Axle Dimensions

Hub Face and Spring Center Measurements on Standard Trailer Axle

There are multiple ways to measure the length of an axle beam, but the hub-face-to-hub-face and spring-center-to-spring-center lengths are the most accurate. Hub face (A) refers to the length of the axle measured from the base of one wheel stud to the base of the wheel stud on the opposite side of the axle (when hubs are mounted on the beam).

The spring center (B) is the approximate width of your trailer. It is measured from the center of the spring seat on one side of the axle to the center of the seat on the other. This axle beam comes with the spring seats welded on.

If you are replacing your trailer's axle, you should be able to figure out which type you need by determining your trailer's capacity, the bolt pattern of your wheels, the brake type and the aforementioned lengths.

etrailer Axles

etrailer axles are made of high-strength steel and come with spindles and spring seats welded on. The spring seats are attached to the underside of the axle so that the leaf springs (sold separately) can mount beneath the axle. The result of this underslung design is a trailer that rides a bit lower for quick and easy loading and unloading.

Each axle is manufactured to create a certain camber angle. This ensures that the angle of the wheels is correct for your towing needs. Because the primary concern when towing is maintaining controlled, in-line movement, each axle is made so that your trailer's tires will run along the pavement evenly, with contact across the width of the tread. The result is excellent straight-line acceleration for steady, in-line tracking. You might notice the bend near the center of the axle; this is what ensures the proper camber angle. Having the center ride a bit higher and the sides of the axle bent lower allows the axle to give just enough to compensate for the load.

The box carrying the axle was empty. You might want to protect the ends of the tube better so it doesn’t fall out during delivery.

by:

Just what I wanted. Excellent workmanship and a good fit for my boat trailer.

The axles that I ordered last year are still working out great. But even better than the parts was the service I got from etrailer. It was so great working with a company who took the time to listen to my project and help me get the right parts I needed, especially coming right off the heels of a terrible experience dealing with bad information and wrong parts from a competitor. Even with some damages in shipping, the returns/ and replacements were no hassle, with most issues being quickly resolved and not even costing me any additional downtime. As a contractor keeping a small fleet rolling, your competency and professionalism have made me a customer for life!! You guys at etrailer will be my first stop for trailer parts.

Welds looked good however the assembler failed to rotationally align the weld on spindle/brake mounts properly. One was about 3 degrees off and the other side was an 9.5 degrees from the 12 oclock position. Not sure about the thickness of the tube. Kind of strange to look at when the top of the brake system is not at 12 oclock. Found this after I removed the spring pads on this 2.1 degree camber axle so I had to jig the tube to fine zero toe to locate the new pads as the 2.1 camber tube changes wheel alignment depending on the bend/ springpad relationship. Not sure the AVG JOE is going to be able to move the spring pads when the brake mounts can't be used as a reliable ref point. If the toe is off from improper pad rotational location. the trailer will eat tires at best or worse cause a loss of controlled tracking and someone could get get killed.

Replaced the old axles with these on my 7x16’ equipment trailer, been nothing but amazing since I’ve installed them. Hauled thousands of pounds since and with minor greasing and normal maintenance they’ve been great.

by:

So far performing well. Have not been able to use trailer yet as much as I wanted to, don't use the grease nipples. Its easy to regrease without.

by:

Everything is working perfect with that replacement axle. I have definitely put it to the test a lot of miles with a lot of weight. Very highly recommended.

by:

I haven’t installed the axle yet, but it looks to be pretty solid. Time will tell. Irrelevant to the axle, but I have to touch up some paint where UPS dropped it down on my concrete. Not a big deal though. It’s going to get beat up by road debris anyway.

by:

Very easy installation. Everything fit perfect.

by:

Always hair free when I buy from ev tra iler

by:

The mounts were 1/2 inch closer than advertised. I was able to persuade the springs inward to compensate. Good price and fast shipping.

by:

Axle arrived fast, was exactly what I ordered and needed. Install went well with no problems.

by:

Received. Cannot use till all parts come

by:

The axle was exactly what I ordered and showed up much quicker than I expected. I installed it in about an hour. Good quality. Having the wire for the brakes already ran inside the axle made it very easy to rewrite the brakes, nice feature.

by:

Worked great on my trailer.
It is a older
trailer and I needed to move the anchor points on the axel but that was not difficult to have done.
Axel works great.
I love the easy grease feature.

  • How to Determine Replacement Boat Trailer Axle
In order to choose the correct replacement axle for your trailer you will need to know the dimensions of your current axle's hub face to hub face and spring center to spring center; I have added a link below to a video which walks you through how to measure. The other thing you need to know is the weight capacity of the axle you need, which should match or exceed the GVWR of your trailer. For example, the Trailer Idler Axle Beam # e48GR has a 2,000 lb capacity and measures 60 inches from...

