Video Transcript for Curt 2 inch and 2-1/2 inch Hitch Lock Review

Today we're going to be taking a look at Curt's hitch lock for two-inch and two and a half-inch hitches. This hitch pin's going to be great for protecting your accessories. Most accessories don't come with locking pins and many don't even come with a pin at all. Well this way you can ensure that your gears going to stay safe and protected attached to your vehicle. The hitch pin attaches to the barrel style lock. It's a nice thick stainless steel, so it's going to be heavy duty and durable. Anybody that tries to take this off, is going to be spending way too much time out here that they're going to draw away too much attention and they're just going to hit the road.

On the end of the lock you have a watertight dust cap. This is going to keep out any moisture, dirt, and debris, ensuring a long lasting smooth operation of your lock.Once you insert your key, you can turn the key to unlock the barrel and it comes off. You'll see here on the inside that it has a rubber gasket that keeps any moisture, dirt and debris out of the inside of the tumbler as well, making it nice and smooth when putting it back on.With this particular style lock, you do have to unlock it first, then slide it on and then you can lock it again with the key. The hitch pin has a three and five-eighths inch span, which is going to be great for two and two and a half-inch hitches. This also includes your class three, four and class five hitches. When you're ready to install it, simply take the pin side, slide it through your hitch and whatever accessory you have in it.

Then you'll want to unlock the tumbler, slide it on and lock it down. You can finish by closing your dust cap. It's not only great for your accessories such as your cargo carriers and bike racks, but also for your ball mounts so you can keep those safe as well as your trailer that's attached to it.The pin comes with two keys for convenience. This way you can keep one with you and keep one at home for safekeeping. Many customers on our website compared Curt's hitch pin to Tow Ready's hitch pin and they both are three and a half-inch span hitch pins and they're both going to do pretty much the same job.One of the biggest differences though is that our Curt here is going to be stainless steel, so it's going to withstand the elements much better than just the chrome plated finish that the Tow Ready has.And that completes our look at Curt's hitch lock for two inch and two and a half-inch hitches.

Can’t speak for durability yet since I just received it but seems to be a quality product which I expect it to be. Fits perfect on a 2011 GMC 2500HD receiver hitch.

Still works great no problems at all.

Overall I am very pleased with my ETrailer experience. Everything was pretty straightforward and my products came within a reasonable timeframe. My only suggestion to ETrailer is maybe to package the expensive products in a outer box. The product that I ordered was on the pricy side of things and I came home to see my expensive product sitting infront of my driveway, open to anyone driving past it. A criminal or an opportunistic person who understood the value of that product would definitely pose a concern. Other than that, this is a fabulous online store.

Best way to protect your hitch from the ft.

by:

Very easy to use and the rubber cover most definitely keeps the moisture out of the locking mechanism.

by:

Could not get the hitch lock off. Had to use a crow bar & hammer. Then had to use a dremmel tool to modify stem at locking mechanism.

by:

Does the job but the mechanism doesn’t feel that solid and it’s a little difficult to lock and unlick

by:

The product did not fit the hitch it was recommended for. It only fit the receiver part and not where ball mounts to hitch.

by:

Product arrived quickly and works as advertised. Fits loosely for Ford F250 Receiver.

by:

Quality product.

by:

Extremely fast shipping and a real quality product.

by:

It's a great lock that seats perfectly.

by:

High quality product and works effortlessly. The stainless steel lock looks great attached to my trailer cover too!

by:

Always I am having a great experience. Never had a problem in any order in all these years. Super fast delivery, perfectly packaged and great communication. Thanks

by:

everything went together just like stat ed.

by:

Glad it is stainless steel. Easy to use and fits well in the hitch. Nice product.

by:

Very helpful customer service. Asked advice from the expert which was very helpful

by:

Just received / installed the lockable hitch pin... just what I expected... exactly as described. Happy so far with my purchase. If it stands up to our NE Pennsylvania Winter weather with the snow and salt used on the roads without rusting, I'll be absolutely thrilled!

