Video Transcript for Review of CURT Chain Hangers Weight Distribution System - C17005

Hi, everybody. Andy here with etrailer.com. Let's take a brief look together at these chain hangers for your CURT Weight Distribution Systems. Now, as an alternative to traditional lift brackets, these bolt-on chain hangers are going to give you attachment points for your weight distribution spring bars. This is designed to work with your weight distribution systems with up to a 15,000-pound gross towing weight. And because these mount to the sides of your trailer frame, they're not going to interfere with frame-mounted items, so you're gonna get maximum clearance for items mounted above your trailer frame.

And this is going to be a quick bolt-on installation. Drilling is going to be required. I think I read in the instructions that if you're a novice installer, maybe take you up to about 40 to 45 minutes. If you're an expert installer, maybe closer to 15 to 20 minutes, just to kind of give you an idea of installation time. But this kit does include everything that you see here on my table before me.

You're going to receive two black powder coated steel chain hangers, so they're gonna be very durable, and that black powder is going to resist corrosion. And in regards to the hardware, I wanted to point out that these long bolts are gonna be used for trailers with tube frames, and then the shorter bolts will be used for trailers with C-channel frames, so you get the bolts for either. And then of course instructions are included to guide you through that simple installation process. Well, that's gonna wrap up our real quick look today. I do hope that our time together was helpful for you.

Again, my name is Andy. Thank you for joining me.

Works. Did what it was supposed to do. Went on easy.

great service

Worked for Me. Installation is not for the faint of heart, but I was successful measuring for the correct locations and drilling the four required holes in the HD steel trailer frame to install the chain hangers.

The anti-sway bar and weight distribution system has been a life saver for us. When my 7x14 dump trailer was fully loaded and hooked up to the Curt trailer hitch on my Ford F250 I was scared to drive more than 30mph. It was like the tail wagging the dog effect. After the load leveler and anti-sway bar was installed, it was smooth sailing even at hwy speeds. Thank you Curt Manufacturing.

by:

As always etrailer has great service. Brackets work well for tight areas (my car hauler has a cross-member and toolbox preventing me from bolting on the clamp on snap up brackets- plus I only need for occasional use with heavier loads, so wanted as cheap as possible way to reuse the load bars for my camper on the car trailer) Also, these brackets are more of a pain to hookup as you have to jack up the tongue and rear of truck to hook the bars and lower the weight on them- and much harder and time consuming if trailer is already loaded (snap up brackets are a better option, if you can use them in your installation) but these are solid, strong and simple as they come, reasonably priced, and they get the job done.

by:

I received the brackets today and installed them today as well. I hooked up the trailer and they preformed as they should. I had a real concern on the amount of time it took to get here. It took 7 days to reach the city in washington that I
live and another 5 days to get to my house.

by:

I'm not crazy about having to drill more holes in my trailer frame but, since my v-nose won't accept the clamp on lift brackets, I'm glad this product exists.

by:

They do exactly what they’re meant to do. Much more annoying to attach the chains to than the usual lever-action brackets, but those don’t always fit.

by:

I got the chain hangers yesterday and mounted them on my V neck cargo trailer. Took the trailer out for a test run. they work great and seam to be well built. I still have to mount the sway bar and test it. I'm sure it will improve towing in the High winds in West Texas.

by:

The product will fit just fine once we get the 17/32" drill bit we need to drill the holes. Apparently this drill bit is not a common size in any of the sets at our house, our fire department tools, local hardware store or even [other stores] do not carry it in store. So it needs to be ordered and shipped. So if ordering this make sure you have a 17/32" drill bit or order one at the same time. So you're not having to order one after you get it and see the instruction needing one and to wait 3 more days after getting this to install it.

Chain Hanger & Ball Lock were just as described at a good price an quick shipment just as previous orders. Highly recommend etrailer.com

by:

Perfect. One year later not a speck of rust. The price and one-day delivery were fantastic. Can't beat it.

by:

These are just what you need if you don't have clearance on your tongue for standard chain hangers. Well made, 1/2 the price of competitor.

by:

Worked perfect for me. Not enough room on my tongue for the clamp ons. After 4000 miles towing with them they still look great.

by:

installed and ready to go. easy installation works great.

by:

Everything was perfect as delivered. Delivery was fast, just took a couple days to get my parts in hand. Now I can work on it over the weekend! Excellent help and perfect product as always.

by:

The hooks were delivered very promptly and were well packaged. It looks like the quality is excellent. I can see why etrailer was recommended to me.

