Determining the Bolt Pattern

The first number in the bolt pattern is the number of bolt holes. The second number denotes the diameter, in inches, of the circle on which the bolt holes sit.

Bolt Pattern - Even

On wheels with an even number of bolt holes, measure from the center of one bolt hole to the center of the hole directly across from it. (Example: 8 on 6-1/2 means 8 bolt holes with 6-1/2" from the center of one hole to the center of another on the opposite side.)

Bolt Pattern - Odd

To determine the bolt-circle diameter on wheels with an odd number of bolt holes, measure from the center of any bolt hole to the point halfway between the two bolt holes directly across from the first. (Example: 5 on 4-1/2 means 5 bolt holes with 4-1/2" measured to a point halfway between the opposite bolt holes.)

Bolt Pattern - Side

Measuring the distance (D) from the center of one bolt hole on the wheel to the center of a bolt hole right next to it can also help to determine the bolt pattern.

  • If D = 2-5/8", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 4-1/2"
  • If D = 2-3/4", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 4-3/4"
  • If D = 3", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 5"
  • If D = 3-1/4", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 5-1/2"

DO NOT BUY!! Ordered two of these hubs and after mounting the wheels on these there was obvious rumbling noises when spinning the wheels. I took the hubs apart and found that 3 out of 4 races were marred with pliers, causing rough spots. Sent pictures to etrailer and etrailer refused to admit they were defective.

by:

Took care of our trouble getting the part we wanted. Now we just need to put it on!

by:

These were easy to install and made a 12 hour one way road trip worry free.
I would buy these again without a second thought but doubt I’ll have too.

by:

Just received my hub for my 14 ft boat I was worried if I purchased the right item ? But reading the comments helped me out as another customer asked that question that I needed to know so I went ahead and purchased. I put the 4x4 lug on and sure enough! It fit like a glove thanks guys oh and pre assembled packed with grease it was easy once again thanks.

by:

I had the four hole bolt on hubs and lost a wheel while driving, Changed to the four lug design and have had great luck with them.

by:

Would you rather get bearings for $20 or a whole pre greased hub with sparkling lugs and a new dust cap for $40? Spend the extra $20 and save yourself some time to get back to the real things you want to do. Like towing your camper to your next overnight trip. Don't forget to re-tourq your lugs after the first 100 miles.

by:

They fit the axle perfectly, however the end caps that were supplied did not fit the hubs they both were too big and would not go on, I had to reuse the old caps that came off the original hubs and the fit the new hubs perfectly. the video below shows two caps there was only the one solid cap supplied, the solid one not the one with the rubber end to grease when needed.

As I said a year ago the bearing caps that were supplied by you in the box with the hubs did not fit the hubs I had yo reuse the old ones that came off the old hubs and they fit perfectly I have used the trailer several times since installing the hubs with no problems

by:

I’m having an issue with the seal on the inside portion of the hub / spindle that I just purchased. The exterior dimension of the seal is the same size as the old one but my the opening that goes over the spindle to form the seal is too large on the new one. Can you please advise? I have a trip this weekend with the trailer. The old seal is shot and not reusable. Thanks

If the 10-9 grease seal that came with the Trailer Idler Hub Assembly part AKIHUB-440-2-2K did not fit then odds are you need the Double Lip Grease Seal part 34823 which measures 1.249 inner diameter ID and 1.983 outer diameter OD. However, in order to confirm this you need to measure the outer diameter of the spindle where the grease seal seats with a digital caliper like part # 301-17068 to the nearest thousandth of an inch.

by:

Come with good bearings that roll smooth and seals, fit nicely, and the studs had nice threads and lug nuts. Only gripe is they will start to surface rather quickly if you run them in the winter with salt on the roads and use them on a small boat trailer like I am, so I’d suggest spraying them with some nice rust preventing spray paint as soon as you can.

by:

My only problem with the order was the inner seals were too big for the axle lands. The service was prompt and the rest of the parts were perfect. I replaced the inner seals with the correct ones locally, and I've had no problems with the hubs or bearings.

by:

Easy to install and seems to be of high quality. Video helped verify that I was doing it correctly. Will use etrailer again.

Great. Good value. Have held up for a few thousand miles now perfectly.

