Can Trailer with Slipper Springs have Double Eye Springs attach to Same Hanger Channel

Question:

I have a single axle, rated at 2K, 4 x 8 ft foldable utility trailer with slipper springs. The hangers are welded to the trailer frame as one piece for bolt attachment of the single eye and slipper see uploaded picture. I want to replace slippers with double eyes. Since the hangers are integral with the frame and are at the same level/height can I buy shackles shortest length possible to add to the OEM hanger so I can use the double eyes? Do I need a shackle for the front and rear eye to keep the trailer/leaf spring level? Im thinking if I installed 2 inch shackles this will raise my trailer height 2 inches. If I installed the shackles would there be any concerns I should have?

You have a really interesting suspension setup on your trailer. I don't know what the width of the channel is that your springs attach to but to go to a double leaf will require using a hanger kit like the part # APS4 that you referenced. If you were to add shackles to the rear hanger area the spring would be unlevel and you can't add them to the front as well. Plus you have to factor in that you most likely would not have room for two shackles and springs in the channel currently.

So what I would recommend doing is having a weld on hanger kit like the part # APS4 welded to your frame so that you can use a double eye spring. Or you could stick with slipper springs and keep the setup as-is.
