Note: This adapter is designed to flat tow a vehicle only. Do not use to tow a trailer. When using with a hitch-mounted accessory, such as a bike rack or cargo carrier, the tongue weight of your hitch will be reduced by at least 50 percent.

Most tow systems require some sort of hitch accessory to either raise or lower the tow bar to an appropriate level. The "Safe Zone" for a motor-home-mounted tow bar ranges from 3" above level to 3" below. Car-mounted models must be absolutely level. This high-low adapter can provide you with the necessary drop or desired rise to achieve a level tow bar setup.

Works like a charm! I bought an entire toad tow package kit wiring, breaking system tow bar, base plates everything ! My ranger all the way to Mount Rushmore last year and everything worked great! The trailer support was excellent whilst I was installing everything! Multiple calls to tech-support got me through and made for a successful install. I would not hesitate to buy From them again!

by:

Created a nice level towing setup for my 2018 Chevrolet Colorado behind my 2023 Entegra Esteem Class C motorhome.

by:

I needed the Roadmaster high-low adapter to drop my tow point down so my tow bar was level between my Motorhome and my Chevy Colorado. It works as advertised and even with the weight of the truck pulling on the drop of the bar it is solid enough I feel very confident that I will be able to tow for many carefree miles.

by:

Simple to install and absolutely needed to keep the tow bar within 3" of the hitch height. Plus when I went over a steep driveway in my 30' Winnebago Vista, I was concerned that this may bottom out - but instead, there was a frame rail under the RV that scraped instead. This unit was well clear. If you find yourself in a situation where this could scrape the ground, it is easy just to put the brake on in the car and pull the release pin on the this unit. Then, reconnect later.

400 pound TW. We carry two e-bikes on the back of our coach and needed to raise the bike rack. Strong and perfect fit.

by:

Works perfect for ensuring tow bar is l evel.

by:

The 6" drop hitch was just what I needed to level my tow bar between my (Georgetown) RV and (Jeep Wrangler Unlimited Sahara) towed vehicle.

It is a very strong, solid piece. Just completed a round trip between 700 mile round-trip with no problems.

The run-through of the unit dimensions in your video really helped to ensure the unit was the right fit for my RV receiver and tow bar.

Solid chunk of metal. No problems. Need to keep areas that rub treated for rust, but thats expected.

by:

etrailer has great products that you can trust. I’ve purchased from them multiple times and have always been pleased with the experience.

by:

My motorhome was to high to tow my Jeep so I needed this hitch adapter to bring the tow bar inline with my vehicle.

I sold my vehicle and purchased a new jeep and no longer utilize the adapter. I purchased a new roadmaster tow bracket from u and so far its fine.

by:

Worked great to level the tow bar out between our lifted Jeep and the RV. Very stout and glad we went with heavier duty unit

by:

The product works as described. There is one problem in compatibility with a Blue Ox tow bar. The pin holes in the receiver are pressed rather than drilled. This process decreases the inner receptacle size and it has to be increased by manually filing the inside of the tow bar receiver. Structurally well made.

by:

I installed a TorkLift Eco Hitch on the front of my F250. It sits higher than most front hitches. I need this drop receiver to lower my motorcycle below my line of sight! VERY heavy duty!

by:

I needed this high/low hitch receiver to bring the hitch up to level to pull my jeep behind my RV. It works excellent, very happy with it one year later!

by:

Just what you need if your 4 wheel drive pickup is too high. I use it to get my wheel chair ramp close enough to the ground to use.
Very well made.

Thanks for the feedback, but did want to let you know that this adapter is intended for flat towing a vehicle only. IF you are needing a significant drop ball mount you might consider the Gen-Y line of ballmounts. For example the # 325-GH-515 might be a good option since it does provide a 10 inch drop, and may still allow you to use your existing ball mount.

by:

I bought this drop hitch because I carry a motorcycle sideways on a rack behind my SUV. The SUV sits high so pushing the motorcycle up the ramp is difficult and lowering that rack makes loading and unloading easier and safer. The SUV also has the spare tire on the rear door and this drop hitch moves the rack out about two inches giving me more room for the bike. The big thing about this drop hitch is it’s strength. My bike weighs 350 pounds this hitch is rated at 400 pounds but it can probably handle much more than the class III hitch itself.

