Weight Distributing Hitch

Create a stable ride for your tow vehicle and trailer with a weight-distribution hitch. Adding spring bars to your towing system applies leverage, which transfers the load that is pushing down on the rear of your vehicle to all the axles on both your tow vehicle and your trailer, resulting in an even distribution of weight throughout. The result is a smooth, level ride, as well as the ability to tow the maximum capacity of your hitch.

Selecting a Weight Distribution System

The tongue weight rating is the most important factor in determining which size weight distribution system you should use. If the bars of the system you choose are rated too high for your setup, they will create a rigid ride, which can result in a bouncing trailer. If, on the other hand, the bars are not rated high enough, the system will be unable to properly distribute the weight, rendering it virtually useless.

To determine the proper weight rating for a weight distribution system, you must first determine your trailer's tongue weight. Then add to that the weight of the cargo behind the rear axle of your tow vehicle. These two measurements make up the tongue weight rating for a weight distribution system.

The hitch has worked great. etrailer has been really good to buy from.

I had an L shaped weight distribution hitch before I bought this Curt model from E trailer. If you the coop ape the two the older one wS easier to operate. The Pins that lock the chain brackets in please are difficult to remove and adding wd40 does not help also this new one seems to be lower to the ground,, making me bend over and sometimes or even get to my knees to hook it up .My wife used to be able to help me with the older one the new one she is not able so I do both sides myself . Also the part that connects to the truck you need to hold it sideways then flip the the release up and maneuver it he top 2 tabs into place , lot more work than the L shaped one I had. It’s ok otherwise.

by:

My weight distribution hitch worked perfectly. It was very easy to install and the instructions made it simple to adjust for the weight I was pulling. The sway control that I received was great as well holding me steady on the highway, even with strong cross-winds. An impressive product that I would definitely recommend.

by:

Your torsion bar hitch and service were impecable. The people at Husky Cargo trailer in Florida that built the car hauler should take lessons on how to build a trailer and treat paying customers.

by:

Happy with the product. Had the trailer company set up the hitch on my Tundra with out a hitch!!! Ha.

Still working great!!!

I have a 2016 F150 4x4 that I leveled and I'm pulling a V-nose enclosed car trailer. The shank that came with the hitch won't allow me to level the trailer. So I ordered a 12 inch drop shank to allow me to level the trailer. I thought the one came with it would work . I will give further review once I receive the new shank.

by:

Works Great, excellent service

by:

Installed on 14,500 rated trailer pulled 1400 miles round trip no issues, no sway, truck and trailer leveled out for a smooth ride.

by:

I’ve used this hitch as and RV Transporter for a year now and this is a great weight distribution hitch at a great price!

by:

have has this hitch for over a year now and have had zero issues. It is used exclusively to pull my 28 foot travel trailer. Heavy duty and easy to use.

by:

Easier to use then another brand. Only problem was that somehow I bent one of torsion bar retaining clips. Was afraid I would ruin it trying to straighten it out but didn't. I use a colored zip tie to mark the proper chain link to eliminate guessing.

by:

Unfortunately, I have not been able to put my new towing system to use yet. However, the product was delivered very quickly, and shipping was free. Very satisfied with how easily the parts were to assemble. Great experience, so far, with etrailer.com

by:

works great!

by:

I appreciate that the hitch was sent out within a few hours of it being ordered.

by:

Like your product, but the packaging leaves a lot to be desired. This is the second one we bought and both were delivered in broken damaged boxes. Luckily all the parts were there. Thanks for the quick delivery.

by:

I ordered the wrong system and had to order longer bars, they worked perfectly.

by:

Great product came from great help

  • Recommendations to Reduce Sway on a Pop Up Camper that Has Weight in the Rear of Camper
The best recommendation I could give you would be to move as much weight to the front of your trailer as possible. That will give you the best results. Sway control systems work best on setups that will start to sway when a semi-truck passes or if it's just windy in general. If too much weight is in the back of a trailer the best solution is to move the weight forward or if that's not possible add weight to the front of the trailer.

  • How to Pick Out a Weight Distribution System for a 34 ft V-Nose Trailer
When picking out a weight distribution system the most important figure to consider is the loaded tongue weight of the setup. Thats with everything loaded in the trailer plus the weight of any cargo behind the rear axle of your tow vehicle. If the 900 lbs you listed as your tongue weight is the loaded tongue weight then the Curt Weight Distribution System # C17322 you referenced would be a good choice because of its 800-1,000 lb tongue weight range. If you need additional tongue weight...

