High/Low Hitch Adapter with 6-Inches of Rise for Use with Hitch Cargo Carrier

Question:

I need a hitch high-low adapter, at least 6”, to raise a 70lbs cargo carrier. What adapters are rated for more than 200lbs tongue weight and have the shortest distance from center of hitch pin hole to center of pin hole? The hitch on the car is rated for 500lbs tongue weight. I anticipate the max load on the carrier to be 75 lbs.

Use of a hitch adapter like Roadmaster # RM-048-6, which offers 6-inches of rise, will have the effect of reducing your hitch's capacity by 50-percent. This results from the change in geometry - the load being further away from the hitch - and is a common side-effect of hitch adapters.

If you use this adapter your hitch capacity will be 250-lbs, and after you account for the 70-lb weight of the carrier you will then have an actual cargo weight capacity of 180-lbs (250 - 70 = 180). This adapter measures 9-1/2-inches between hitch pin holes and it offers a 400-lb TW rating.