by:

Purchased for bike rack , I am handicapped and this adapter will lower it and make it easier to load my three wheeled bike This company is awesome to deal with Thank You

Please keep in mind that using this or any hitch adapter or extender will lower the towing and tongue weight capacity of your hitch by half.

by:

works great, it is the right drop for the toad car so it pulls level. I have seen some toads being pulled and the hitch receiver is to high so the front of the car is being pulled at an upward angle, which is not a good idea.

by:

I recently purchased the 6" hitch extension from e-trailer... which fit perfect thanks to the wonderful help I received from Debora H. Without her help and all the time she spent with me on the phone I would have purchased the wrong one...again. I appreciate all her help, she saved me from another frustrating purchase and return. The hitch extension she recommended fit perfect for my application and was less expensive than the one I was originally looking at. Thank you again for your help.

by:

Received the product in excellent time. It is just what we needed and were very pleased that we could get the drop hitch made by Roadmaster as it will match the tow bar that we have on out motorhome and tow vehicle.

by:

Exactly what we needed.

by:

I had a hitch place on my 2008 Toyota Sienna. The only problem is I would have to make major adjustment to hook up my daughter wheel chair lift. Uhaul told me to search online for a high low hitch. Thank God it lead me to etrailer which had several differ kind. The pack arrive quickly and the product is outstanding. This save me at least $2000.00 worth of work. Thanks etrailer, you are the best with the lowest prices as well.

by:

Very well built and finished. I'm using this hitch adapter to level my tow bar while flat towing my jeep. It works perfect.

by:

Very good, heavy construction. Pin hole for the MH reciever should be a couple inches farther back.

by:

This high-low hutch adapter was exactly what I needed for The proper height to tow my dinghy/car. Very well-made & no worries about being able to handle the weight. My tow vehicle is a 2017 Ford F150.

by:

Everything I have bought from etrailer has been of the highest quality and they have the fastest shipping I have received. I had to raise my hitch to keep my tow bar level while towing my Ram 2500 behind my motorhome
The videos on “how to” are super.
Thanks again

  • 6 inch High Low Adapter Recommendation for Leveling Blue Ox Aventa LX Tow Bar
The Roadmaster High-Low Adapter for Tow Bars # RM-048-6 that you referenced would work perfectly for you if you are in need of a 6 inch rise or drop to level your tow bar. As long as you have a 2 inch hitch on your RV this is going to work. But in the unlikely case it wouldn't I attached a link to our return policy page.

  • High Low Adapter for a Vehicle Hitch that Sits 5 inches Higher than Level
I would go with the 6 inch Roadmaster High-Low Adapter part # RM-048-6. Being an inch off either way would not be a big deal, but I would rather have your tow vehicle pulling slightly up than down as down usually wears tires and suspension components on towed vehicles.

  • Flat Towing a 2013 Ford Edge Level with a 2005 Holiday Rambler Admiral
Since the height difference between your Holiday Rambler and the 2013 Ford Edge is 6 inches, the Roadmaster high-low adapter # RM-048-6 would be a great fit. To be sure, make sure you are measuring from the ground to the center of the base plate attachment points on the Ford Edge and from the ground to the top of the receiver opening on the motor home. If you determine that you do need a different size adapter I have linked all of the high-low adapters we carry. Most tow bars can be off-level...

  • High - Low Adapter for a 1-1/4 Inch Hitch Opening
No, I am sorry, but this will not work. First, the RM-048-6 is for towing a vehicle behind a motor home. Every time you add either an adapter or an extender, you reduce your tongue weight by 50 percent. You would need to add both, and with a Class I hitch, the weight of the bike rack, adapter, and extender would be too much for the vehicle. We do offer some great bike racks which are made to attach directly to the vehicle. We also have some 2 bike racks which will fit your 1 1/4 inch...

  • How Long is Roadmaster High-Low Hitch Adapter RM-048-6 From Pin Hole to Back of Receiver Opening
I checked with my contact at Roadmaster, and the High-Low hitch adapter # RM-048-6 measures approximately 5 inches from the center of the hitch pin hole to the angle bracket, which would be the first point that would risk coming in contact with a bumper or other structure. The adapter measures 10.38 inches from the center of the pin hole on the shank to the center of the pin hole on the 2 inch receiver.

