Determining the Bolt Pattern

The first number in the bolt pattern is the number of bolt holes. The second number denotes the diameter, in inches, of the circle on which the bolt holes sit.

Bolt Pattern - Even

On wheels with an even number of bolt holes, measure from the center of one bolt hole to the center of the hole directly across from it. (Example: 8 on 6-1/2 means 8 bolt holes with 6-1/2" from the center of one hole to the center of another on the opposite side.)

Bolt Pattern - Odd

To determine the bolt-circle diameter on wheels with an odd number of bolt holes, measure from the center of any bolt hole to the point halfway between the two bolt holes directly across from the first. (Example: 5 on 4-1/2 means 5 bolt holes with 4-1/2" measured to a point halfway between the opposite bolt holes.)

Bolt Pattern - Side

Measuring the distance (D) from the center of one bolt hole on the wheel to the center of a bolt hole right next to it can also help to determine the bolt pattern.

  • If D = 2-5/8", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 4-1/2"
  • If D = 2-3/4", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 4-3/4"
  • If D = 3", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 5"
  • If D = 3-1/4", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 5-1/2"

Hubs arrived poorly packed, which resulted in the bearings being damaged in the box. Etrailer sent new bearings out however this still caused me to have to wait even longer to get my trailer back together. All of this could have been fixed by proper packaging before shipping.

by:

Threads were flattened on some of the studs from the hubs tumbling around in the box. Brown packaging paper was in the bottom of the box but offered no protection. Hubs could have been rapped with the brown paper to prevent metal to metal damage. Just saying what it is...

by:

Exactly what I needed to renew an older trailer.

by:

Going to be used as a spare for the boat. A bearing was damaged in shipping, but customer service was awesome. Great company!

by:

Hubs are well built with races already pressed into place. Lugnuts included. Galvanized to keep them rust free for years. One thing that could be better is package of bearings. They were in a bag with lugnuts, grease cap, and seal. Bearings might get damaged but overall great product.

by:

I feel very comfortable having put these on my Jet Ski Trailer. Races already installed, greased everything up and it rolls like a champ. I did have to change the seals on them due to my trailer needing a smaller diameter seal.

by:

Fast and accurate service, even was delivered a day early

by:

Product was exactly as described and was packaged well. The race sleeve was already installed which made assembly very easy.
Would purchase again.

by:

Good setvice. Just what I ordered.

by:

I will always get my trailer needs here it's easy and convenient

by:

Will at etrailer was very helpful in determining what parts I needed on an old and not maintained jet ski trailer. The hub, bearings etc got here a day or two earlier than I thought I would get them. Installed them the following morning and everything fit perfectly.
I will use again and definitely would recommend.

Still working great.

by:

Delivered timely and product as specified. Not the first time I've ordered from e-trailer and as always they are good to their word

by:

These fit perfect

They allowed me
to bolt on some nice American racing rims with the Ford bolt pattern

The boat trailer looks so much better now

Thank you for a good quality product and fast shipping

by:

Hubs are ok, were sent with cheap Chinese bearings, which I refuse to use on a trailer for a $50,000 boat. Had to order USA bearings from another supplier

by:

Dust covers do not fit hub. They are to wide at the base to fit into the supplied hub. I tried sanding them down and also gently using a rubber mallet while rotating around the cover to try and get it in. Still do not fit, I'm a pretty experienced shop worker as well.

Kenny, Thank you for your review. The grease caps that come with this hub are designed to fit a 1.980 hub bore. Sometimes it can be a tight fit. If you tried tapping them in with a rubber mallet and it did not work, you may want to measure the diameter of the grease cap.

Looks like the diameter is the right size. I think the spindles are just a little to long/deep for the cap.

by:

The hubs and bearings were all mfg'd in China and seem to be just fine. They went together nicely and went onto the old groaty spindles with only a little persuasion. I think it might be worth saying that the "galvanized" finish on the hubs is really not traditional hot dipped galvanizing. . .perhaps some sort of electro plating. However, plain uncoated black iron hubs will last 20 years or more trailering into salt water, so it's certainly not an issue. The big takeaway here ought to be how great the customer service and delivery are, always, at etrailer. In this case it was Pamela who helped me work my way through what would be the right bearings and hubs. . .lovely lady who took good care of my confusion and uncertainty. And George let me know they'd shipped the morning after I ordered them at bedtime. Talk about quick! And they got to Seattle a day before promised. What's not to like!!?