A year ago I rebuilt an old jet-ski trailer, converting it to a kayak trailer. I tore it completely down, and rebuilt it with parts purchased from etrailer.com. I couldn't be more pleased with the results, and my friends continue to comment on how nice the trailer is. Ordering the parts from etrailer.com was easy, very reasonably priced, and they arrived quickly and in perfect working order. I will definitely use etrailer.com again in the future.

by:

I ordered 2 trailer wheels, 2 wheel hub sets, 2 spindles and spare grease seals for future hub bearing maintenance. These items were shipped within 5 days. All parts were securely packaged in several layers of extra heavy duty boxes, then placed in a larger extra heavy duty box with handle cut outs. All the boxes were fastened together with heavy duty staples and all seams were sealed. Price, shipping and parts are excellent. Could not of had a better experience anywhere else. I will order all my future trailer parts from e-trailer.

by:

went on a cross country trip and one hub was always hot, not good, never got to hot to cause concerns, but hot none the less, don't know if this caused other problem, see below, but who knows

There can be a few causes that will make the idler hub heat up. One is if there is inadequate lubrication in the hub. Another cause is if the castle nut is too tight. The nut on the spindle should be tightened until snug, with no side-to-side play in the hub and then backed off slightly, about maybe one eighth of a turn. If the trailer is overloaded with more weight on each hub than they are rated for this too can lead to higher hub temperatures. So can using the wrong type of grease be sure to use high-temperature wheel bearing grease like part # L11380. Do note that it is generally not a good idea to mix grease types.

by:

I used etrailer during my restoration of my 1965 Travler Comet runabout boat. The trailer was in poor shape requiring all new suspension and hardware. etrailer had everything I needed. Easy to find and order. Great service and quick shipping.

by:

The hub, bearings, seal, and internal races were all satisfactory and installed great after packing and preload, however the grease cap is a joke.
Trying to finish my job, the caps would NOT install into the hub ends with any gentle force. Tried to increase the force to get them on, and they simply give in and begin to flatten in towards the castle nut. Absolute garbage. I've never fought grease caps so bad in my life. I had to use my old ones. These new ones would not install - and even if they did at this point, they're so jacked up they'd rub the end of the axle. 0 stars for those caps. Don't ever send me anymore. Garbage.

by:

Easy ordering, fast shipping and to top it off - the hub assembly was pre greased and ready to install! Amazing! Cleaned the axle shaft and slid the pre greased hub assembly on, bearings were already packed and inner seal installed.
Nice and neat, thank you Etrailer !!

by:

The hub seems ok, but the cap is AWFUL. I used the installation video and started with some gentle tapping on the cap to fit it in place, but it would not go in. I started tapping a little harder and it just started to warp and now when the wheel spins, it rubs against the spindle nut. I had to buy replacement caps. JUNK. I'd buy them from etrailer but they take way too long to ship things so I went elsewhere.

by:

Recently received and installed new axle hubs on my pop up camper, and I’m now excited to get it back in the road next week. Though the original product was not in stock, etrailer offered a comparable product, and still managed to get the product to me early. I would recommend including a castle nut cotter pin with all hub assemblies, it does slow down the repair if one is not on hand. Over all, very satisfied.

by:

Pre-greased hubs were great. Install on 43 year old snowmobile trailer. Then took it loaded to N.C. and back to PA. -- no problem -- ran great at 65 mph.

by:

I purchase tires for my trailer I pull behind my motorcycle excellent would highly recommend also have fudge spindles and bearing assemblies excellent price very good quality

by:

Fantastic. These are hard to find and it fit my old 1979 Dilly trailer quite nicely. I'm really glad that I got the pre-greased version as well. That saved me a ton of time and mess. It goes on super easy and fast. Except know that you should use a wood block against the dust cap and then hit the wooden block with the hammer. That's the only way the dust cap will go on.

by:

My 1960 boat trailer wheel rusted out and would no longer hold air. This hub is a perfect replacement. Detailed axle/bearing information and availability of this part online was perfect for my needs. Thank you so much!!!

by:

the customer service was excellent they helped me through the whole situation cuz the one I had was completely rusted and they got the right fit for Harbor Freight trailer

by:

As always, next day it was delivered. Everything was there and fit where it was suppose to. Way more meat on it than old hub. The only issue was when I was tightening the nut. After tightening it finger tight I put the wrench to it to seat bearings, backed it off, then turned it finger tight again. I had to use a smaller cotter pin because the nut covered about 1/4 of the hole. More than likely it was my Chinese trailer faults not the hubs. HaHa
