Recommended Short Arm Weight Distribution Hitch for V-Nose Cargo Trailer

Question:

I have a v nosed HD Cargo trailer and the A frame is very small. Even the short bars are too long for most tem Weight Distribution hitches. Can the bracket that go on the frame be mounted more than 4 inches from the end of the bars? Even the Curt installation instructions shows them much closer to the tow vehicle than 4 inches from the end of the bars in the picture at the bottom of the last page labeled Final Installed Image

I may have a solution for you on this, but you're not going to be able to use the Curt # C17501 in the manner you've mentioned since the brackets will need to be 4" from the end of the spring bars to provide proper leverage to the system.

It sounds like you're looking for something like the Curt Short-Arm Weight Distribution System # C17422, which is designed specifically for trailers like this and will work on trailers with a tongue weight between 1000-lbs and 1500-lbs. Instead of the clamp on brackets that come with this system you would need to use the Bolt-On Chain Hangers # C17005, which will bolt to the side of your trailer frame and not your trailer tongue. The spring bars on this system are 28-3/8" long, so you'll want to take that into consideration when deciding if this will work properly for you. With this system you would need a hitch ball as well; # A-90 for a 2" ball or # 19286 for a 2-5/16" ball.

Since this weight distribution hitch does not come with integrated sway control, you can add it (if you've got enough room) with the Curt Friction Sway Control for Weight Distribution Systems # 17200.

I've linked a review video of this system for you to have a look at.
