Tuson RV Brakes Weight Distribution Hitch - 335TSC-1000

  • Sway Control Only
  • Tuson RV Brakes
  • Severe Sway

Electronic sway control system helps control and reduces sway in trailers with or without weight distribution. Monitors trailer lateral movement and independently applies the left and right trailer brakes to correct the sway.

Features:

  • Electronic sway control system limits side-to-side movement of trailer during towing
    • Unit corrects sway by independently activating your trailer's left and right brakes
    • More effective than friction sway control systems due to having more force to counteract sway
  • Continuously monitors trailer angle, movement, speed, and other parameters for real-time braking calculations
  • Proprietary algorithm calculates and applies the most effective braking response within milliseconds of detecting trailer sway
  • Independently applies left or right trailer brakes (asymmetric braking) to counteract lateral movement and quickly correct trailer sway
  • Sway control braking is applied for 3/4 of a second to prevent tire flat-spotting and still create enough opposing torgue to correct sway
  • Two modes of brake activation - gust-of-wind activation and building sway activation - to correct trailer sway
  • Automatically disables gust-of-wind activation mode when on rough terrain to prevent unwanted braking
    • Gust-of-wind activation mode remains disabled until rig is back on smooth ground
    • Building sway activation remains active at all times
  • System enters sleep mode after 30 minutes of inactivity to conserve trailer battery
    • System powers on when a brake signal is detected from the brake controller
  • LED light provides system status for easy troubleshooting
    • Indicates normal operation, rough terrain or sleep mode, system power issues and more
    • 10' Cord included for mounting light in easy-to-see location on front of trailer
  • Won't interfere with your brake controller, weight distribution system, or mechanical sway control
  • Compatible with all truck OEM trailer sway control systems and integrated brake controllers
  • Fully sealed, water-resistant construction protects against road spray
  • One-time, maintenance-free installation
    • Module mounts 1' to 10' behind hitch ball, on the trailer centerline
    • Splitting electric trailer brake circuit into 2 separate circuits is required for independent left and right side braking
    • 14-Gauge wiring (sold separately) splices into trailer's brakes and connects to trailer's 12-volt battery, breakaway switch, and trailer plug

Specs:

  • Application: trailers with 1 to 4 axles (2 to 8 brake assemblies)
    • Compatible with electric trailer brakes only
  • Dimensions: 5-3/4" long x 3-1/2" wide x 2-1/4" tall
  • 2-Year warranty

Works great! I installed this myself. I'm a 23 year tech and this was an easy job for me but took some time. I would suggest having an experienced tech do your wiring. I used a junction box and sealed all components well. The led light indicates when the system contracts a sway and any problems. I mounted the led box in the center of the front of my camper so I can see it from my rear view mirror. I use airbags on my truck for weight distribution and I have no issues. This system works as advertised. The only problem I had was the wire going to the led has a small plug that is somewhere around three feet from the led. The plug ended up coming apart and the wire drug on the ground my first use. I cut the plug off and wired and shrink wrapped the wires. No more plug to come undone.

by:

No sways since installed but I too scared to go service test it. We had a bad situation happen once, and nothing since the Tucson system has been installed. I love the little green light that tells me the system is good and ready.

This sway control unit works very well. We tow our 27' trailer behind our Nissan Titan without a weight distribution hitch and have no sway or control problems. We towed is across Idaho a couple months ago and encountered 20+ mph crosswinds, gusting to 30+ MPH and didn't experience any sway even on a two lane road where 10 wheeler trucks were passing the opposite direction. There was large blast of wind as we passed them going the opposite direction and the trailer would move but immediately return to normal tracking.
The only thing I would improve is the ability to see when the sway control is active. There's no way to see the tiny light flashing multiple times per second when it's way back on the trailer. Having something like 2 lights of different colors would be nice so a different light color could indicate the sway control is actively preventing sway.

by:

Took about 3 hours to install, but was easy. I was looking for peace of mind after a nasty accident caused by trailer sway and the system, especially the LED light that I can see in my rearview tells me when the system is working..so far, so good!

by:

INRECENTLY INSTALLED MY ASSYMETRIC BRAKE CONTROLLER REALLY HAPPY ABOUT THE UNIT,I SENT YOU PHOTO OF THE INSTALLATION.