Some rust and corrosion inside and out, difficulty unlocking it so I cleaned it and loaded it with lithium grease inside hoping to combat the moisture that gets in and causes the corrosion

by:

Do not purchase this product. I ordered it and it lasted maybe 4 months. I went to remove it to switch it out and it was corroded and wouldn’t unlock and beat it off with a hammer. Then I called etrailer to ask about a warranty or replacement and they informed me that they don’t have a warranty on this.

The key to prevent corrosion with aftermarket products are to lubricate them often and remove them when not in use. Here are some more tips about prevention:

Love my new hitch for my 2019 Toyota Rav Adventure. At first, I didn’t think it would slide between bumper and exhaust system, but it did. My wife helped hold one side while a car jack was used to lift hitch into position. I used a rubber mallet to get into position to install bolts. About a half hour later, hitch installed! Only concern was when delivered, the box was split open and the hitch was sliding out. Thankfully, no damage, bump step and locking pin were still inside box and hitch bolts were taped inside receiver, otherwise they would have been long gone!

by:

Had 3 items shipped to a fishery I was staying at on the Oregon coast. A bike rack, a bumper mount and a locking pin. The rack and the mount showed up as scheduled but the pin was lost in shipping. As it turns out the pin was not compatible with the Pro bike rack which I was told it was. I'm glad the other two pieces arrived and work fine and the pin is what got lost. etrailer is to refund the pin price and were very friendly about it.

by:

Seems good so far. Plenty of length and no rust yet. I would like to see Curt Mfg list a load or class limit somewhere. The reason I bought this one instead of the ones at Tractor Supply, Lowes, Northern Tool, etc... is that those all had a 10000 lb limit on the packaging. This has none. No posted limit means unlimited?

Hi John, according to our tech experts at Curt, this lock is rated for 20,000 lbs.

by:

Very well made, easy to install and quick delivery. Would not hesitate to use any of your products as needed.

by:

The product is just as described, but more importantly the customer service is outstanding. In an age where you can find the same products across multiple websites, etrailer stands above all with their great customer service. Follow through and helpful information makes etrailer a great resource not just another online vendor. For this reason I don't waste time web surfing and instead go right to etrailer every time.

  • Does Curt SecureLatch Pintle Hook & Ball CU57FR Have Tongue Weight Capacity
Good question, and there is not a tongue weight rating for the Curt SecureLatch Pintle Hook with 2-5/16" Ball - 2" Hitches - 14,000 lbs # CU57FR. This does not come with a pin and clip or lock, so I do recommend adding a lock to help protect your investment, the Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver Lock # C23519.

The hitch I recommend for your 2022 Audi Q7 is the Curt # C13277. This American made hitch will be a pretty involved install, but once finished will have a clean, stock look as only the receiver tube will be able to be seen. So no ugly cross tube. This will also be great for carrying a cargo carrier, like the Curt # C18150, as it is rated up to 7,000 pounds towing and 700 pounds of tongue weight capacity (which is the one you will need to keep an eye on for a cargo carrier), but you will...

We do not carry the Bauer Revolution bike rack, so we haven't ever tested any of these parts and don't really have a way of knowing for sure. With that said, I do know that the # SR0018 has a 3/8" bolt with a -16 thread pitch, so if yours has the same bolt on the knob it should work just fine. I can't guarantee a fit but I believe that it would be fairly close. For a hitch pin, it doesn't look like the shank hole is threaded so you should be able to use something like the Trailer Hitch...

There is likely some corrosion inside the lock that is preventing the mechanism from working properly. You can get some spray lubricant and spray it in the lock through the key hole and let it soak for 15 minutes and try again. If this does not work after several rounds then you will either need to have a locksmith unlock it or you may have to drill out the lock to get it off of the hitch.
