Can I Install An Extender On the Front Hitch For a 2016 Chevrolet Silverado 2500

Question:

The vertical load for this hitch is 500lb. How far from the front of the hitch is this load tested? If I put a 12 inch extension into the receiver, what load vertical load can I apply? I am building a motorcycle carrier for the front of the truck,. Thanks

If you were to use a 14" hitch extender like theCurt Hitch Extender for 2" Trailer Hitches - 14" Long # C45795 with a front mount trailer hitch like the Draw-Tite Front Mount Trailer Hitch Receiver part # 65078 then your new vertical load rating would be 250 lbs as most adapters like the above reduces the weight capacity of your hitch by 50%. I do not have an exact weight capacity per unit of measurement outward from the trailer hitch unfortunately as this is just not something that the manufacturer provides.

That said, if you install any sort of adapter on a trailer hitch a good rule of thumb is that the weight capacity will be reduced by 50% but it could be more. If so, the manufacturer of the adapter will give this capacity.
