Slightly longer, so you can open your tailgate with a cargo trailer attached. Trailers with a tongue jack that is forward are problematic for tailgates...

by:

I’m pleased with the product and how prompt the delivery was. However the packaging was insufficient and the packaging was torn open all over. Scuffing of the finish is a result and of little consequence due to the intended use. It’s a stinger w/ball for motorhome. May I suggest better packaging in the future

by:

I didn’t receive the ball mount. Only thing in the box was anti rattle device

by:

This is really nice. Beveled edges so it slips into receiver hitch so sweet. Beautiful welds heavy weight mount for my weigh safe ball. I bought a 10,000 lbs hitch and I wanted a draw bar with the same type rating. Now the only thing limiting my trailer capacity is my truck's ability to tow, not the hitch, bar or ball.

by:

I purchased a Ranch Hand rear bumper for my 2500HD but wanted to retain the use of a receiver hitch. The ball mount would need to extend 8" from the pin hole to even reach the edge of the bumper. This BM29 ball mount works out perfect. The welds look great and the finish is just fine. The only complaint I have is they gained a little length by moving the pin hole a little closer to the end shortening the insertion amount slightly. Not a big deal, it is just noticable next to the other mounts I have at the house.

by:

The products themselves I’m sure will do the job. I’m very disappointed in how they arrived. Poorly packaged, one piece of paper wrap did nothing. There was a hole in the box from the hitch not being wrapped up. There are chips in the powder coat.

I will have our Customer Service team reach out to you. I recommend touching up the affected areas with a rust resistant paint such as Rustoleum.

by:

Needed to extend my hitch due to tailgate needing to be open. E-Trailer had this one on hand for a very decent price. Easy order, and fast shipping. Thank YOu.

by:

Just bought a set of front steps for my boat, and needed some extra length on the ball mount.
This mount fits the bill at 13 1/4 long

by:

Perfect size for a 2004 Jeep Liberty with spare wheel on back. Very nice quality. I can now mount my trailer hassle free.

by:

BM20 Long Drawbar. Perfect for my 2005 Jeep Liberty. I no longer have to remove the spare to tow. Solved what was a major pain!

by:

Great for chassis cab trucks with long boxes.

by:

Gives me the extra 6" extension I need so that the rear liftgate on my van can open without hitting the trailer jack, or the spare tire which I carry on the trailer tongue.

This is a VERY solid piece, would easily handle far more than my 300lb tongue weight.
As usual etrailer delivered exactly as promised.

its been hung on the back for a year. I never take it off.All kinds of weather, including Hurricane Matthew, Totally bulletproof.I have only one complaint, I bang my shins into it once in a whilewhen loading stuff in the back. But thats me, not the hitch. In a year its pulled 3 different boats, 2 different trailersand, in a pinch, anchor point for the chain while felling a tree.

Great

by:

This worked out perfectly. Had a flat bed put on one of our pickups, but the frame mounted hitch sat too far back from the new dock bumper. This ball mount moved it out just right so we didn't have to put a new receiver on the truck.

Holding up very well after a year.

by:

I love this trailer hitch for my truck because it allows freedom to put tailgate up and down when we do equestrian camping. It has been a great purchase.

Great!

by:

This product allowed me to open my deck lid on the tow vehicle while hitched. I love it, was delivered promptly and is excellent quality, could not love it more!
Also increased capacity from 600/6000 to 1000/10000 lbs. while not needed I like the safety of the margin.

Could not be happier, great item.

by:

Excellent, heavy duty, well built. HOWEVER, the width of the lip where the ball mounts is over a 1/4" wider than standard. This means standard accessories such as stabilizers and backup guides will not be able to be used with this ball mount.

Garry R.

3/31/2014

No change. I had to have a custom ball mount made because of the limitations of your product and the complete lack of anything else.

by:

Hard to find item. But extends trailer back enough to open tail gate without hitting jack crank. Was not available at Northern or other suppliers locally.

Product has worked out to exceed my expectations. In fact it makes my trailer easier to tow.

by:

I ordered the Dexter nev-er-adjust electric trailer brake and bearing kit's for my Aliner. The installation was easy thanks to your instructional video's. The delivery was fast and everything fit perfectly. I took one twelve hundred mile trip and had no issues. I also ordered the Brophy ball mount because it was long enough for me to drop my tailgate without hitting the hitch crank.

Thanks

by:

This was exactly what I was trying to find in various stores with no luck. Quality built, American made product. Gives me the little extra distance for turning and allows tailgate to drop without hitting trailer.

