The items I ordered will allow me to adapt my utility trailer for transporting my sea kayaks. Curt and Hopkins are both quality manufacturers.
On a shipping note, the box arrived at the Post Office broken wide open. Your shipping folks need to wrap small, heavy, items in bubble wrap. Then stabilize it with foam peanuts. Just putting it in a box then stuffing the box with craft paper does not cut it. Items were not damaged so I am good to go.

by:

Works great and reasonably priced. etrailer Customer Service is absolutely the very best. My first shipment arrived missing the hitch extension. Customer Service quickly responded to my communications and shipped a replacement the same day.
As you can see from the photo the hitch extender is perfect for my Polaris Ranger and allows me to use my small lawn n yard implements.
I highly recommend etrailer.

This extender does a pretty good job of keeping my bike away from the rear radar system in my Venza so the backup warning system does not engage in error. Beware it’s pretty heavy.

Still working as a year ago.

by:

This hitch adapter has worked perfectly as an extension for using a bike rack that extends past the trailer spare tire.

by:

The extension works perfectly on my class C motor home. Now my cargo carrier doesn't interfere with the back ladder.

by:

perfect length for my specific application. Because the end piece is solid I was not able to insert an anti-rattle device into it. Therefore I will probably weld the extender to the double receiver since it'll be a permanent application.

by:

Good quality for fair price. The perfect extension I needed for my fifth wheel to install a bike raxk

by:

I had a problem with my order, which called for the order to be sent again. I received the second order in two days, which was greatly appreciated! The items I received were exactly what I wanted and high quality. The customer service to fix my order problem was excellent!

by:

This product is solid and clearly can handle the weight load as stated.

by:

Fits trailer perfectly...arrived in ti.ely fashion...thank you

by:

Curt’s brand, only the best! USA made, The shaft that goes into the hitch is solid steel not the hollow China crap. I used the hitch extension to make a rear hitch step 12” wide by 38” long for my ford van. I strap my kayaks on top for when we go camping this step just gives me that need height to get them in the kayak saddles before I climb on top to tie them down. I put two kayaks on top so the 38” across comes in handy. With my front hitch I can also put it in the front when I’m working on my van or truck to give me that extra hieght - I’m 6’ and I can’t reach a lot of stuff, even cleaning the windshield.

by:

Good work, efficient servive

by:

Box was damaged and there was no item in box I already called and spoke to a nice customer service lady

by:

I had a back ordered item that eventually came along with some other items I ordered at the same time. I’m not good about waiting but the wait was worth it as the entire order came a couple days ago and I immediately started using the items. Thanks for getting it right.

Works very well just like advertised.

by:

The weld looks solid, but needs ground down, or the hole drilled in a different location. The weld prevented the holes to line up. I had to go get a grade 5 1/2" bolt to secure it in place, rather than a hitch pin.

by:

It is pretty long so works well with exterior spare tire vehicles or if you want access to truck tailgates down with load extenders. Have not used it in that capacity as of yet.

by:

I order a 14" steel (2" type) hitch extension and I received a heavy steel, well-made extension; as advertised. eTrailer found that upgraded faster shipping was available at the same price as regular slower shipping, so they upgraded me. Very nice service!

by:

This product is well built and quality! It allows me to use the hitch platform on my Jeep liberty without having to remove the spare tire. Exactly what I was looking for and a quick delivery as well! Great investment.

by:

Thank you for your email, I was amazed how quick I received my item. Just bought a newtruck I tow an atv and on my old truck I dented up my tailgate from the device that lowers and raises the trailer, this extender did the trick, now the tailgate on my new truck won't get all screwed up.

by:

Works great had one on my Motorhome it broke had to buy a new one on the road way to long

Hasnt given me any problems yet

by:

Worked great ! Solved problem opening tailgate on jeep tj with spare tire mounted. Opens enough to reach in .

by:

Just what it says fits great. eTrailer is fast and easy as always. Great experience shopping with.

by:

Great service!!

by:

Product is just what we needed and we put it to use immediately with no problems. It enables us to freely engage the rear lift door of our vehicle with my handicap scooter loaded on it's carrier. Great for us.

by:

Ordered a 14 inch trailer extension and the quality is a 10 out of 10. Probably weighs 25lbs. Was very quickly sent to me, really days before I expected it. Great company to do business with.

