Video Transcript for Review of Draw-Tite Sway Control Weld On Tab - 3442

Hello, friends and neighbors. Steve here with etrailer.com. Today we're looking at this replacement sway control tab for your weight distribution system. Now folks, this will replace the sway control mounting bar for your weight distribution system and it is a well-known application. We highly recommend you get it welded on by a professional, but if you're a DIYer and you know how to weld, go ahead and feel free to tackle it yourself. Now, just in case you're curious, this side over here gets welded on to the ball mount and it does fit the commonly one-on-one quarter inch sway-control little ball there.

Now, as far as some dimensions with this guy, I'm getting four and seven-eighths overall for a length. I was getting right at one and 15 16th of an inch. We can call it two inches if you want, and I was getting about seven-16th so a half inch depending on what you're looking at there. Now the hole again is a five-eighth inch hole. That's kind of a standard size for those little weight distribution balls.

Again, folks, simple weld-on replacement tab. I'm Steven, thanks for watching and have a great day.

Simple tab for adding sway control to a hitch. Keep in mind you need to beable to weld this type of steel or know a welder that can do it properly. etrailer made it simple and cost effective to order.

  • Installing Two Anti-Sway Bars On A Standard Ball Mount.
For your Reese Friction Sway Control Kit - Economy - by Draw-Tite, Reese and Hidden Hitch, # 83660, you can use a ball mount in the rise or drop position without any trouble. It sounds like you are using a 4 inch rise position, like the Curt Ball Mount for 2" Hitches - 4" Rise, 6" Drop - 9-1/4" Long - 7,500 lbs, # C45070. To use one of your sway bars, you would need the Reese Sway-Control Bracket for 2" Ball Mounts - Class III and IV, # RP26003, but for two you will need the weld on tabs...

  • Can Reese Friction Sway Control Kit # 83660 Be Installed on Drivers Side of Trailer
Thank you for your recent purchases. The Reese Friction Sway Control Kit # 83660 can be installed on the driver's side of your trailer since its internal friction arm can be removed and reinserted upside down, however the Sway Control Tab # RP26005 cannot be inverted to the bottom side of your ball mount. Instead you'll need to use part # 3442 which is a weld-on part that can be attached to the left side of your ball mount. Part # D320 shows an example of how such a combination of items...

  • Recommended Adjustable Ball Mount for Use With Friction Sway Control Bars
The photos did not come through but it sounds like you need a new ball mount to level the trailer while towing. In order to do this you will need to measure from the ground to the bottom of the coupler on the trailer while level and then subtract that measurement from the ground to the top of your hitch receiver opening. This will give you the correct amount of drop you will need to look for in a ball mount. I have also attached a help article that will walk you through this entire process...

What you will need to do so that you can mount a friction sway control like the part # 83660 on both sides of your trailer is have a Sway Control Tab part # 3442 welded on both sides of your ball mount platform. You will need to use a qualified welder for this.

All you will need is a sway control tab, # 3442, that you can have welded to the other side of the mount you are using. Welding should be done by a qualified professional welder. We also have # C45822 which is the same thing only a different brand.

  • Is Second Friction Sway Control Needed for 28 foot, 7,000 lb Trailer
While it isn't an absolute necessity to use two friction sway control units with your Reese weight distribution system like # RP66542, it is highly recommended that two are used with any trailer longer than 26 feet and more than 6,000 lbs. What you can do to add a second Friction Sway Control Kit # 83660 is have the Sway Control Tab # 3442 welded onto the side of the head of your Reese weight distribution system.

  • Availability of Sway Control Hitch Ball Bracket
Yes, you can use the Reese # RP26003 for a 2 inch ball mount, the Reese # RP26005 for a Class II 1-1/4 inch ball mount , or the Draw-Tite Tab # 3442 which is more of a universal weld-on bracket (must be done by professional. For a replacement Sway Control Hitch Ball you can use part # RP58060 which has a ball diameter of 1-1/4 inches and a shank diameter of 5/8 inches.

  • Is There Difference Between Weld On and Bolt On Style of Sway Control Bracket for Friction SC
The only difference would be the install of the part # RP26003 or a weld on bracket part # 3442. Aside from that they function the same. With the weld on bracket you'll have to find a welder to do the work, but the added thickness of the # RP26003 might create the need for a taller shank hitch ball.

  • Can Second Friction Sway Control Unit be Added to Trailer
Typically, to add a second sway-control bracket to their WD hitch, the Draw-Tite Sway Control Tab, part # 3442 is welded on to the head of the system, giving an additional mount for the sway control ball as you asked about. If you happen to be just using a standard ball mount on your trailer this tab would work for that as well. You are correct, adding a second sway control bar, like the Curt Friction Style Sway Control, # 17200, is recommended for trailers over 26 feet long. One would be welded to each side of your ball mount and provide the mounts needed for 2 balls. The holes in the # 3442 tab are 5/8 inch diameter and the hole diameter of part # RP26003 is 1 inch. • Can Friction Sway Control Be Installed on Driver Side of Trailer
You can pretty easily install a friction sway control system on the driver side of a trailer. You would just need to remove the inner piece of the system like part # 83660 and then rotate it 180 degrees and reinsert it into the outer piece. You would then need the part # 3442 to weld onto the driver side of your ball mount.

  • Solution to Allow Use of Friction Sway Control with Any Ball Mount
Since you need more drop than the ball mount you have now which has a friction sway control attached to side of it the easiest solution would be to go with a bracket like the part # RP26003 which fits over the ball mount platform and allows you to basically use whichever ball mount you need to provide correct rise/drop to tow trailer level. We also have weld on tabs for the bracket as well like with the # 3442. I also attached a link to a page that details how to pick out the correct...
