Weight Distribution and Sway Bar for 24 Foot Enclosed Trailer with Limited Tongue Length

Question:

Hello- I just had a 24 ft enclosed trailer built and when having it built I told the salesman I planned on using a weight distribution and sway bar system because I have a f150 and have pulled similar trailers and it’s caused the truck to sag in the rear. Well after 1.5 months for my build I go pick up the trailer and I asked the guy what trailer weight distribution he recommended and he tells me that I cannot use one for this trailer because the tongue is too short. I needed to have requested the $150 tongue extension when building my trailer. Are you kidding me? They knew I was going to use one and never told me this. Is there any options for me at this point?

For your short tongue on your new trailer, I recommend the Curt Short-Arm Weight Distribution systems with sway Control. This will give you the friction sway bar that will help control sway, but will need to be disconnected prior to backing up. I've attached an article to assist. If the hanger locations won't allow the brackets, you can use the Chain Hangers for Curt Weight Distribution Systems - Bolt On # C17005 as the hangers.

Curt Short-Arm Weight Distribution System with Sway Control - Trunnion Bar # C17322 if your total tongue weight (comprised of loaded trailer tongue and any cargo behind rear axle of your tow vehicle) is under 1,000 lbs.

Curt Short-Arm Weight Distribution System with Sway Control # C17422 if total tongue weight is between 1,001 and 1,500 lbs.

The short arms are 28-3/8" instead of the 30-5/8" of the standard bars.