by:

etrailer is the best, I placed a order for two hub assemblies, and two wheels with tires. shortly after ordering, they quickly informed me that the hubs were, out of stock, they recommended a suitable replacement, they changed my order to reflect and everything show up just two days later. quality parts, everything fit and functioned correctly. was able to get snowmobile trailer all ready for winter much cheaper and quicker then I anticipated. thank you etrailer, would order form again and again. fast response, knowledgeable, respectful and great products!.

by:

Bought a used homemade utility trailer and the hubs were in such a neglected shape that I gave up on them. I got the galvanized hub kits and it was a snap to get the trailer going. I had already spent about 3 hours (in a hot storage building) on the old ones. With the hub kits it only took me about 11/2 hours from start to finish. It was worth every cent for the new ones. The ordering process made it very easy to get the correct parts.
Thanks,
Donald H.

As usua with your company, excellent merchandise at very good price! I will continue to make etrailer my go to source!l

THE QUALITY OF THE TRAILER HUBS WERE OUTSTANDING.WHAT I LIKED MOST WAS THE RACES WERE INSTALLED.I NEEDED A GOOD QUALITY HUB ASSEMBLY FOR MY BOAT TRAILER AS I DRIVE ALOT OF LOGGING ROADS IN NORTHEN MAINE TO GET TO REMOTE LAKES AND PONDS.I GOT CONFIDENCE THAT THIS PRODUCT WILL HOLD UP TO THE ROAD CONDITIONS.I ALSO ADDED BEARING BUDDIES TO MAINTAIN THE HUBS FOR A LONG TIME TO COME

by:

The fit, quality and finish on the hubs and bearings seems OK.

When tapping the first dust cover in with a rubber mallet it dented. The second was too large and I was not able to install it. The thickness of the covers is so thin I think I could crush them with my hands. I ended up using the old ones.

This does not help my expectation for the life of the bearings.

by:

Short one lug nut, other than that all products look good.
Can't give you 5 stars.

Well I can say I dont like the Chinese wheel bearings so much had one go out. First time i had a wheel bearing ever go out. It was the front one that didnt make sense. Had to leave the boat along side the Road and i didnt like that to much.

by:

Good product. Used in high salinity bay (saltwater use) has held up to corrosion.
Unfortunately I had to purchase separate size seals due to my trailer's axle size is different than what came with the kit.

by:

Perfect match to replace a set of rusted-out originals and everything I needed was there. Very pleased with the etrailer.com site with all of the information to help make the right selection. Definitely raising the bar for on line shopping for replacement parts!

by:

Solid replacements to the old, rusted out hubs that were on the trailer from previous lack of care... Look forward to many years of use with these, especially after treating them with FluidFilm

  • How to Tell if Trailer has a BT8 or BTR Spindle Installed
A BT8 spindle would have a diameter of .99 of an inch where the bearings would both install and would have a diameter of 1.24 where the great seal would ride. That would require a hub part # AKIHUB-440-2-1K for an idler hub. A BTR spindle would have dimensions of 1.06 inch for outer and inner bearing plus 1.50 inch where grease seal would install. That would require an idler hub part # AKIHUB-545-2-G-2K.

Since you need # L44643 bearings with an ID of 1" and a 4 on 4 bolt pattern the correct part would be the Trailer Idler Hub Assembly for 2,000-lb Axles - 4 on 4 - Galvanized # AKIHUB-440-2-G-1K. Based on the 1.06 inch measurement you provided for your trailer spindles, you need a replacement hub assembly that uses the # L44649 inner and outer bearing. It might also be a good idea just to verify this by pulling an existing hub and checking for the bearing numbers that should be stamped onto the bearings themselves. I went out to our warehouse and measured an outer bore diameter of 2-1/4 inches on the etrailer.com Trailer Idler Hub Assembly # AKIHUB-545-2-G-2K that you referenced. The reason we don't typically list this dimension on our trailer hubs is because a vast majority of trailer wheels are lug centric and not hub centric, which just means that the wheels are secured by the lugs instead of centered on the hub. Because of this the only thing you need to make sure of is that your wheels have a...