I love the hitch. However, the crime [chrome] has come off of the ball and it has rusted. The extended hitch has worked very well in towing and launching my boat.

by:

We got this so we could open our tailgate without having to unhitch the trailer. It works great! Product is good, service was fast... it made our trip to Alaska much happier (our dog needs the tailgate lowered so she can jump in and out for potty breaks). We still need to have the truck and trailer pretty much straight in line with each other... if there is too much angle left or right, we can't fully lower the tailgate. We drive a 2015 Ford F-150.

by:

I had never towed anything before and recently bought a small pop up camper. The Ball mount was to short for my 2011 Jeep Wrangler and I had to remove the spare tire each time to correctly hitch. This Ball mount is the perfect solution. Just the correct length to hitch up with out any more problems. Also better made and less expensive then the dealer sold me. By reading the questions asked by customers I was able to pick out the correct product. Great Web Site and Excellent service.

by:

Always have the products and ships immediately. Thank You

by:

This is exactly what I needed to get my hitch to extend past my spare tire on my Jeep Liberty. It could have been 2" longer, since the locking mechanism on the trailer is still tight to the spare. This was the best product that I could find to solve the problem.

  • Longer Ball Mount for 2019 GMC Acadia so Liftgate Clears Trailer
How much more clearance is needed? A standard ball mount usually measures between 8 and 9 inches long, measured from the hitch pin hole to the hole where the ball is installed. There are some longer fixed mounts available, the Curt # C45270 is 13 inches long which would provide 4 to 5 more inches than what you likely have now. A longer model is available, part # BM20, but that ball mount would only offer a 3/4-inch rise. You could go with an adjustable ball mount like the Curt # D900,...

  • Carry a Kayak Further Forward on a 2005 Nissan Pathfinder Factory Roof Rack
The first thing to check on your 2005 Nissan Pathfinder is the factory roof rack. Check to see if the crossbars can be moved forward. On many OEM roof racks this is the case so if you can move them forward then that would solve the issue. If they can't be moved, then you still have a couple of options. First and probably the easiest is to use a longer ball mount to move the trailer further away from the vehicle. The longest ball mount we have measures 13-1/4 inches from the center of the...

  • Option to Increase Turning Radius of Trailer Towing Setup Without Losing Weight Capacity
Hitch extenders can add enough length to give a better turning radius but the problem is that they cut the tongue weight capacity of the hitch by 50 percent. So your best option would be to go with a longer ball mount to gain the extra clearance without sacrificing capacity. For example we have the Brophy Ball Mount part # BM20 which is 13-1/4 inches in length and has the same 6,000 lb capacity as your vehicle. I attached a review video for this for more info as well.

  • Is Turning Radius Decreased when Using Bike Bunk Trailer Mount Bike Carrier
It is possible that using any type of carrier between the trailer and tow vehicle will reduce turning radius. The only way to know for sure is to have everything installed, loaded, and do a test run. But there are some things that would help to increase turning radius if diminished by using something like the Bike Bunk, # CC-275. If you run into reduced turning radius using a longer ball mount would help. We have a long ball mount # BM20 rated for 10,000 pounds gross trailer weight and...

  • Longer Weight Distribution Shank to Help with Truck Tailgate Clearance with Equal-i-zer System
So your best solution is actually going to be a longer weight distribution shank like the Curt # C17122 which is 18 inches long overall and 14 inches from the center of the hitch pin hole to the center of the holes on the vertical portion of the shank. Hitch extensions in general aren't a great idea as they cut capacity like you mentioned, but more importantly they are designed for use with weight distribution systems so you should not go that route. You can do that if you wish, but be aware that using an extension lowers the capacity of the hitch by 50 percent. The further the load gets extended away from the hitch, the more leverage is applied. This leverage can damage the hitch or cause it or its attachment points to the vehicle to fail. If you can get by with the reduced capacity, I'd recommend the the 14 inch # C45795 or the 18 inch # HE18. An extra long ball mount might be a good alternative. • Will Extra Long Ball Mount BM20 Decrease the Tongue Weight Capacity of a Trailer Hitch
No. Because ball mount # BM20 is not an adapter or extension, if used directly in the trailer hitch it will not decrease the tongue weight capacity enough (though it may decrease it only slightly) to be an issue. You will need to make sure that the combined trailer tongue weight, bike rack, and bikes does not exceed the 500 pound tongue weight capacity of the hitch. Also check the vehicle owner's manual for its tongue weight rating and if lower go by the lower rating.
