now on all my trailer needs will be fulfilled from etrailer!!!

by:

I have bought several products from etrailer. Trailer fenders, spare tire brackets, tongue jack and retractable stern straps. I've ordered all my parts at different times and all of them have shipped and received to me in a short time. I will be ordering more parts from them on my next trailer project

by:

Great products for a good price and fantastic service. I will be using etrailer again.
I broke one spring on my tandem axle trailer. After a little internet search I found etrailer. I decided to change all springs(upgraded to p4)shackles,equalizers,n bolts) total price around $200.00 about 40 percent cheaper than a local trailer repair shop..I ordered it early on a Tuesday and I got the order on Wednesday. Changed out parts on Thursday and back on the road on Friday. Great company to deal with!!

by:

Great product! My first purchase from etrailer but it won't be my last! etrailer seems to have everything you would need for your RV or trailer. Waited until the last minute to pick up an extra leaf spring for my trip to Alaska. Fast shipping got it here in plenty of time. Thanks!

Perfect fit

by:

Ordered these shackle links by far cheaper than anywhere else i could find them.i installed them very easily.they seem to b a solid product.most importantly to me is etrailers business ethic.they had me my parts days before the delivery date.they sent them immediatly after ordering them.whats most impressive is it was a 6.00 dollar order.to them its just as important as a 600.00 order.etrailer is the place to for all your trailer needs trust me.its nice to feel appreciated no matter what your order is.etrailer is my 1st stop shop

by:

These shackles installed easily and were the exact same dimensions as the ones I replaced. The shackles are solid and appear to be sturdier than the ones I replaced. Ordering with etrailer was easy as they provided all the dimensions needed to order the correct shackles. Delivery was fast as well.

by:

I had a trailer spring break this summer on the way home from a 2,700 mile trip. Our small luggage trailer just couldn’t take anymore rough roads. One of the springs broke through the centering bolt. The etrailer.com website and Tammie P. came through with replacement springs and accessories. Thank you Tammie P. And trailer.com!

by:

I ordered numerous trailer suspension parts. I really appreciated the bideo explanation of the parts as i have not worked on a trailer before and had to match them up w what i had. Ordered on sunday and arrived that friday. Good quality n great price. Will definite go to etrailer in the future!

  • Dimensions of TRSL313 Trailer Suspension Shackle Strap
As you can see in the photo I've edited for you, the # TRSL313 measures 4-1/2 by 1-1/4 inches. The center hole to center hole spacing is 3-1/8 inches and the bolt holes themselves are 9/16 of an inch in diameter.

  • Does Shackle Strap Come in Quantity of One
The Shackle Strap # TRSL313 does come in a quantity of one, so the price is for each individual strap. For a single axle trailer you will need a total of four shackle straps. I have added a link to a video review of this strap for you to check out as well.

The best match we have for you is the Shackle Strap # TRSL313 which measures 3-1/8" center hole to center hole, 4-1/2" long x 1-1/4" wide, and just under 1/4" thick. This is designed to work with 9/16" diameter bolts. Attached is a video showing these dimensions for you to reference.

  • Should Tandem Axle Trailer Suspension Shackles be Replaced One Axle at a Time
I'd recommend doing one axle at a time. Jack the trailer up by the frame on both sides and then jack the axle up to take the load off of it and then replace the shackles. Trying to do both sides at one time will be hard as the components will most likely have tension in them which will prevent them from from easily being removed and reinstalled.

  • Do I Need Longer Shackle Straps When Going 1-1/2 Inches Taller with a New Equalizer
The difference in the length of the hangers typically dictates the lengths of the shackle straps and if you're going with a taller equalizer there may be a need to get longer shackles; going from a 2-1/2" tall equalizer to one that's 4" tall may not throw things off enough to require new shackles but getting something a little longer like the Shackle Strap - 3-1/8" Long # TRSL313 won't hurt and will likely make installation a bit easier.

  • Should Shackle Straps Angle Towards the Axles or Away From Them
In order for your trailer suspension to function properly you will want the angle of the shackle strap to be towards the axle so that as the leaf spring compresses and expands it will have somewhere it can go. Otherwise, you will not get the optimum performance from your trailer suspension. It may not be super dangerous, but if the suspension is not operating properly you could cause premature failure which might endanger yourself and other motorists. • Troubleshooting Equalizer and Shackle Not Making W Shape After Leveling Trailer
Is this with it still leveled? Have you tried sitting it down completely on the axles again? That will likely get everything back into place. It doesn't look like anything is specifically broken/damaged from what I can see unless your leaf spring suffered damage but that isn't in the picture. The equalizers shifting like this can happen when leveling or lifting the trailer. Sometimes mine get this way and if nothing else driving gets it to shift back.

  • 2-1/2 Inch Shackle Straps Are Flipping After Replacing Leaf Springs
Shackle straps can actually flip if they're too short as opposed to being too long, so it makes sense because you mentioned you put on shorter, 2-1/2" shackle straps. Also, if the leaf springs you replaced are shorter than what you had ( leaf springs elongate over time so you likely got ones shorter than what you replaced, as is common), straps can also flip. I recommend going with longer shackle straps, either the Shackle Strap - 2-3/4" Long # TRSL275 or Shackle Strap - 3-1/8" Long # TRSL313.

In regards to measuring shackle straps, you don't need to remove them to measure accurately. If they are still installed on the trailer simply measure from the center of each bolt head, the two most common are 2-1/4" part # TRSL225 and 3-1/8" part # TRSL313. It looks like you have the smaller 2-1/4" but you really ought to just measure yourself first.

  • Shackle Straps Are Flipping on Tandem Axle Trailer
Shackle links can flip when the trailer is unloaded since there isn't enough weight to keep them in proper position, and while a new, shorter equalizer may help, the easiest thing to check is the shackle links. Shackles that are too short can cause them to flip, so the best thing to check first is the length of your shackles, and replace them with longer ones if possible. You'll want to measure from center to center of the bolt holes to check their length, and replace them with one of...

  • What to do if Trailer Shackles are Flipping
Generally the issue when shackles flip when hauling empty is that they are too short. So I recommend measuring them from center hole to center hole and assuming they are less than 3 inches, replacing them with longer ones, the 3-1/8" Shackle Strap # TRSL313 or 3-1/2" Shackle Strap # TRSL350.

If the shackle straps are within a 1/2" of what you normally had, say the 2-5/8" # 115052 to 3-1/8" # TRSL313, you should be okay to install them. The problem seems to be mostly that your shackle straps are hitting the frame, and the reason for this is almost certainly because the 3-1/8" Shackle Strap # TRSL313 you are using are too long. The other possibility was the hangers being too short but that is unlikely considering the lengths you gave.
