Video Transcript for CE Smith U-Bolt Kit for Round Trailer Axles Review

Speaker 1: Today, we'll be having a look at the CE Smith line of U-bolt mounting kits for mounting round trailer axles. Here's what our kit comes with. It's everything you need for replacing the U-bolts on a single axle on your trailer. We have 4 new U-bolts, you'll have 2 per side; 2 new plates, 1 per side; 8 new lock washers, you'll be using 4 for each side of the trailer; and 8 new nuts, again 4 for each side of the trailer. You can see how well our U-bolts grip around the contours of our axle. This'll keep the axle firmly attached to our leaf springs, so we don't have to worry about it slipping and sliding. Now because we have the zinc and the galvanized finish on our plate and our hardware, this will better protect them from corrosion from the elements, especially salt spray. It's not an issue if you decide to use them on a boat trailer such as this one.Now many of our customers have had to make a second phone call or send an email to us after they bought a new axle for their trailer because they found, once they tried to remove the old one or put the new one on, that they couldn't get their factory U-bolts off.

They had to cut them off, and now they're searching for a replacement. This kit will be a perfect solution for this problem here. Now many of our customers compared these to the Redline line of U-bolt kits. Now the main difference you're going to see between this one and those is that those do not have the galvanized or the zinc finish on the plates or the hardware, which will cause them to rust out faster. As you can see, we already have our new axle sitting on top of our leaf springs. Now this kit could work for an axle that sits on top or below your leaf springs. It works for both applications.

You don't need to worry if yours resides below, you can still use this kit for that. We'll start by taking our new U-bolts and dropping them over our axle on either side of our leaf spring. Now we'll take our new plate. We want to make sure that this flange right here faces down, this hole here in the center lines up with the alignment pin on our leaf spring, and we'll insert our U-bolts through the holes. Place on our lock washers, and we'll put that on our nuts. Now we can start to tighten our hardware, making sure we tighten them evenly as possible. Now we'll torque our hardware again, making sure we alternate to ensure that we're doing it as evenly as possible. And that completes our look at the CE Smith line of U-bolt kits for mounting round trailer axles..

CE Smith U-Bolt Kit for Mounting 2,000-lb, Round Trailer Axles - 4" Long U-Bolts - Zinc - CE23000

Average Customer Rating:  4.6 out of 5 stars   (122 Customer Reviews)

Mount your round, 1-3/4" diameter axle to your trailer's leaf springs with this U-bolt kit. U-bolts, plates, nuts, and washers included. Zinc plating resists rust and corrosion - great for boat trailers.

Was a perfect fit for my trailer. The original axle was rated for 1500 lbs, was very hard to find bearings for and took weeks to get. After the other side failed, I decided to upgrade to a 2000 lb axle that had common hubs and bearings. No regrets.

by:

U-bolt kit met all expectations. "Shiny" nuts and lock-washers screaming "offshore" sourcing. I replaced with eight (8) grade eights, probably made off shore as well. This will likely last the life of the trailer.

Extremely satisfied with etrailer.com! I Highly recommend this company!! I called to place an order at 7:00pm est and I talked with Roger R who made sure I ordered the correct leaf springs and hardware. I had purchased regular ground shipping but Roger and the entire etrailer crew that handled the order and packaged it up had it out the door and shipped that evening and I received the parts the next day which was over 600 miles away from their facility. I would have to say this was absolutely the best online purchase order experience that I have ever made, and I have made online purchases since online purchases were available. They have a great online catalog but if you call you will get professional and friendly service without question. I will use this company again and I suggest anyone that needs springs or guidance on installing them to give etrailer a call. They will have you the right parts shipped very quickly. I know to be as good as etrailer.com is takes the entire team and it starts with the person that answers the phone and then the person that processes the order and then the most important part when the person who packs it and gets it ready to ship does it to perfection. Thanks to Roger and the team I had my trailer rolling within 35 hours from when I called them.

by:

U bolts to short. Called customer service. They won’t have longer ones till august!

by:

no frills, no problems, nice and solid. It even survived a broken OEM spring incident on the road. I used it as part of a spring-over-axle conversion on my Aliner.

we recently replaced with with longer U-bolts - only becasue we upgraded the trailer springs

by:

Worked like I expected them to. Quick shipment. If the u-bolt kits had been made in USA instead of China I would have given 5 stars.

by:

Excellent customer service!

by:

With the help of your how to videos I was able to install product with ease.
The one thing in your ordering process that could use some help is the shipping. When I picked the type of shipping I wanted to use I picked the quickest but once it shipped it was slower then I would have liked

by:

High quality. I made a mistake ordering rounded top rather than square top. My fault not company. Be sure to look at axel shape.

by:

Very satisfied with the service and all of Allison's help. I would highly recommend etrailer to everyone. Thanks again for such a great experience. Jeff

by:

easy purchasing experience , good price , great service and delivery !

by:

fit perfect

by:

I ordered my axle kit and received it 30 days later, I expected it in a week. The hubs, U-bolt kit, springs and grease were shipping in a box, when I receive it the heavy parts had smashed the grease tube, and was quite the mess in the box. The U-bolt kit I ordered as suggested by etrailer was the wrong kit and the bolts were short (their system did not suggest the right kit for the thicker springs). I see there is a kit I could have ordered with longer bolts. When I went to tighten the lug bolts on the new hub I received, one bolt started to pull through the hub. I reported the grease problem to etrailer, they could not care less, so I thought it would not be worth my time to report the other issues. I guess I will purchase new u-bolts, grease, and perhaps a hub somewhere else.

