Where Does Max Towing/Tongue Ratings for Bolt On Curt Chain Hangers Come From
Question:
Your expert recommends Curt 17005 chain hangers for trailer weighting 12000 #. Also, in part description it is mentioned that 17005 hangers are rated for 15000# trailer weight. However, I could not find any rating statement in Curt box or any Curt documents. Could you please point me to a manufacturer statement related to acceptable weight for Curt 17005 hangers?

We had received that info directly from one of our Curt contacts. When I reached out to see where that max weight rating comes from my contact said the 15,000 lbs towing/1,500 lbs tongue weight ratings for the Chain Hangers # C17005 come from the Curt Short-Arm Weight Distribution (WD) # C17333 being the highest rated system they have. They have tested and approved it to work with all of their WD systems and since the highest rated WD from Curt is 15,000 lbs towing/ 1,500 lbs tongue this is why they don't have an official weight rating listed on the products or with the paperwork.
This means that if you have a different WD system you are trying to use them on you can't use one rated over 15,000 lbs towing/1,500 lbs tongue because they haven't been tested for anything higher than that.
