Video Transcript for Fulton Sidewind Fixed-Mount Marine Jack Review

Today we're going to be taking a look at the Fulton Fixed-Mount Marine Jack on the Sidewind to configuration with a 1,200 pound lifting capacity, part number is TJ12220301. The Fulton Jack is great for both recreational and marine use. They've use the Z-Max 600 zinc coating on this which gives a superior corrosion resistance. It's rated all the up to 600 hours worth of salt spray. As you can see it's a heavy-duty steel construction. It's got a large 360 caster down on the bottom that holds our 8-inch diameter wheel.

As you can see it's a nice wide wheel too, so we're going to have less of an opportunity for that to dig into whatever we might be rolling it around on. Here on the rear of the jack they've got a service quarter, what they call a grease insert. Connect your grease gun on there, pump some grease in. We'll run our jack all the way up and all the way down, and we can service this for many years to come. As you can see with the sidewind design that they've incorporated here. This requires a lot less room to operate than what the old standard topwind would.

The topwind they tend to get in there and they want to make impact with your boat, the sidewind design requires very little clearance to get you jack in operation. This jack offers many different mounting locations which is really going to help us whether we're going on to a 3 or 4 or 5-inch inside a trailer or a frame rail trailer. As you can see, we've got several to choose from. To install our jack, we just going to bring our plate in. I've already put the bolts in it, that makes it a little bit easier. We'll bring those around the rail and then select the holes that we want to mounted into.

As you can see with our 4-inch trailer here, we're going to have 2 options on where we can mount it. If you're using a 3-inch trailer, you'll have 3 and then if we're using a 5 it's going to be pretty much fixed into just 1 location. Just slide that on and we wanted to use a couple of our nuts and just thread this on, of course, just loosely for now, just to help hold our jack in place for us and we'll do the same thing with our second bracket. Now when you install it, you do want the flat part to be flushed up against the trailer, so your bolt will be setting down into the U. Now with those install loosely, we'll begin tightening it down. Now that we've got those nice and snugged and our brackets are sitting flushly up against our frame, all we've got to do now is get them torque down.

Now you want to refer to your instruction manual and it will give you your torque specification, and just be sure to do it on all 4 bolts. Just like that our jack is installed and it's ready for use. Now that we've got the jack installed, let's go over a couple measurements so you know what kind of clearances that you're going to need. We've currently have our jack fully retracted and pulled up in. I'm going to measure from the top of our trailer to the bottom of the wheel to give you an idea of what kind of ground clearance we're going to need. That's going to be about 11-3/4 inches. Now let's measure from the top of our mounting location and of course you can see we're in that top mounting hole to the top of the jack. That's going to be about 18-1/4 inches and then I want to rotate the handle up, so you know how much clearance you need if your valves are going to be coming out to get to the top of that handle. That's going to be about 23 inches, so be sure you have those clearances you need to ensure that the jacks are going to work properly for you. As you can see one of the great things about this jack, while your wheel is a full 360 caster style. As you're lowering it, it's not like the older style jacks where it's just going to keep turning and turning and turning and you got to hold your foot on it to keep it into position. You've got a nice groove right here that helps to maintain the inner tube of the jack in the right position. You can see it doesn't require a lot of effort. Of course, it would require a little bit more if we have a boat on our trailer. When you got a good torque here, you've got good torque here with the longer handle and the free-spinning knob that we're going to hold on to. With our jack into fully extended position, we're going to have about 25-3/4 of an inch from the top frame rail of our trailer to the bottom of our wheel. That give us a total lift of about 15 inches. That will complete today's look of the Fulton Fixed-Mount Sidewind Jack with the 1,200 pound capacity, part number TJ12220301. .

It looks like it will accomplish all I had hoped for. I needed to lower the trailer tongue more than my previous jack would allow to achieve a level position. It does that with ease! It will be field tested today. It seems solid and corrosion resistant as described. The same Jack was described on Amazon as having silver paint instead of the 600 hour salt spray testing. You guys were $[XX] cheaper also!! I am pleased.

by:

Just so others know, you only get the jack with the welded bracket on the jack. You do not get the bolts and two other brackets for the other side of the trailer. I was luckily able to use the brackets and old bolts/nuts from my old jack. The jack works great!

The jack still works fine! No problems at all.

by:

I needed a jack with the mounts low to the ground to accommodate my small boat/trailer. The jack is really well made, very solid on the trailer. Delivery was quick, great communication from etrailer along the way. Even showed up a day before the target delivery date!

After one year the product has performed well. No rust or corrosion, the mechanism cranks smoothly. Most important is it met the need of being able to mountdismount the trailer to a low hitch on the vehicle.

Product as ordered, fast shipping and great communication. We have used this company before and will continue to buy here!

Trailer jack still great after a year using in saltwater and again, will use this company again for trailer parts!

by:

Mounted this onto my log splitter as it has a very low drop, my ball is about 8 in off the ground and this will get it there. hopefully it will hold up over time but it's going to do the job so I don't have to lift my log splitter anymore. I did not need a swivel unit I needed one that would go lower and this seemed like it was the lowest one available.

After a year Im still happy with the purchase and my lower back is particularly happy!!! Solid investment.

by:

Exact replacement for my existing Fulton boat trailer jack which has finally rusted away after 23 years. Service from etrailer is always good. Cardboard boxes are treated rather poorly by the shipping companies and some previous orders were received with shipping damage.

by:

I ordered this jack to replace the identical jack that came with the new trailer. This jack is a great option if you have a short tongue that won't accommodate a swivel jack. I also wanted to avoid the process of permanently welding a jack to my trailer. Swapping out the jack took literally a few minutes.

