Determining the Axle Location on Homemade Travel Trailer

Question:

Trailer is 17.5 feet long from coupler to end of frame. Total weight about 2200 llbs. It is a travel trailer. Trying to place the axle so I have 220 lbs hitch weight. Building from scratch, frame up with tortion axle. Thanks

For your axle placement you will use the attached article to determine the distance between your trailer coupler and axle to get that 10% tongue weight desired. Because you have a torsion axle it will be much easier to test your theory to really pin point your desired tongue weight.

I can't just give you a dimension because the coupler weight needs to be integrated in the equation. For instance the coupler # CT-3002-Z has a weight of 5 lbs that would be added to the pole tongue to determine part of the equation.