  • Weight Distribution Recommendation for a 3500 lb 2002 Coleman Utah
The most important factor to consider when choosing a weight distribution system is knowing the tongue weight of your trailer when it is fully loaded and ready to tow. The weight distribution systems that we carry will list a tongue weight range. You will want to choose a system that has a tongue weight range that encompasses the fully loaded tongue weight of your trailer. Choosing a weight distribution system that is too heavy or too light for the tongue weight of your trailer will not...

  • Weight Distribution Recommendation for a Boat Trailer with 800 lbs Tongue Weight and Surge Brakes
When picking out a weight distribution system the most important factor to consider is the loaded tongue weight which includes the the weight of any cargo behind the rear axle. Since your trailer has surge brakes you cannot use a weight distribution system with friction sway control or dual-cam sway control. Because of that I would recommend you go with a Reese Steadi-Flex weight distribution system # RP66560 rated for 600 to 1,200 pounds tongue weight. You will also likely need a pole...

  • Can You Reverse with a Weight Distribution System Installed
The warning for backing up weight distribution systems like the # C17322 that you referenced is because of the friction sway control system that is included. As long as you aren't jackknifing your trailer when you are backing up you should be fine. If you find yourself in a situation where you need to do that you will want to remove the spring bars and the friction sway control (if you have one) and then you would be fine to back the trailer up. It's not so much the reversing of the...

Tongue weight on a toy hauler tends to be on the heavy side, even as much as 20 percent of the gross trailer weight. You will need to get an accurate measurement of the tongue weight of the trailer loaded and ready to tow to get the correct weight distribution system. • Adding a Second Sway Control Arm to Pro Series Weight Distribution System
All you would need to add a second sway control arm to Curt weight distribution system # C17322 is friction sway control kit # 83660 or # 17200. These bars do not have a left and right, you just have to take out the inside, turn it over, and put it back in. Then flip the whole assembly over. You can flip the plate, handle, and nut around too. Its pretty self-explanatory once you have it in your hands.

  • Recommendation For A Weight Distribution System For A Camper Being Towed By 2008 Toyota Tacoma
In order to get the right Weight Distribution (WD) system for your 2008 Toyota Tacoma towing setup, you will need to know your actual Tongue Weight (TW) when fully loaded and ready to tow and not just the dry weight. You will also need to include any weight from behind the rear axle of your tow vehicle. • Curt Weight Distribution System Recommendation for 600 lbs Tongue Weight
For a tongue weight of 600 lbs the Curt WD System part # C17341 would be a better option. This system has a tongue weight max of 800 lbs so it would be a better fitting system. For a 2-5/16 inch hitch ball you would then want the part # A-6. The part # C17322 would technically work, but since it is rated a bit too high you would end up with a harsher ride quality than the # C17341. Both systems will allow backing up. You could weld on a 1/2 inch spacer to your trailer and the frame brackets...

The best way to select a weight distribution system for your 2011 Dodge Durango is to weigh the trailer when it is fully loaded and ready to tow. • Weight Distribution for a 10,000 Pound Trailer and 2004 Ford F-350 Diesel
When calculating tongue weight to choose a weight distribution system you also have to add in the weight of anything loaded behind the rear axle of the tow vehicle. So the minimum weight of the trailer is around 5,000 pounds and 10,000 pounds is the gross weight. At 10 to 15 percent that puts the range at 500 to 1,500 pounds. That is a big range. But it is probably not likely that you will be at 1,500 pounds tongue weight (correct me if I am wrong). So we can look at some other systems. The...

The Reese system # C17322 that you have referenced is for trailers that have a tongue weight capacity between 800 and 1,000 pounds. This system is probably too heavy for your pop up trailer and you will experience a stiff ride. From the research I did, the camper will have a tongue weight of around 375 pounds. You then need to add to that the weight of anything loaded behind the rear axle of the van to get the total tongue weight. I recommend a system that is rated for 200 to 600 pounds...

  • Can A Weight Distribution System be Left Installed When Backing Up a Trailer
Basically with any weight distribution system/sway control you can back a trailer up with it installed IF you only plan to back up mainly in a straight line. If the trailer has to be jackknifed at all then you have to disconnect the setup. The rule of thumb I use for how tight of a turn you can go is basically how tight of an angle can your trailer be at moving forward with the steering wheel all the way turned.
