Video Transcript for Bulldog Winch Wiring Kit Installation - 2004 Ford F-250

On this 2004 Ford F-250 super duty, we're going to review and install the bulldog wiring kit, part number BDW20207. First of, all hand cover the parts that come with this part number. This is our main wire harness right here, which is constructive of two gauge material and its overall length, is going to be 24 foot long. We'll take a look at the ends. First of, for your typical assessor, which should be the winch that goes on here. This is going to be ride towards the back of a truck. Comes with a cap, to cover up when it's not being used.

Also there's a little lanyard, so don't lose it, you can attach it to somewhere on the vehicle. On the other end of our wires, these is ground one. It's got all seal that ends on it. Our negative wire, here, it's intended to be installed on the negative side of the battery. Here's our red one that goes to the positive side of the battery and the same style construction. For your accessory or plug into it, comes with it's own plug and some logs to get crypt on to two gauge wire as well. This also comes from some heavy zip ties, to help it secure it to the vehicle.

To start off our install, I'm going to take this end of our wire harness and I'll route down behind battery, down towards the frame. I'm going to go through this opening right through here. We should be close to the inaudible 00:01:20 liner when guided from there, once we get down to that point. Once we have it through our opening, we'll go ahead and pull all the slack through and make one ground connection to our battery. We'll go ahead and make a connection to the negative side of the battery. We'll go ahead and loosen up the nut here, and we'll go right ahead and remove it.

Right, what I'm taking a wire and add it to our negative side of our battery. Now of course this is going to be a bit of sloppy fit, so I'm going to use the number ten washer on my bolt, to help give it some grip on the cable when we reinstall the nut. Now, I like to leave my positives, terminal as one of the last things I connect up. Let's leave this alone for now, we'll go back underneath the truck and route our wire to the back. Now we'll run a wire back, we'll make sure we stay away from anything moving like suspension components or anything hot like the exhaust. We'll go ahead and run ours long the frame as best we can and out towards the bumper. Now we'll go ahead and show you how we routed our wires.

Basically, we tried to follow the top of the frame rail as this is possible. Around this body mount right here, where it will rest on the frame, go along through here. We used some zip ties that came with the kit, to help hold it in place. We've basically used the existing holes in the frame and went along the side of it. We got over by the axle a bit, we had to run over the top of the frame and then start running inside the frame and let the cross numbers hold the wire up for us. Now you know, so we have some extra wire. We place some simple loops in there, zip tie it together and by this time we we're out of large zip ties, so we went back to some small zip ties. Held everything up against the inside edge of the bumper. There we have a wire harness right here. Now our kit does not come with a bracket or anything to hold in place, so, you could leave it like this, where the cover will be fine or, you can advocate your own bracket for it. If you choose to mount up to a bracket, or something from this vehicle, it does have holes built in for that purpose as well. Now we'll install our cap, we're in between the two wires and back over itself this way. That way your cap always stays with it. If we're wiring around, we'll go ahead and move to the front of the truck and hook up a positive cable. We'll use this pre-existing stud right here. We'll go ahead and remove the nut, using a ten millimeter socket. With this time, instead of using the extra washer on here, we just used to use a smaller ring of familiar wires stacked on top and let that do the work for us. Then we'll clump it down when we re-install the nut. This goes to the back of the truck one more time and we'll go ahead and use the tester to verify if we have power going back. We use our tester on it, even labelled negative, so we'll put our ground clamp there and we'll check the other side. Now you have power going back to it and inaudible 00:05:03 ad on our own accessory. Now we've verified power's going through our cable. I think we're good to go. L-Fisher for part number BDW20207. The bulldog wiring kit, on this 2004 Ford F-250 super duty.

Great-5-no problems since going on truck battery’s power

Great product, worked perfectly. I installed a winch on my car hauler trailer with a tip up bed. The 24' wiring kit was the perfect length. I have a 4 door/ long bed truck and with the trailer bed tipped up the extra length was perfect to connect to the winch. The plug for the winch side was easily soldered onto my winch leads. Very happy with the product all around.

After a temporary "fubar" with my order, it finally arrived. I couldn't be happier with the quality & design of this kit. VERY well built. And the installation video was perfect for a DIY'r like me. Thank U etrailer. U guys really came through!!!

by:

Hi quality product, better than I expected. Also reasonably priced. It will be a quality accessory added to the vehicle and be interchangeable to the next vehicle I purchase. Thanks etrailer for making my shopping easier. AND Talk about quick service and delivery all 5 Star for me. I purchased both front and rear hook ups for my winch or other things that will need power and they are both just what the doctor ordered.

by:

Best service! And prices also. Never going back to amazon if I can buy it from etrailer.

  • Wiring Needed to Power Dump Trailer Directly From Truck Battery
It sounds to me like you are wanting to power the dump trailer directly from your trucks battery. If this is the case you will want to start by making sure that the power draw for the lift would not overload the truck. If all looks good, you could use part # BDW20207 which is typically used to wire electric winches but would also work for this type of set-up. The trailer and vehicle wiring kit includes 24 feet of 2 gauge double wire with quick connections. I've attached a video to assist. If...

  • Can 12k Winch Ground to Frame or Does it have to Run to Battery Post
This is a really great question that we debated here not that long ago actually. A lot of people have done it both ways and it seems to be fine for most people to ground through the frame. But on higher drawing winches like what you have it's best to run the wire (I know it's expensive) back to the negative post of the battery. One way to get a good idea if you can go to the frame is to compare the thickness of the winch's ground wire and the thickness of the ground strap ran from your...