by:

Very fast shipping, was completed on the weekend. Thanks

by:

Very helpful to make sure what I was ordering is exactly what I needed. Got the parts on time and at a very fair price. I will definitely use etrailer again and also recommend them.
Thanks for you help.

by:

Nice kit. Tough quality.

by:

great quality parts, fast hipping and they were also cheaper than other online retailers; they should offer veterans and duty military a discount.

by:

Unfortunately, I had to return the axle and components. The rest of the trailer was bad, too!

by:

Excellent replacements for older rusted bolts.

by:

U bolt kit and leaf spring kit fit great on the old 1979 snow mobile trailer

Dale B.

Good

by:

U-Bolts were perfect. The springs don't seem to be as heavy as my originals. I bought my tilt trailer from a private owner who made it. The original springs leaves are slightly thicker than the new ones. I am not sure what weight this trailer is rated for. The new springs seem to be perfect in size so I will keep them as spare parts

by:

Had a hard time finding leaf spring mounting plate kit that had a 1 7/8" gap in the u-bolts. Ordered these and they fit perfectly and arrived in a timely manner. Shipping was as much as the item, but that is out of etrailer's hands of course. Quite happy with the product.

by:

Worked perfectly on my boat trailer, and super easy to install

by:

the u bolts for my leaf springs worked great.

Martin K.

still going strong , they work great

by:

Checked at Lowes and TSC, two locations and they did not have U bolts, were out of stock. Then on line found kits that was what I needed very cheap which made we go back to etrailer where I discovered they carried different grades. I bought the branded product and am satisfied.

  • U-Bolt Kit for Smaller Round Axle on Jet Ski Trailer
It could just be the angle but looking at the picture you attached it appears that you have a 1-3/4 inch diameter axle. This would be consistent too with the smaller 2,000 pound axles that are typically on jet ski trailers like what you have. I do recommend verifying this measurement once more but if this is indeed the case then you can use the CE Smith U-Bolt Kit # CE23000 which features U-Bolts with an inner width of 1-7/8 inches and galvanized plates to resist any rust or corrosion....

This will give you a standard size axle with good bearings, hubs, and EZ-lube spindles. This is far nicer than the weird sized stuff that comes on Harbor Freight trailers. • Recommended Rubber Bushing for 1,800 to 2,200 lb Round Axle
Unfortunately we don't carry any split bushings that are that size. I assume you are wanting to cushion your axle where it installs at your leaf springs, but that is not recommended. You want to make sure you have a solid connection to your axle and I recommend using U-bolts like the CE Smith U-Bolt Kit for Mounting 2,000-lb, Round Trailer Axles # CE23000 if you don't already have them. The torque required for a fit will not give you cushion but there are other ways to achieve that if...

I have an option that will work for you, but we don't sell any 1-1/2" x 1-1/2" square axles. We do have the 2,000lb # e37YR which has a hub face measurement of 72" which will push your wheels out 1/2" on each side which isn't a big deal, and has the same 58" spring seat spacing so it'll fit your frame perfectly. • Will U-Bolt Mounting Kit for 1-3/4 Inch Diameter Axles Fit 2 Inch Diameter Axles
The U-bolts on a kit like # CE23000 would not fit on a true 2" diameter axle. The inner width is 1-7/8" which would be just enough to fit on a 1-3/4" diameter axle. I recommend measuring your axle again, or measuring the inner width of your old U-bolts. Your typical 2" axle would be a square axle, and more than likely you actually have a 1-3/4" axle. Your round axle is going to have a 1-3/4" or 2-3/8" diameter. If you find that it is actually 2-3/8" you would need the # CE23002 instead.

Since nobody makes a kit for axles smaller than 2-3/8" diameter you will have to put it together. You also want to double check that axle diameter. More than likely it is the standard 1-3/4" and not 1-5/8". You will need to have a certified welder add a spring seat on top of the axle on either side using # TRSS175. Once this is done, you can use # CE23000 to complete the conversion.

It comes with hangers, shackles, bolts, etc. I don't know what axle diameter you have though so picking out a u-bolt kit would be a little more challenging. • Is a 2,000LB Axle With Hub Face Measurement of 70.5" a Commonly Found Size?
This is not a common axle size. The Axle # e32GR is going to be our closest to your current axle. This axle has a 72" hub face with spring center of 58". You may be able to use this axle if you have the clearance for your tires to be moved out 3/4" on each side of your trailer. The current spring seats can be cut off and 2 new Seats # TRSS175 can be welded on at the 59" spring center you have. A U-Bolt Kit # CE23000 will allow you to attach this axle to your current leaf springs.

Finding the ideal tires, wheels and axles for your trailer will depend heavily on the overall weight of the trailer. For example, a jet-ski can weigh as little as 400-500 lbs on the light end and around 1,000 lbs on the heavy end. You must also consider the weight of the trailer itself sitting on the axles. Also, keep in mind that if the axle is positioned properly, the tongue of the trailer should hold about 10 percent of the total weight. For example, let's assume that your jet-skis...