  • Should a Tow Bar Sit Level Between the Towed Vehicle and the RV When Ready to Tow
Having your tow bar as level as possible is the best way to have it set up. Because of that you would want the 6 inch drop adapter. I have spoken to tow bar manufacturers and they say one of the key factors in how long a tow bar will last is how close to being level it was used. We recommend that the entire set up be no more than 3 inches above or below level. The 6 inch Roadmaster adapter # RM-048-6 will work well for you.

  • Do You have a Specification or drawing Sheet on the 6 inch High-Low Hitch Adapter
You can use a Hi-Low Hitch to level the RV hitch to the tow bar. These hitches have a solid-steel shank, allowing a 10,000-pound capacity and 400-pound tongue weight. I do not have a dimensional drawing at this time but I did go out to our warehouse and measure the part for you and from the center of the receiver pin hole to the center of the adapter pin hole is 12 inches. From the center of the receiver pin hole to the start of the welded gusset is 6 inches. The Roadmaster 6" High -...

  • Can the Roadmaster High-Low Hitch Adapter, # RM-048-6 be Used to Tow a Trailer
You are correct. The Roadmaster High-Low Hitch Adapter, # RM-048-6, is rated to be used with tow bars for flat towing behind a motor home and not for weight carrying applications or trailer towing. The use of any adapter, including this one, will reduce the tongue weight capacity of the hitch by 50 percent. Since tow bars and flat towing physically function differently than towing a trailer or carrying a bike rack, the Roadmaster High-Low was not designed for the latter application. If...

According to the folks at Roadmaster, the High-Low adapter you referenced, part # RM-048-6 could be used for the purpose you describe as long as its 10,000 straight pull and 400 lb tongue weight (max downward force that can safely be applied) capacities aren't exceeded. However, when winching, you're rarely going to have the load applied in a straight line to the receiver. For this reason, I don't recommend using a high-low adapter with a winch. Roadmaster High-Low Adapter for Tow Bars - 2" Hitches - 6" Rise/Drop - 10K GTW, 400 lbs TW Item # RM-048-6 is designed to flat tow a vehicle only and is not rated for use for towing a trailer so I cannot recommend it. In the past, Roadmaster did NOT recommend using the High-Low adapters for anything other than flat towing a vehicle, as they had never tested it for such a purpose. They're now saying the adapter can be used on hitch accessories, as long as its 400 lb tongue weight and 10,000 lb towing capacity isn't exceeded. • High/Low Hitch Adapter with 6-Inches of Rise for Use with Hitch Cargo Carrier
Use of a hitch adapter like Roadmaster # RM-048-6, which offers 6-inches of rise, will have the effect of reducing your hitch's capacity by 50-percent. This results from the change in geometry - the load being further away from the hitch - and is a common side-effect of hitch adapters. If you use this adapter your hitch capacity will be 250-lbs, and after you account for the 70-lb weight of the carrier you will then have an actual cargo weight capacity of 180-lbs (250 - 70 = 180). This...

  • How to Choose High Low Adapter for Flat Towing
Thank you for providing those measurements. I'm assuming your 18" measurement was from the ground to the center point of the tabs/base plates where the tow bar attaches. If that is correct, you need a 5" drop for your high-low adapter. There are no adapters that match 5" but you can go with 4" or 6" since the safe zone is between 3" above level and 3" below level. This means that the # RM-048-6 you were looking at will work for your setup.

  • Does Hitch High-Low Adapter reduce both vehicle and hitch tongue weight?
When using a high-low adapter like # RM-048-6 with a cargo carrier, the hitch receiver tongue weight only is cut in half (reduced by 50%). For instance if your hitch is rated for 350 lbs tongue weight, then you would reduce that to 175 lbs and also subtract the weight of your cargo carrier. That would give you the carrying capacity of your combined components.

Based on your dimensions you'd need 7 inches for your tow bar to be totally level. So since there's only a 6 inch and an 8 inch high low adapter the better choice is to have the sitting slightly higher on the RV side. If a tow bar pulling down on the vehicle front suspension it can cause tire wear issues as well as suspension issues so slightly higher on the RV side is best.