If you are using this jack in saltwater, you will need to take care to rinse the wheel thoroughly even though it never gets in the water. I did not always completely rinse down the jack and eventually my wheel got stuck in place. The bolt that held the weld was corroded to frame of the jack. Neither a torch or an electric saw could get the bolt off.

I would highly recommend using etrailer.com. A major marine store wanted 7-10 days to special order this jack. Etrailer shipped it to me for free and I received in five days. Even better, etrailer wanted $20 less for the jack. Can't beat that.

by:

I was looking for a fixed mount trailer jack and came across this one at etrailer.com. From the time i ordered it and the time it arrived was just over two days. The product was just as described and fit perfect! I would highly suggest etrailer.com to anyone with trailer needs.

This trailer jack has been perfect for the application. For my utility trailer I could not use a swivel jack due to space. This Fulton jack works great is very sturdy, and easy to use. I would recommend to anyone wanting a non swivel type jack.

Great! And I even like the lever ball hitch better than the screw down.

Jack still works fine. Thanks for the follow up.

by:

I needed a replacement tongue jack for my trailered fish house. I shopped at 6 different stores before I went online and with one input I found the jack I could use for the fish house. I needed a jack that was a low profile so I could lower the tongue onto the ice and then lower the wheels down onto the ice as well. I was able to achieve this with the low profile mount and just removing the wheel and adapting a plate to replace the wheel. The assembly works great and I can operate the whole process with ease. Thank you for having a large variety of quality products at a competitive price. Sorry I was unable to send a photo.

by:

This jack was exactly what I was looking for and should work just fine. I needed a non-swivel because there is not enough room on my trailer tongue to swivel a jack.
My original jack had an 800lb rating. This one is 1200lb and much stouter.

by:

This is a great and robust jack being used on my boat trailer. I've used an identical (same type) jack for 18 years without any problem, but it was bent when being hit by a truck so I was glad to see I could still get the exact same type.

by:

I expected to get mounting hardware but my old rusty hardware worked

by:

Trailer,Wheel and Frame damaged my boat trailer jack while performing other repairs on the trailer. I purchased a new one from etrailer.com and the jack was exactly what was on the trailer previously! They shipped it to me immediatly and the service was outstanding. I would do business with them anytime

by:

Service from etrailer was fast....Jack stand arrived within 2 days of my order. The jack stand is exactly what I needed for my trailer and it came at a reasonable price.

by:

This trailer jack is being used to replace another Fulton jack that was damaged. The old jack was 18 years old and was still going strong. The replacement Jack that I ordered was similar but looked more substantial that the original. The price was reasonable and the jack arrived in a timely manner despite the Christmas rush.

by:

I looked everywhere for a replacement jack exactly like the one that came on my trailer. This was the only place that carried the jack. Thanks etrailer.com! This jack is worth it's price in quality and performance.

by:

This is the same high-quality jack that originally came mounted on my Trailex CT-8045 trailer. I think this is also the only jack that fits my trailer.

by:

I needed eight non-typical heavy duty marine jacks for a special application. E-trailer had the item I needed, a good price, full quantity to fill the order, very helpful, and extremely prompt in delivery. I looked over the website and they have a great selection of typical and more unique items.

by:

Excellent product! This specific model cranks high enough to allow water to drain out of the back of the boat... on an opposite grade slope... so really high angle is needed.

by:

Just installed this trailer jack last night and so far so good. It looks to be well built and plenty sturdy for my needs. The order process was also very easy and very fast delivery. I would definitely recommend doing business with these folks, as I'm sure I will be again.

  • Recommended Side Frame Mount Trailer Jack for Cycle Trailer
For your small cycle trailer, I recommend looking at the Fulton Fixed-Mount Jack # TJ12220301. This is a very nice side frame mount jack that will be your best option for what you are needing. This jack features 15 inches of lift and can be clamped around the trailer frame with the included hardware. The sidewind handle will be great for your limited clearance and the steel caster wheel will allow you to move the trailer around. You will just want to make sure the 1,200 pound lift capacity...

Rack and gear jacks like # BD169201 can get low with a bracket height when retracted of only 8 inches. But rack and gear jacks are low capacity, 750 pounds, and do not swivel. Another low option is Fulton fixed jack # TJ12220301 which can actually get lower than even a rack and gear jack. This jack measures a mere 9 inches from the center of the mounting bracket to the bottom of the wheel. But it does not swivel. The lowest I can get on a swivel jack with a wheel is 12-3/4 inches like...

  • How Much Lift Does Fulton TJ12220301 Trailer Jack Provide
The lift of a trailer jack is the height difference between it's retracted length and its length when fully extended. When fully retracted, the mounting bracket of the jack will sit about 9 inches above the bottom of the caster wheel. When fully extended, the bracket will be about 24 inches above the bottom of the caster wheel, so it'll work just fine for a trailer ball height of 15 inches. • Can A Swivel Jack Be Used On the Side Of An A-Frame Boat Trailer
The ideal placement of a tongue jack on an a-frame trailer is indeed as close to the trailer coupler as possible. That said, there are others with the very same issue you have and they use a swivel mount jack on the a-frame portion just a bit further away from the tongue without issue. Personally, I would use the Fulton Fixed-Mount Marine Jack part # TJ12220301 on the straight portion of the tongue as it appears you have enough room for this but a swivel mount jack like the Fulton Round,...

The easiest solution is to replace your broken jack with something like the Fulton # FTJ120W0301. All of the other styles of jacks require cutting off the existing flange and bolting around or through the frame to attach with U-bolts. I can't say that I recommend drilling another hole in the jack tube since it's going to further weaken the steel tubing the more holes are drilled in it, but you may be able to make the Replacement Caster Wheel for Ultra-Fab Manual 2" Trailer Jack # UF49-954035 as it has a 1-3/4" diameter to connect to the 2" tube on your jack.
