Works well on my side by side to get the ball to a usable reach. The threaded pin makes it difficult to take on and off (can't use a non threaded in). I have to lay on the ground to do this. It does not rattle that is for sure so in an application where that is important, and where you have normal access I am sure it is fine. I simply needed this specific length.

by:

My wife and I purchased a travel trailer a year ago. The tailgate of my truck was too close to the trailer to allow it to open. I purchased the extension from you to eliminate that problem. I purchased this one because it is 2" solid and had a 10k rating.

by:

After 1 year, the outer lip has failed from having a anti-rattle device on it,the lip cracked in half and the welds broke

by:

Easy to install and hold up well.

by:

The extender was exactly what I needed and as always purchasing it from etrailer was a great experience. They have many options and by far the best customer service in the industry.

by:

Excellent hitch extender, very well built, arrived quickly.

by:

Super solid! Locks in tight. It’s a bit Heavyweight for the rack I bought it for to stabilize, but does EXACTLY What I need. This thing could handle a serious load.

by:

Bought this extension for use on my front Curt receiver hitch on my 2010 Ford Raptor (hitch is under the bumper). I looked at a few extensions in person before settling on this one. I figured if I really needed to use it with my winch, I didn't want to skimp on the extension. Recently I did have to use my winch and am glad I bought this unit. This extension is extremely heavy duty and worth the money if you need a heavy duty extension.

Still working fine.

by:

Etrailer always gives me what I want or they will make it right!

by:

Fast shipping and a good product.

by:

The product is exactly as advertised; high quality and well constructed. More importantly was etrailer's service. My order was lost during delivery by the delivery service and etrailer shipped a replacement right away. I have purchased from etrailer in the past and they always follow up and thank you for your business. That means a lot. Thank you etrailer for your good customer service.

I flat tow my Wranglar behind my Coachman Freelander. This extension hitch works perfect to extend the Motorhome hitch out from under the bumper. I’ve used it many times. Thanks etrailer.

by:

I have a 60" x 20" x 20" cargo basket carrier that I'm intending on using on my Class B+ Motor Home. With the 2" hitch on the coach is slightly recessed, this makes the basket carrier is too close that I'm unable to open it up. This extender will be the fix.
Impressed with the construction of this. The half that slides into existing 2" hitch is solid square stock (not tube steel)... Heavy Duty!
Was also very pleased with etrailers customer service / shipping. They upgraded me from standard to 2 day priority.
Thanks etrailer (and George D)

George,Thank you for your review.Just a reminder that hitch extenders such as part # RM-071-1075 do cut your tongue weight capacity by 50. That is including the weight of the carrier itself. I have attached a link for information on extenders and adapters.

by:

This receiver extension is perfect for my need. Recently purchased new E-Bikes and new bike rack. My installation excitement fell when the rack contacted the spare tire of our Jeep while raising to folded position and couldn't latch.
Found the right size and placed the order. "George" responded quickly to say the order was shipping that day! Then it was delivered one full day earlier than promised.
Extremely happy with the fit and quality and the Anti Rattle pin is great.
Thank you,

Thanks for the reply Mark C. I did want to let you know that using hitch extenders like this one will reduce the hitchs overall capacity by 50 percent. This is something to keep in mind especially considering your new e-bike. Please make sure that the hitch, bike rack and all other components are not exceeding the reduced tongue weight when using the hitch extender.

by:

The hitch does exactly what I need. The only knock on it I have is that the threads on the anti rattle bolt are rough where the hole was made for the pin to go through. The bolt is harder than the shaft of the hitch and partially stripped the threads in the hitch.

by:

I had to file the hitch pin hole to be able to insert the pin to secure ball hitch to the hitch extender.

by:

Really heavy duty. The anti rattle portion fits and secures it tightly. Using it to extend a front hitch receiver on my 2013 F150 to hold my Warn multi-mount winch.

Be aware that using a hitch extender will lower the vertical load and line pull capacity by half.

by:

Pros:
Works great for side-to-side
stabilization. If you want more security the hole in the bolt is large enough to put a small lock thru.

For up/down stabilization I added the Roadmaster Quiet Hitch and now all directions are very stable.

Cons:
Corner fillets in the receiver section are larger than other extenders or receivers so it may be a tighter fit than you are expecting.

by:

Exactly as described and what I wanted.

by:

Excellent product

by:

Perfect for us to extend from a very far back hitch on our LTV. This was very sturdy and allowed us to use our Swagman bike rack. The customer service was awesome. We didn’t know we were going to need before a very big trip and etrailer rushed it to us. Can’t say enough about their staff. Very pleased.

by:

We recently purchased a Road Master Spare Tire Carrier for our motorhome and found that it was just a couple inches too close to the rear hatch to allow us to open it to check fluids. Fount this item online and searched for a good deal with speedy delivery. eTrailer came through for us. Installation was very easy just as long as you have the right size tools. The item itself is very well made and matches the rest of the Road Master products. If you are looking to extend a hitch, you need to make sure your extension is as strong as the main hitch, you do not want to reduce your load capacity by using an under-sized extension. I can recommend both eTrailer and Road Master for this product without reservations.

by:

etrailer had just what I needed. I recently purchased a bike rack for our new electric bikes, but discovered that the handlebar on the "inner" bike hits the back side of our motorhome. I was looking for a non rattle hitch extension, and found it at etrailer.

This is one serious piece of steel!

by:

Works great for my Thule bike rack. Provides a solid and stable extension that allows me to open the back hatch with two bikes on the rack. Exceptionally fast service, great company to work with.

by:

The extender seems well built and should not have any problems pulling my trailer. I had two hitches to put in it. One did not fit because of the way it was designed. It had a slanted end that cause it to be a half inch to long to let the holes line up. The second one worked just perfectly.

by:

The hitch extender works perfectly. I use it on a Jeep Wrangler to extend a vertical kayak carrier past the spare tire on the back of the Jeep. The extender’s bolt tightens securely so there is no swaying or rattling. Excellent product.

The Roadmaster Hitch Extender # RM-071-1075 is 12 inches long and has a 350 lb tongue weight capacity and would work well for you. It covers the length and capacity needs and also fits the 2 inch hitch size of your 2015 Ford F-150.

Hey John, the reason you can't use a hitch extender like the part # RM-071-1075 is they cut the capacity of the hitch in half and you'd be over capacity since 320 lbs is more than half of 500 lbs (250 lbs).

The Roadmaster Anti-Rattle Hitch Extender for Tow Bars - 2" Hitches - 7-3/4" # RM-071-1075 has a maximum tongue weight of 400 pounds. The tongue weight is the downward force that the trailer exerts on the hitch. If you are looking for the gross trailer tow weight of the extender, that is 10,000 pounds. The gross towing weight is the amount of weight that pulls horizontally on the extender. This extender is your best choice because any extender we carry that is longer than 7-3/4 inches greatly...

You can use hitch extender # RM-071-1075 for things other than flat towing a vehicle. It will fit any 2 inch trailer hitch receiver. Provided the weight of the items used in the extender are under the reduced tongue weight capacity of the hitch you will be good to go.

  • Recommendation to Gain Clearance for Tailgate with Weight Distribution System Installed
Using a hitch extender like you mentioned will give you the needed clearance but it will also reduce the weight capacity of your trailer hitch by 50 percent. This is because of the extra play/movement and instability that adding another component causes. This along with their lower base ratings to begin with (as you mentioned) means that your best option is to just use a longer adjustable shank for your weight distribution system.
