Recommendation For An Adapter That Will Allow a 2003 Ford Expedition to Tow a Car Trailer Level
Question:
Is there a 6inch high low adapter available like the RM-048-6 that can be used for pulling a car trailer? I have a 2003 Ford Expedition with a receiver mounted on it. I just recently bought a car trailer with a coupler that is lower than the receiver on the truck. I have a load leveler ball hitch that I would like to slide into the adapter so the car trailer will pull level. Is there an issue with having a 6inch high low adapter between the receiver and the load leveler hitch.

The Roadmaster High-Low Hitch Adapter, part # RM-048-6, is rated to be used with tow bars for flat towing behind a motor home and not for weight carrying applications or trailer towing.
The use of any adapter, including this one, will reduce the tongue weight capacity of the hitch by 50 percent. Since tow bars and flat towing physically function differently than towing a trailer or carrying a bike rack, the Roadmaster High-Low was not designed for towing a trailer.
It sounds like you would need a weight distribution shank with a drop that will help you connect your weight distribution or load leveler hitch to your car trailer to keep it level when towing. I carry many weight distribution shanks with different amounts of drop, and to fit different brands of weight distribution systems. I am including a link to a product page that will list the many choices.
I am also including a link to a FAQ page that will show you how to measure for the correct ball mount height.
If you can let me know the type of weight distribution system you have and the drop you will need I can help you choose the correct shank for your application.