  • Recommended Weight Distribution Hitch for 10,000-lbs GVWR Dump Trailer
I recommend using the Curt MV Weight Distribution System w/ Friction Sway Control - Round Bar - 14K GTW, 1.4K TW # C17063, which will work well for your 10000-lbs GVWR trailer; you will want to make sure that your trailer does not exceed the 1400-lbs tongue weight capacity of this system. In order to use this system on your trailer frame you'll need to install the Chain Hangers for Curt Weight Distribution Systems - Bolt On # C17005, which will allow you to work around the hydraulic box...

  • Recommended Way To Use Weight Distribution On A Trailer That Has A Battery And Propane Tank
Though I do have another option available, there currently is not a weight distribution system manufacturer that makes a system with bars that are 40" long. At least not that I am aware of anyway. With that said, you will need to use a chain style weight distribution system, like the Curt MV # C17052. But the bars are only 31" long, you might say. This is an accurate measurement, but instead of using the included frame brackets, you can use the Curt Bolt On Chain Hangers # C17005. These...

What you'll need is a set of chain hangers that can bolt to the side of the trailer frame as they do not require clearance above it like the clamp on style does. If you have a Reese weight distribution system you'd need the part # RP58305. The Curt equivalent is the part # C17005.

  • How to Select Correct Weight Distribution System for Rockwood Toy Hauler Tent Trailer
The key to selecting a weight distribution/sway control system (WD/SC) is knowing the actual tongue weight (TW) of the loaded trailer and to this figure adding the weight of anything in the tow vehicle that sits behind the rear axle, such as a generator or cooler. This cargo will act just like trailer TW and so it needs to be accounted for. We offer a TW scale # e99044 to simplify measuring. Ideally this total TW falls right near the middle of the operating range for the chosen WD/SC system....

  • Recommended Weight Distribution System for Trailer with Limited Access to Tongue Area
Curt offers their Short-Arm Weight Distribution System # C17332 that is rated for trailer tongue weight in the range of 1000-lbs. This system's spring bars are 2-1/4-inches shorter, at 28-3/8-inches, than most other bars and so they can be the best option when there is limited space at the trailer tongue. All you need to add is a hitch ball, either 2-inch # A-90 or 2-5/16-inch # 19286. If your trailer nose blocks access to the side of the trailer frame where the spring bar brackets need...

  • Can Curt Weight Distribution Chain Hangers be Used for a 14,000 Pound Weight Distribution Hitch

We had received that info directly from one of our Curt contacts. When I reached out to see where that max weight rating comes from my contact said the 15,000 lbs towing/1,500 lbs tongue weight ratings for the Chain Hangers # C17005 come from the Curt Short-Arm Weight Distribution (WD) # C17333 being the highest rated system they have. They have tested and approved it to work with all of their WD systems and since the highest rated WD from Curt is 15,000 lbs towing/ 1,500 lbs tongue this...

  • How to Attach Chain Style Spring Bars to a 4 Inch Wide Trailer Frame
In order to use a chain style weight distribution system on a trailer with a frame rail that is 4" wide, you are going to want to install a set of bolt-on chain hanger brackets like part # C17005. These brackets work with most chain style spring bars up to 1,500 lbs. As you can see in the attached photo, the method to attach the chains will vary slightly but nonetheless will still work for you and is one of your only options.

For your short tongue on your new trailer, I recommend the Curt Short-Arm Weight Distribution systems with sway Control. This will give you the friction sway bar that will help control sway, but will need to be disconnected prior to backing up. I've attached an article to assist. • How Long Are Spring Bars on Curt MV Weight Distribution System C17063
The spring bars on the Curt MV Weight Distribution System # C17063 are 31-5/8 inches long. Judging by the photo you attached, you should be able to install the chain brackets behind the cross member but it may be a tight fit. What I would recommend is to also purchase a set of bolt-on chain brackets # C17005 just in case you run into any clearance issues. These brackets are bolted to the side of your trailer frame so any interference on top or on the inside of your trailer frame is inconsequential....

  • Do Chain Hangers Require Trailer Frame Drilling for Curt MV Weight Distribution System
The chain lift brackets that come with the Curt MV Weight Distribution System # C17052 have a single 1/2" bolt that is used to secure the bracket to your trailer frame. The instructions call out to turn the bolt until it makes contact with your trailer tongue and then tighten it another 1/4 turn. The only time you would have to drill into your frame for a kit like this is if you didn't have the room for the standard lift brackets and you needed to install the brackets # C17005.

Thank you for the information! If your loaded trailer tongue weight (which should be 320 lbs - 480 lbs) plus the weight of cargo in the back of your 2000 Chevy Tahoe is about 600 lbs then the Curt MV Weight Distribution System # C17050 is going to be right in your wheelhouse.