  • Correct Way To Wire Warn Trailer Winch Up to Be Powered By Truck Battery
Yes, I can guide you through the correct way to power your Warn 4000 lb winch by your vehicles battery. You will need to use the item you selected, Trailer and Vehicle Electric Winch Wiring Kit, part # BDW20207, which uses quick disconnects. You can use the Tow Ready Battery Isolation Solenoid, part # TR118665, in-line with the positive battery cable to keep from draining power from the vehicle battery. Hooking up the winch with part # TR118665, would only allow the winch to be used when...

  • What Size Wiring Is Included In The Bulldog Winch Rear Wiring Kit # BDW20207?
The Bulldog Winch Rear Wiring Kit # BDW20207 includes 24' of 2AWG wire. I recommend contacting Warn to verify how many amps your winch will pull under full load to ensure you will be able to use this wiring kit. This cable is going to be rated for use up to roughly 75 amps of 12 volt power.

  • What Type Of Wire Should I Use to Run My 16,500 Pound Winch
For your 16,500 pound winch I recommend going with the 2 gauge wire Bulldog winch rear wiring kit # BDW20207. It can handle up to 16,500 pound capacity, and it is 24 feet long. I've linked a video review of this kit for you to look at.

  • Can The Anderson 175 Amp Disconnects In Kit BDW20207, Handle The Power Of A Bulldog Winch
I spoke to someone at Bulldog Winch and they said the reason the Anderson 175 amp disconnects can work in the Bulldog Winch Rear Wiring Kit, part # BDW20207, is because a winch is used intermittently. He said while the winch can draw up to 400 amps, on average you will only draw around 200 amps. He did acknowledge if you used your winch at full power for an extended period of time, the disconnects would be an issue. But most people will not use their winch in this manner. I have included...

  • Will Trailer and Vehicle Electric Winch Wiring Kit, # BDW20207, fit a 2008 Toyota Tundra
Trailer and Vehicle Electric Winch Wiring Kit, # BDW20207, is designed to work on a vehicle with a trailer mounted winch. But you could use it if the winch is mounted at the front or rear of the truck, just not both at the same time without an additional kit. I have included a link to a video showing a typical installation for you. I have also included a link to our FAQ article that covers different ways to wire an electric winch.

  • Does Winch Vehicle Wiring Kit # BDW20207 Not Connected to Winch Drain Vehicle Battery
Having a winch wiring kit like the part # BDW20207 installed on a truck would not drain the battery at all. There would need to be something connected to the wires that draws current for the battery to drain. So if you installed this kit and didn't have a winch wired up this wouldn't cause your battery to drain.

  • Recommended Way to Actually Charge Dump Trailers Battery While Towed
To put a decent amount of a charge on a dump trailer's battery you would need to run a pretty heavy gauge wire from the vehicle alternator back to the battery of the trailer. You could use part # BDW20207 which is typically used to wire electric winches but would also work for this type of set-up. The trailer and vehicle wiring kit includes 24 feet of 2 gauge double wire and the quick connectors. If the wire was any smaller than what comes with this kit you would end up not being able...

  • Preferred Trailer Winch Wiring Ground Location
You are correct that grounding the wiring for a trailer winch like the Bulldog Winch Rear Wiring Kit # BDW20207 does not need to be run all the way to the battery in order to ground but it is often the most secure. Running the ground the entire length of the vehicle should provide a more constistent connection. We see often electrical troubleshooting issues are caused by poor ground connections often due to corrosion, stacked rings, etc. and terminating to the frame increases the chance...

  • Does Bulldog Winch Rear Wiring Kit # BDW20207 Come with Power Interrupt Circuit
The Bulldog Winch Rear Wiring Kit # BDW20207 that you referenced does not come with a power interrupt solenoid. Warn might have their kits designed different from Bulldog due to different winch designs but for the winches this kit fits it's not needed.

  • Is a Circuit Breaker Needed Between the Winch and Vehicle Battery on 2014 Ram 3500
The winch will have circuit breakers built into it to prevent over draw on the vehicle battery. If using a winch that does not have its own built-in circuit breakers then you could install your own in line between the winch and the battery. The circuit breaker you would use is going to depend on the power draw of the winch being used. I have included a link to all of the circuit breakers we carry.

When you use the power wire on the harness at the rear of your 2012 Ford F-150, you may have some issues with it blowing fuses when you turn the diesel fuel vault pump on. Many times a pump or other accessories will have a power surge and that is too much for the harness designed for a trailer connection. While it most likely would work, the Trailer and Vehicle Electric Winch Wiring Kit # BDW20207 has never been tested on your Badlands 12,000 winch so I could not say with 100 percent certainty if it would work for you. If your winch can be powered with 2 AWG wire then most likely this kit would be adequate for your winch as this winch is confirmed to work on Superwinch winches up to 16.5k in capacity.

  • Could Winch Wiring Kit be Used to Charge Dump Trailer Battery
To actually put a decent charge on your battery throughout the day the answer is a heavier gauge charge wire like what the part # BDW20207 has. This will carry enough amperage to put a solid charge on the battery between dumps. Normally this kit is used to power a winch but in your case it would work well. I would run this to the battery and not the pump. If I were you I wouldn't want the alternator of my vehicle powering a dump trailer. So running this to the battery allows the battery...
