Using Roadmaster # RM-048-6 High-Low Adapter as a Winch Mount  

Question:

i keep reading/hearing that its not for trailer use, is there a reason why? i would like to use this for a winch mount. and it seems to be a very strong piece. any input would be great thanks

In the past, Roadmaster did NOT recommend using the High-Low adapters for anything other than flat towing a vehicle, as they had never tested it for such a purpose. They're now saying the adapter can be used on hitch accessories, as long as its 400 lb tongue weight and 10,000 lb towing capacity isn't exceeded. This means that no more than 400 lbs of downward force can be applied to the adapter.

Because the line pull of a winch isn't always applied straight-on to the receiver, I wouldn't recommend using the adapter for a winch mount.
