Trailer Hitch Extender with a Step to Use on a Truck with In-bed Camper and to Tow a Trailer

Question:

We are looking for an extension solution for our truck camper that overhangs by about 18. Our truck is a Chevy 2500 HD and the trailer is a single axle trailer with a 1100 pound weight limit. We want to use a cargo tray and then haul the trailer with a raft. I have seen your other answers that state these tray extensions arent great for larger loads but wanted to know if hauling something light if it would work. Thanks in advance.

We actually have an extension that is 18 inches long, and has a built-in step on it. Take a look at # ST18. Like you have said, by using the extension the tongue weight capacity of the hitch is reduced by 50 percent. But as long as the tongue weight of the trailer does not exceed the reduced capacity you should be fine.

I would also urge you to disconnect the trailer before stepping on the step because the combined weight of a person on the step and the trailer tongue weight could exceed the reduced capacity of the trailer hitch.
