This is a nice piece. Unfortunenately it did not fit my application. My channel is wider.May be because of the hydraulic coupler for the old hydraulic brakes was 3.5". I swapped to electric and just wanted a standard coupler.I have not found the one I need yet. But it does look nice.

by:

Good quality, worked as it should. etrailer service is outstanding and pricing is great.

by:

I put this eTrailer straight tongue trailer coupler on a garden cart/trailer that came with a pin type hitch. It has a 2.5 inch wide tongue so this coupler fit perfectly snug on my application. So my 4 wheeler and tractor style mower both have 2 inch balls and this keeps it where I have the same hitch setup on everything. Expect to get a garden tractor mower soon and will put one of eTrailer's hitch balls on it as well.

Working hard and still working

by:

Was what I wanted. Order and delivery was quick and easy.

by:

Exactly as described!

by:

Just received it today - appears exactly as advertised, heavy duty unit for its capacity rating, well made. Putting it on a small landscaping trailer so that all my trailers use the same size 2" ball for convenience. Good value, prompt service, recommend.

Works just fine, I like the trouble-free, fast and secure latching system

by:

I bought the item to convert my 10 cubic foot lawn cart to ball and hitch. Took me 15 minutes to install it. I also bought the Snapper Pin 14-134TR with it based on another review. Good idea. Makes it very convenient to be safe by locking out the latch. I used the chain for the pin that comes with it to make sure it doesn't get lost. I would also recommend using SAE grade 8 bolts for any hitch along with lock nuts. My two experiences with etrailer.com have been very good.

by:

Since my heavy-duty utility trailer used a 2 inch ball I wanted to change the 1-7/8 inch coupler on my light-duty utility trailer to a 2 inch ball also. I have always received quality items in a timely manner from etrailer so I ordered the 2 inch coupler and received it, again, in a timely manner. The forward mounting holes were not in the same location as the old coupler so I simply drilled new ones to accommodate the bolts and assembled it. It works just great.

by:

The only reason I do not give you 5 stars is because your web site. When internet ordering, it should instantly state when a part is out of stock. Even nicer would be expected restocking dates. The parts received were exactly what I ordered for my electric brake conversion from surge brakes at far less expense than reparing the internally rusted surge brake system. There was a plethora of information on your web site to assist me in ordering the correct parts for the conversion. Plus there were videos to see how to complete the conversion and how parts were installed and adjusted. Customer service was excellent.

by:

I like the coupler. I like the way it bolts on from the top on my John Deere trailer. The top two holes match the holes on the coupler. Only because the holes in the coupler are large enough to match the smaller holes in the tongue. Now I'm not afraid of pinching my fingers with the old method. I use a John Deere 125.

by:

A pleasant surprise. Low cost, and high quality. Easy installation, pre-drilled for attachment to trailer tongue. I installed it on a lawn mower type trailer so I could use a ball instead of a pin. It couples to the lawn mower much more easily, and does not jerk around by pushing and pulling against the pin. Highly recommended.

by:

Everything that I have ordered has been better than expectations. And has been simple to no problem finding everything that I have needed to restore my grandfather's 1950 boat trailer down to the rims and tires.

by:

My 2" trailer tongue arrived today. When I opened the box the tongue was padded very nicely. The packaging was great. I believe the trailer tongue is a great value for the price. Very heavy duty quality. Thank you for a positive transaction, John

by:

No way I could have found a coupler for 2-1/2" channel locally. I replaced the coupler on my old utility trailer and this is much beefier than what was on it. Who says they don't make things like they used to?

by:

Good product, fit tight on 2 1/2 inch channel used a rubber mallet to coax it down for holes to line up on the trailer tongue. I would recommend it to anyone.

by:

No problems. Worked as expected for intended use on light duty trailer.

working well after 1 year

by:

I found e trailer when looking to change a trailer attachment from 1 7/8 to 2". Their website was easy to use, they shipped and I received it when they said I would. I would use them again. Barry

by:

Purchased this to replace a damaged trailer tongue. This was a good heavy duty tongue and replacement went smoothly

by:

Coupler appears very well made..heavy materials, nice plating, good fit and finish.
Plan to use it on a yard cart in lieu of the clevis hitch coupler and this size fits the tongue well.

by:

I need to return as it is too wide. It is 2.5" wide and I need 2" wide.

That is a bummer! Customer Service will be in touch to assist with the return. The coupler that you need would be part # CT-3001-Z for a two inch wide channel.

by:

everything was of high quality and delivered on time! appreciated the communication and tracking of my shipment and the follow up by etrailer

by:

The trailer part we ordered came very quickly and it's the correct part. etrailer does a good job and we are always happy.

by:

Haven't installed it yet, seems that it will work for the build with 2.5" square tubing.

by:

great price, nice product especially to bolt them to aluminum trailers.

  • Recommended Coupler for Custom Kayak Trailer
For your small kayak trailer, I recommend the Fulton Fas-Lok Coupler # F222000301. This will give you a 2 inch ball compatibility along with the ability to use a 2 inch square bar that you'd need to obtain locally to give you the length you need. That size will fit a standard 2 inch receiver tube if that is what is on your trailer. If you need a 2-1/2 inch bar compatibility, then I recommend the coupler # CT-3002-Z. For a 3 inch bar compatibility, I recommend the # CT-3003-Z coupler....