by:

I tow a 23' travel trailer with a Durango. I purchased this to eliminate sway from passing trucks on the highway. I don't think it helps very much for that application since I don't feel much improvement in the sway from those events and I never see the monitoring light indicate it has triggered.

by:

Works great. Keeps trailer in-line with tow vehicle.

by:

So far after first trip with this installed it is working seamlessly. If I had not towed this 36ft toyhauler before I would say its not doing anything. Before the trailer would push the truck around with every wind gust or truck passing. With it installed, nothing, no pushing, no steering correction needed, the trailer just follows the truck, even when I am trying to make it sway. Very good product and one that I am suprised is not installed at the factory on bigger trailers.

by:

Did not work in my case. Have a green status light but sway control never activates. Vendor support is non-existent and their “60-day” return policies only work for “unused and uninstalled” items. If it is defective you are on your own duking it out with the manufacturer.

I reached out to the manufacturer about the experience that you had with the sway controller and it has led me to ask you a few questions. What are the highway or road conditions that you have been pulling your trailer? Tuson advises that the goal of the system is to only apply the brakes when the sway levels approach a medium level at higher speeds and not to activate on the smaller sways or at slower speeds. Are you experiencing sway at lower speeds or in town? Are you also using a sway control weight distribution system or only the Tuson system? You may consider adding on a weight distribution system for in town use. The Tuson system can work in tandem with it for when greater sway conditions apply.

by:

This rating is based on the installation instructions, technical support, and ease of install. I have not experienced the anti-sway corrections as of yet.

by:

just installed it. next week I'll be giving a 200 mile test drive.pulling a 9000 lbs ,36ft. bumper pull with a F-150. truck has pulled this RV before with some fish tailing even with a propride P3 hitch so I'm hopping the Tuson will take the rest out. let you know.

by:

Towing a 32 foot Avion travel trailer behind a VW V10 Touareg. In 10k miles we have experienced no sway at all. We do not have any mechanical sway control, only the Tuson. We are happy with our purchase.

by:

I have a 2010 Expedition tow vehicle and a 22’ ultra light twin axle travel trailer. It was difficult to control near semi-trucks and in strong cross winds. Just completed an 1100 mile trip and the trailer pulled like a dream. This unit was easy to install, had very good instructions, and is very well made. I believe my wife could help me drive on our next trip and she has zero experience pulling a trailer.

by:

I bought this to tow our Apex Nano (GVWR 6000lb) with our 2013 Land Rover LR4. Land Rover does not recommend a WDH, so we had this installed by our local RV repair shop to help with sway control.

Overall, I'm satisfied with the product. It definitely helps more than the previous sway controller (Hayes) that our dealer had installed when we first purchased our trailer. On a recent 200+ miles trip, we could see (thanks to the LED light) the device activate on several instances to limit sway. It made for a more pleasant trip overall. I haven't towed with strong winds yet, so that will be for another time.

Note that the first 30 minutes or so were rather rough, but things calmed down afterwards. My hypothesis is that this is related with the initial sway control device calibration.

eTrailer was also able to price match a lower price I found elsewhere. Great service!

by:

For the most part it's a waste of money. It's a cool device and when the technology matures it will probably save a lot of bumper pulls. The problem with this product is that the trailer has to have significance way in order for it to work,... and if you are an experienced driver, you've already compensated by the time that happens. It's way is an issue on your trailer then replace the suspension you'll get a much better response

I wanted to reach out to you in regards to your review on the Tuscon braking system. You mentioned that it is taking a lot of sway before the system is working and I wanted to ask a few follow-up questions before I reach out to the manufacturer. Are you using a brake controller as well. If so what brand is it or was it from the factory? Does you GMC have an automatic leveling system? How many brakes do you have on the trailer or how many axles?

by:

I purchased this to use with a 23' Airstream travel trailer that I am towing with a Land Rover Discovery. Land Rover, unfortunately, does not recommend the use of weight distribution hitches on their vehicles so it was necessary to find some other way to control sway. I used this Tuson Sway Control device plus a Curt Friction Sway Control. With this setup we have been able to safely tow our Airstream through difficult conditions such as high winds, rain and mountain passes. In high winds it is noticeable, and extremely impressive, to feel how the Tuson activates the trailer brakes to control sway.

