Video Transcript for Bulldog Winch Electric Winch BDW20011 Review

Today we're going to review part number BDW20011. This is the Bulldog 2-inch by 2-inch hitch mounted winch mounting plate with the handles. This part will provide a portable and flexible mounting solution for your winch. It has the fully welded heavy duty frame and even the handles. If you'll notice right here between the winch mount and the receiver tube, it is double gusseted on top and on the bottom to give you extra strength. It is designed to fit any standard 2-inch by 2-inch hitch receiver.

This can be used for truck winches up to 12,000 pound with the standard 10 by 4-1/2-inch mounting bolt pattern and it will also fit smaller 6-1/2, 4-1/2-inch bolt pattern winches. I just want to try to show you the holes you see in the bottom of the plate there. When you say the mounting patterns, you're talking about these mounting holes. The outer holes, the distance between them center-to-center is 4-1/2 inches and on the outer ones you can see it would be 10 inches and then on the inner ones would get you your 6-1/2. It will use either 10 by 4-1/2-inch mounting bolt pattern or the 6-1/2 by 4-1/2-inch mounting bolt pattern. Now on the very front .. let me turn this around ...

I'm going to show you the holes on the front. You'll notice the holes here. These are at a 10-inch pattern center-to-center so this will accept any of the fairleads that have a 10-inch mount pattern. It does come with this adapter plate and the included hardware to install it. If by chance you're going to use a fairlead that has an 8-inch mount pattern, if you look at these inner holes there it would be 8 inches.

All you have to do is attach this right to that and then attach your fairlead to there and you can use the smaller 8-inch mount pattern if you prefer. Now one last thing I do want to let you know is the capacity of this mounting plate will be based on the capacity of the vehicle hitch receiver. That should do it for the review of part number BDW20011. This is the Bulldog 2-inch by 2-inch hitch mounted winch mounting plate with the handles. .

The bracket looks nice and well built the only unfortunate thing is the box arrived torn up and some hardware missing looked as if it were a return that had been sent back and uninspected and left in disarray hard time feeling warm and fuzzy about it since it was supposed to be new

I'll admit, the price was a big factor.....you get what you pay for. Two of the four holes to mount the winch were off by more than an inch, so i had to drill new ones. The wiring harness was no better. The quick disconnect had intermittent electrical connectivity....had to modify it. Manufacturer was little help, they offered to drill the holes but that required shipping the mount 3500 miles at my expense. They made no offer to compensate me. They did mail a new quick disconnect. The mount works well but i had to work for it as well as pay for it!

This worked out good as I used it for the Truck and can move it to my Bob Cat / Car Trailer , I fabled up receivers and move it from one to the other in just a few minutes very handy Then I just store it in the garage, we mounted everything on brackets and made a plate to mount onto it as well so all in one .

Well made, strong, I really like that it's a one piece unit and that's why I spent the extra money..
There were other models much cheaper that are bolt together which I don't recommend...

  • Can the Westin Sportman Grille Guard Support a Winch on a 2005 Dodge Dakota
I spoke with my contact at Westin about the Sportsman Grille Guard, # 40-1665, for your 2005 Dodge Dakota. he stated that while the grille guard can support aftermarket lights, it is not designed to support a winch or for winching applications. What you could do to mount a winch at the front of your Dakota is to install a front mount hitch # 31228, and then a hitch mounted winch plate like # BDW20011. I have included a link to the winch plates we carry below as well as a link to the installation...

  • How To Choose Correct Size Wire for 12K Winch on Rear of Vehicle
In order to find the correct size wire for a winch you'll need to know the amp rating. The Bulldog Winch Trailer Winch part # BDW10040 for example which has a 12,000 lb capacity and can pull anywhere from 65 - 400 amps depending on the load. It would take a very large wire to handle this much power over a distance from the front of the vehicle to the rear and that is not something we offer unfortunately. If you were only pulling out small loads then you could get away with the Bulldog Winch...
