Video Transcript for Bulldog Winch Electric Winch BDW20172 Review

Today we're going to review part number BDW20172, this is the Bulldog electrical quick connect set for electric winches. These are most commonly used for heavy duty trucks and work truck use. Basically what they'll do is allow you to push together and easily connect and disconnect an electric winch on your vehicle. The set does include these 2 connectors, the 4 terminals here and the dust cover with the wire tether attached. These connectors when using these terminals will have a 350 amp rating, based on continuous duty. They are designed to be used with a 1 aught gauge wire size. The connector housing itself right here that the terminals go into is made of a poly-carbonate material for strength and durability.

The terminals themselves are a high grade copper terminal and they have a silver zinc plating on them for corrosion protection. Again, the included terminals in this set are designed to be used with the 1 aught gauge wire size. It also includes this nice 1 piece dust cover with the wire tether. What that's used for is when you disconnect this, like if you take your winch off your vehicle, and you disconnect it, you remove the winch you'll still have this connector with the terminal showing on your vehicle, you can just take this dust cover, slide it right into place, just like that, and it will fully protect the terminals from any of the elements, and it has a nice wire tether attached to it that you attach to your vehicle so that when you remove the dust cover it will stay attached to the vehicle. This part is compatible with other common industry connectors, also if you'd like, if you do have a different wire size that you'd like to use this for, we do sell replacement terminals for these connectors. They're sold separately on our website that have a unique wire gauge for your application. Basically just to show you quickly how these would install, what you do is you'll have wires coming from your winch, a positive and a negative, that you attach to one connector and then the power from your vehicle, positive and negative, you have for the other connector.

You get those wires and you'll take your 2 connectors. You'll strip your wires, slide it in here, either crimp it or solder, whichever you prefer, and then your connectors will actually slide into here, and there will be showing here, I'm going to show you how to do that. The way you'll do that, just make sure it's marked positive and negative, so you want to make sure you put the correct wire in the correct location. With your positive wiring here with the hook facing down you just insert it like that, push it all the way in, and when you push it in far enough you'll hear it lock into place. This will be your negative connected to your negative wire, same way with the hook down, put it in this side, push it all the way through and there's your connectors just like that on your winch. Then you'll go to your vehicle side with your power, take your positive and negative wires, connect it to the terminals, same way with the hook being down, just put that in there, push it all the way in until it clips into place just like that. Same way, match up the positive wire, push that all the way until it clips and then your connectors are ready to go and then what you can do is take your winch, push it just like that, and there you got your connection for your electric power.

If you remove your winch from your vehicle, it's easy disconnect also, just pull them apart. Again with this being on the vehicle if the winch isn't on there just put your connector, or your dust cover right over your terminals to protect it. Simple as that. One last thing I want to show you, pull off the dust cover. If by chance these clip into place, if by chance one of the wires you actually put in the wrong location, you're like "Oh my gosh, I need to change it over" it's pretty easy to do. You just take a screwdriver and there's a clip that these terminals clip on to, you just push that clip open, just like that, and you'll see the terminal will fall right out.

You'll do the same if you need to switch out the other one. Push that spring clip, the terminal will fall right out. Pretty easy to do. That should do it for the review on part number BDW20172 the Bulldog electrical quick connect set for electric winches. .

  • Will 350-Amp Bulldog Winch Quick-Connect Work With 175-Amp Quick-Connect
If the winch you are using has a 360 amp power draw I recommend using the heavier-duty quick-connect set. I called my contact at Bulldog and they told me that the correct quick connect kit for your winch with that 360-amp draw is part # BDW20172. This will work with 2 gauge wire and would handle the winch power draw you said you have. The connectors included with # BDW20172 are larger and are not compatible with the connectors you have with the # BDW20018 kit. The # BDW20169 has 2...

  • What Quick Connects Do I Need to Install Quick Connect On My Bulldog Winch
It sounds like you're looking for the quick disconnect that goes on the cables of your winch. If you've got a Bulldog winch you can use the Bulldog Winch Quick-Connect Set for Powersports w/Dust Cover - 6 AWG # BDW20047 if your winch has 6 gauge wires; if your winch has 1/0 gauge wires you'll want to use # BDW20172. Using one of these two parts will allow you to put the quick disconnect ends on your Bulldog winch. Once you've installed these on your winch, you'll be able to use the Bulldog...

  • Recommended Wiring Size Kit for Trailer Winch Powered From Vehicle
I do have an option for you but 10 gauge wire is way too small for a winch, especially when you factor in the length of wire from the battery to the bumper. I recommend 1 gauge like what comes with the Bulldog Winch Rear Wiring Kit part # BDW20347. If you want to use your own wire you can purchase the Bulldog Winch Quick-Connect Set part # BDW20172.

  • Will the Bulldog Winch Quick-Connect Set BDW20172 fit 1/0 Gauge Wire
Yes, the Bulldog Winch Quick-Connect Set # BDW20172 that you referenced comes with terminals that can attach to 1/0 gauge wire like what you have. For a ring terminal with a 3/8 inch hole that fits 2/0 gauge wire (which is .04 inch thicker than 1/0) you would want the part # SWC57048Z.

  • Will Bulldog Winch Quick-Connect Set # BDW20172 Work with a Champion 2K Winch
Bulldog Winch Quick-Connect Set # BDW20172 is designed to accept 1/0 gauge wire and can be used with your Champion winch if you wanted. The connectors do not come with any wiring or cable. On your 2009 Ford F-150 if you are talking about the trailer connector at the back then no, these connectors do not plug into it. I have included a link to our help article on various ways to wire an electric winch. Several of the methods show the use of this type of connector.