  • Weld Reese 74950 Tow Champ to Trailer
The Reese 74950 Tow Champ is not designed for the purpose of welding it to the front of a trailer to create a trailer tongue. If you are looking for parts to custom fabricate an item then I suppose you can start with something such as this, but that is not its intended purpose. We do carry the Channel Tongue Trailer Coupler, # CT-3002-Z and the Bulldog Collar-Lok style, # BD028382.

  • Determining the Axle Location on Homemade Travel Trailer
For your axle placement you will use the attached article to determine the distance between your trailer coupler and axle to get that 10% tongue weight desired. Because you have a torsion axle it will be much easier to test your theory to really pin point your desired tongue weight. I can't just give you a dimension because the coupler weight needs to be integrated in the equation. For instance the coupler # CT-3002-Z has a weight of 5 lbs that would be added to the pole tongue to...

  • Is There a Difference Between A-Frame and Straight Tongue Trailer Couplers
Yes there is a difference between couplers for an a-frame trailer and a straight tongue trailer. They are a very different design so if you have an a-frame trailer you'd need something like the # CA-5210-B which you can see matches the shape of the a-frame or for a straight tongue you'd want the # CT-3002-Z.

  • Trailer Jack for Trailer With Non-Traditional Trailer Tongue
The only option to add a jack to your trailer with that tongue would be to drill in and attach it to the front of the trailer itself. You could use the Round Swivel Marine Jack w/ Wheel # MJ-1206B and bolt it straight onto the frame instead of using the brackets to go around the frame. What I would really recommend is cutting off that trailer tongue and adding a new one. This would allow you to install a trailer jack on the tongue itself. Also, I'm not sure how that trailer is towed, but...

  • Replacement Coupler for Shelby 5133
You'll need a new coupler as the Shelby brand of coupler repair kits are no longer available. So for that the # CT-3002-Z would be a really great option. This fits the same frame dimensions as what you have now and also fits a 2 inch ball. The mounting holes of this are 3 inches apart.

  • Measurements on the Channel Tongue Trailer Coupler
The distance between the mounting holes is going to be the same between each one, or between each set. Center on center, they're going to be separated by 3 inches and the mounting holes are going to have a diameter of 1/2 inch. The channel width on the unit, inside edge to inside edge measures 2-1/2 inches.

  • Why Would Coupler Fit Too Tightly to Hitch Ball
Sounds like you are talking about the adjustment hardware for the coupler latch. It may be too tight and you'd just need to loosen it a bit so that it secures to the hitch ball but doesnt' hold it too tight.

  • Trailer Coupler for 2-1/2 inch Wide Tongue for 2 inch Hitch Ball
We have couplers that match most of what you are looking for like with the etrailer coupler part # CT-3002-Z as this fits a 2-1/2 inch wide trailer tongue, fits a 2 inch ball, but the mounting holes are 3 inches apart instead of 4. We don't have anything that has 4 inches here.

  • Can I Replace the Bolt in My Surge Coupler to Secure it in Place?
I have a solution for you. I went ahead and reached out to my contact at Dexter Axle, and they recommended replacing the surge coupler with a standard weld on or bolt on straight tongue coupler. This is the safest way. They could not confirm for sure whether drilling a hole/installing a bolt would affect the stability or strength of the coupler. For a standard coupler, I recommend the Channel Tongue Trailer Coupler # CT-3002-Z along with the 2" Hitch Ball # C40004. If you need a hitch...

  • Will 3 Inch Channel Coupler Work With 2-1/2 Inch Trailer Tongue?
The Demco Channel Tongue Trailer Coupler - Zinc - 2" Ball - 3" Channel - Bolt On - 10,000 lbs # DM12717 will not work on a 2-1/2 inch tongue. Instead I recommend the Fulton Fas-Lok Coupler, 2" Ball, 2-1/2" Channel - 3,500 lbs # F222500301 or etrailer option # CT-3002-Z. Either of these options will fit your tongue and will work with the 2 inch hitch ball. The weight capacity is significantly less with the couplers that fit 2-1/2 inch tongues so please note that difference.

  • Do Any of the 2" Trailer Couplers for 2-1/2" Frames Have 2-1/2" Bolt Centers
I do have an option but the straight tongue trailer coupler options for a 2-1/2" frame all have a 3" spacing. I recommend using the Channel Tongue Trailer Coupler part # CT-3002-Z and just drilling another hole on the frame to match this setup. This would be your only option due to the really odd spacing you said you had.

  • What is the Tongue Weight of the etrailer.com Coupler CT-3002-Z
I spoke to a technician about the tongue weight on the etrailer.com # CT-3002-Z, and it would be up to 15% of the 3,500 capacity. This would give you a maximum tongue weight capacity of 525 pounds. As to the length, it really shouldn't make too much of a difference. As long as the coupler is fastened securely to the tongue of the trailer and the weight does not exceed 525 pounds, you should be perfectly fine. I will say, however, that it never hurts to load the trailer up several ways...