Having said this, I would not recommend towing a trailer of this weight without a weight distribution hitch. We plan to switch our tow vehicle to one that will allow the use of weight distribution (which seems to be any vehicle other than a Land Rover). Even after changing to a setup with a weigh distribution hitch with integrated sway control, I will still be very glad to have the Tuson device installed on the trailer. Were I to purchase another travel trailer I would immediately install another Tuson Sway Control regardless of the tow vehicle and hitch setup. I am actually very surprised that travel trailer manufacturers do not offer this as a pre-installed option on their trailers.

One thing to note for Airstream owners is that Airstream brakes are wired in series which, at least for me, made this not a do-it-yourself installation. My local Airstream dealer charged about $500 for installation which was well worth the price and it works great.

by:

Had this unit installed now for over a year and haven't looked back. Works as advertised, but how would you know when all you need to do is install it, drive it and have no sway control issues with your travel trailer which is exactly what its supposed to do. Little extra thinking and work wiring it up yourself, but the excellent service department provides you with all of the pointers and clarifications that you need to successfully install the unit yourself if you are handy around vehicles and minor automotive wiring. One of the best features for me about this unit is saving on tow vehicle payload weight take ups which seems to be an ever present issue in the RV travel trailer world where the added weight from mechanical RV hitch load levelers and sway control mechanical mechanisms eating up your vehicles payload capacity and also from losing sway control function with mechanical sway control hitches during inclement wet weather. From what I read from fellow RV`rs and their reasons for not choosing this electronic sway controller is seems to be their hesitancy to tackle the minor brake wiring adjustments to your TT`ers brake wiring needed during installation, and they shouldn`t be because its not that difficult. Well worth the money from my perspective!

by:

This is a very good solution for use with a unibody vehicle that is not supposed to be used with anti-sway bars on the trailer

by:

Fast delivery, great customer service.

The
unit was fairly easy to install. Though I wish it came with all the neccessary hardware i.e the self tapping screws for the light mount.

by:

This is a great "peace of mind" product. It works great on my Palomino Puma XLE 25TFC toy hauler. This trailer is 30' long 12' tall and 8' wide. It weighs 6027 lbs empty and it is a terror to pull. This trailer starts swaying with the slightest breeze. I first installed a Husky centerline sway control load distribution hitch and that helped a little bit but after installing the Tuson, sway has litteraly stopped. The installation was pretty involved and you better be comfortable with cutting up your existing break wires. The installation also took me a little over 5 hours but it was well worth it. This kit also comes with an LED control light that mounts on the front of the trailer to let you know when the trailer is experiencing sway. The light will turn red until the sway is corrected. I saw the light turn red several times but by the time the red light comes on the sway is corrected and you never feel it. I highly recommend this product it is worth every penny.

by:

I got one of these for our Hawk 2-horse bumper-pull trailer about a year ago. In central Illinois we often have 30-50 mph gusty wind, so my wife & I have had several opportunities to put this thing to the test--and it passed with flying colors! On top of it doing a good job controlling sway, it is so convenient to be able to simply hookup and go, and there is no extra equipment to deal with when backing up.

by:

etrailer, thus far, has been nothing but terrific. Fast shipping and what appears to be knowledgeable staff. What more can you ask for? One thing. If you are showing products based on the shopper's tow vehicle be more explicit about additional product/installation requirements/recommendations. Assume that some of the shoppers are new RV'ers. This Tuson Asymetiric Sway Control unit requires the short and inexpensive plug and play wiring connecter thingy for a Subaru Ascent, unless an owner wants to cut into their car's wiring and splice. I doubt that most would prefer to do that. The product was shown based on the owner's car. Show us the whole picture clearly and explicitly. The link in the second paragraph is insufficient. The thingy is inexpensive, but the time wasted is not. Thanks.

by:

So far, so good. No real swaying... minor swaying in heavy side-winds. Easy installation for a DIY person.

by:

Arrived on time as expected, now I need to find an installer

by:

I called for information about this and other items and Danielle the person I spoke with was very knowledgeable which is kind of rare anymore.

  • How to Reduce Trailer Sway When Towing a 5th Wheel Trailer
I believe you are referring to your 5th wheel trailer swaying by the "axle whip" term you were using.
