Today were going to take a quick look at the Bulldog Collar-Lok Coupler with Pin part number BD028242. Bulldog covers this coupler with a limited 5-year warranty. It has a gross trailer capacity of 5,000 lbs. and a tongue capacity of 750 lbs. Its a weld-on style coupler that you can weld directly to the frame of your trailer. Its a round tube set up and the round tube has a 2-1/4 inch outer diameter and a 1-3/4 inch inner diameter.
Its designed to be used with 2-inch trailer balls. The coupler has an overall length of about 10-3/4 inches. Now well show you how this system works. This collar has to slide back to release the jaws on the head of the coupler. With this pin in the way the collar cant slide back far enough to allow the jaws to release and open all the way up.
Well unhook our pin and then slide it out. Now the pin is on a lanyard here attached to the collar just so you dont lose it. Now we take our coupler, slide the collar back, the jaw comes open. Well show you how it works. We have a 2-inch trailer ball here.
Youll fit the coupler over your ball while holding the coupler back you can let the jaw close around the ball. This wrap around design gives good even contact all the way with the ball to make tracking the trailer behind your vehicle nice and easy. Well take another look at how it works, well slide the collar back and the jaw will release and you can remove the coupler from the trailer ball. Once you have the coupler secured around the ball all you have to do is take the pin, reinsert it through the coupler and secure it with its clip on the other side. I had ordered three items from trailer and all arrived on time, in good condition and in one box. The coupler is well made and the trailer and coupler are at the welding shop. Since I have to store my trailer in a location several miles from my home ,the only addition I will make to the coupler will be a lock.

item worked as expected. I used the product to create a push bar to move vehicles in and out of my shop. by putting one of these couplers on either end of a pipe, I am able to move non running vehicles in and out of my shop as needed.

Five star service from etrailer, and maybe a two or three-star product from Bulldog. Aside from the rust and the fact that the collar is so stiff that it can't be operated by hand, the fabrication on the steel attachment plate is poor. The holes for the tongue jack are punched out, twice in some cases, resulting in an enlarged hole, but there are no threads for the tongue jack so you'll have to fumble around and use nuts underneath. The vertical angles on the steel are wrong, so it will splay out at the bottom and won't fit tightly to the A-frame and you will need to shim it out. The interior of the casting is full of weld spatter that will chafe the tow ball. I bought the less-expensive Ram sleeve-lock coupler under a Curt label and the fabrication is much better, having none of the problems the BullDog did. etrailer kindly sent me an RMA to return the BullDog.

The best coupler we have used for our construction business. I have been using these for 14 years now without any problems. We replace them every 5 years at about 160,000 miles when we purchase new trailers. I currently need three now but they have been out of stock for several months. Still waiting for new stock to arrive so I can order. I feel safe with this type coupler and my employees also like the security it provides.

Don’t buy this!!! It literally does not work. You can’t open the coupling because it was built incorrectly. There isn’t enough room to slide the coupling back. Of course I didn’t realize this until I had mounted it on my trailer. etrailer customer service is about to get an earful!

The Bulldog coupler is SO MUCH easier to hitch up and disengage than my previous coupler which required several back and forth movements of my tow vehicle to engage/disengage the hitch ball.

Heavy duty, clean - no bulk to deal with and can step on the tongue easily to climb up, etc. Perfect for up to 7K# trailer. When it is latched, it is latched and in the truck and away you go! Great Bulldog product.