  • Will Curt Trailer Hitch for 2014 Hyundai Santa Fe Work to Provide Turning Clearence While Towing
The Curt Hitch Extender for 2" Trailer Hitches part # C45795 provides a 14" extension when measuring from the center of the hitch pin hole on one side to the other. I can't say for sure if this will provide the turning clearance you need but if you take a few measurements that should give you your answer. That said, there are stipulations to using an adapter and that's reduced capacity. The adapter will reduce the capacity of the hitch/vehicle to 350 lbs tongue weight and 3,500 lbs gross...

  • Clearance Behind Rear Mounted Spare Tire On Hummer H2
To determine if there is enough clearance from the rear mounted spare tire on your Hummer H2 for a Cargo or Motorcycle Carrier or hitch mounted bike rack you will want to take a couple measurements. You will need a tape measure and a straight edge, like a yardstick or a dowel. Hold the straight edge vertically against the back of the spare tire, and make sure the straight edge extends below the hitch pin hole on your hitch. Then measure the distance from the center of the hitch pin hole...

  • Is a Hitch Extender Recommended for Bike Carrier to Clear Spare Tire on a Travel Trailer
Using a hitch extender such as # C45795 will reduce the tongue weight capacity of the trailer hitch by 50 percent. It will all add additional stress to the hitch and to where it is mounted on your travel trailer. I do not recommend using an extender. Since you already have a bike rack that is compatible with the travel trailer the best solution would be to stow the spare tire in an alternate location. The benefit is that it won't cost you any money to do so and you will not have to worry...

  • How to Determine Correct Hitch Extender for Bike Rack on Jeep Wrangler with Rear Spare Tire
To determine the length you need measure from the hitch pin hole on your Jeep's trailer hitch receiver out to the edge of the spare tire. Then add an inch or so to give you a little space. Some extenders are only designed to be used to flat tow a vehicle and not to hold any tongue weight so make sure you choose an extender that is designed for carrying accessories since you're going to use it for a bike rack. Part # C45795 is a great 14 inch option. 37 inch tires are normally 12 or...

The maximum tongue weight capacity in any circumstance for the # C45795 hitch extender is 350 lbs. Keep in mind, though that using an extender will reduce the tongue weight and towing capacity of your hitch by 50% which will limit you to whatever the capacity of your lowest-rated component is. Because using the extender will reduce the tongue weight capacity to a large degree, I wouldn't recommend using an extender. • Can Hitch Extension Help Allow Truck to Lower Tailgate When Towing
A hitch extension does cut your trailer hitch capacity by 50 percent, but for as light of a trailer as you have and how heavy duty your tow vehicle is that wouldn't be an issue. So yes, a 14 inch hitch extension like the # C45795 would be a solid choice to allow you to drop your tailgate!

  • Solution for Clearing Spare Tire on Jeep Wrangler for Hitch Mounted Cargo Carrier
We do have a large selection of hitch extenders that are designed for exactly the situation you described in your question. The particular extender you choose will depend on how much distance you are needing in order to clear the spare tire on your Jeep Wrangler. I recommend taking a quick measurement from the center of the hitch pin hole on your hitch receiver, to the outermost edge of the spare tire. You will just need to make sure you pick an extender that will reach at least this distance....

  • Does Use of Cargo Carrier Reduce Trailer Hitch Capacity
Cargo carriers like the Curt carrier part # C18113 attached directly to a trailer hitch without the use of an extender like the part # C45795 do not cut the capacity of the hitch by 50 percent. If this carrier was installed in your hitch directly, you'd get the full capacity of the trailer hitch.

Hitch extenders typically cut the capacity of the hitch they are used on in half. However, if you have a 2-1/2 inch hitch installed the part # HR26 would be perfect as it is right at 12 inches. The good news is that with a 2-1/2 inch hitch the extenders only cut the capacity by 25 percent instead. You also will need to determine what the capacity is for your bumper as well and be sure not to exceed half of it's weight rating with the weight of what you plan to carry.