  • How to Pick Out Replacement Trailer Axle for Fayette
We don't have a way to look up exactly what axle you need based on what you listed but we can still help. When picking out an axle for a trailer you'll need to know the overall length of it from hub face to hub face as well as the distance between the spring seat centers to pick out correct size. I also attached a link to a page with all of the axles we carry. To pick out replacement leaf springs you would need to know the axle capacity and length of your current springs.

  • Is There a Replacement Hub for Trailer with LM11948 Outer Bearing
I do have an option for you although we don't have a set of hubs which use the LM11948 bearing. Therefore, the only option we can offer is a new axle which allows you to upgrade to a standard hub/drum and braking assembly. In order to choose the correct replacement you'll need to know the weight capacity, hub face length, and spring center length. The Trailer Idler Axle Beam with Easy Grease Spindles part # e48GR for example has a 2,000 lb weight capacity, measures 60" long at the hub face,...

  • Will Trailer Idler Axle Beam with Easy Grease Spindles - 2,000 Lbs Work with Old Hubs
The Trailer Idler Axle Beam with Easy Grease Spindles part # e48GR uses L44649 inner and outer bearings so as long as your old hubs use these same bearings they will work grease with this axle. If you are replacing the axle with one that has the same weight capacity then yes, you can reuse all your old components such as hubs/drums, idler hubs, or braking assemblies.

  • Recommended Replacement for a 2K Lippert Torsion Axle
I did some digging around and I was able to find out that those are 2K axles, however unfortunately we don't carry torsion axles. With that being said, we do still have other options for you to look it if you're interested like the Trailer Idler Axle Beam with Easy Grease Spindles # e48GR. This is just a 2K axle beam that measures 60" from hub face to hub face, 48" from spring seat to spring seat, and has built in easy grease straight spindles. I wasn't able to find out the measurements...

  • Should There Be a Washer Between Outer Bearing and Castle Nut on etrailer 2,000 lb Trailer Axle
It is not required to install a washer between the outer bearing and the castle nut on the Trailer Idler Axle Beam with Easy Grease Spindles part # e48GR. That said, it's not a bad idea to use one and I recommend this to ensure there is no damage to the outer bearing. For this, we have the Washer For 1" Spindle part # SW1000.

  • Will The Trailer Idler Axle Beam Work With Dexter 8-01A Hubs?
I wasn't able to find any information on your Dexter hubs, however the Trailer Idler Axle Beam with Easy Grease Spindles # e48GR that you mention will work with a Replacement Trailer Hub Bearing # L44649 and the Grease Seal # 58846. So, as long as your Dexter 8-01A hubs have the same measurements, this should fit with no issues.

  • 60 inch 2k Trailer Axle for PWC Trailer
Based on the dimensions you mentioned the axle part # e48GR is the correct replacement. Your hubs part # 8-91-05UC1-EZ are also the correct fit as well. These two options are the best priced solutions that would fit your trailer.

  • Recommended 2,000 Lb Trailer Axle with Brakes for Small Trailer
The best option we could provide you with is the Trailer Idler Axle Beam part # e48GR which measures 60" long and has a 2,000 lb weight capacity. It's not setup for brakes so in order to equip them you'd need to have a brake mounting flange welded on, the Brake Mounting Flange for 1-3/4" Round Trailer Axles part # 4-34. This will then allow you to add brakes like the Electric Trailer Brake Kit part # AKEBRK-2 and hubs/drums like the Easy Grease Trailer Hub and Drum Assembly for 2K Axles...

  • Solution for Replacement Hubs on Northern Tool Ultra-Tow 49803 Aluminum Trailer
The bearings on your Ultra-Tow trailer are the 30205. Unfortunately, we don't carry any hubs that use this bearing combination. They aren't the easiest to find and I doubt you'll find them galvanized. There may be a 5 lug option out there but again it isn't something that we have. It is also worth mentioning that clearance could be an issue moving to a larger tire so keep that in mind. If you aren't able to find a replacement that fits your criteria with those bearings the second best...

  • Option For 60 Inch Trailer AxleSince it appears nobody makes hubs for my
We do have axles with 60 inch hub face to hub face measurements. This is a 2,000 lb axle, though the spring centers measure 48 inches. What you can do though is have new springs welded on at the location you need with Spring Seat # TRSS175. This axle is the Trailer Idler Axle Beam with Easy Grease Spindles - 60" Long - 2,000 lbs # e48GR. Then for the hubs, the right one for you will depend on if you need a hub with a 4 on 4" bolt pattern or 5 on 4-1/2" bolt pattern, as well as your wheel...
