Video Transcript for etrailer 14 inch Long Trailer Hitch Extender Review

There are a lot of different reasons why we need to extend our hitch receiver. Whether you're just trying to be able to fold up your cargo carrier, maybe your bike rack won't even fit inside there with a spare tire or whatever the reason is. But also just for your towing, a lot of the times you run into issues like we have right here where this is pretty much unusable. And then even with our other one, it's also unusable. So here at etrailer, we went through and addressed those problems. And we have a whole line of different extenders.

Some four inch and a quarters, some for two inch and some adapters as well. So, regardless of what kind of hitch you may have and what vehicle you have, we got you covered with our line of extenders and adapters. This one right here is the second largest for your two inch hitch receiver. A couple of useful measurements: This is going to extend about 13 and 13/16 of an inch from the center to the center here. From the center of this hitch pin hole, it goes in your hitch receiver.

To the edge is gonna be three inches. And then up here from the center of the hitch pin hole to the front face is going to be 2 5/8 of an inch. The diameter of the hitch pin hole is gonna be 5/8 of an inch. And this does not come with the kit. So you will have to grab one separately if you don't already have one.

It's just like any other accessory. Just gonna put it in and then put our hitch pin hole in. Once that's done, you're ready to load up whatever other kind of hitch accessory you want to. One thing that does not come with the kit which I suggest doing is we do want to prevent all that rattle. So we do have a anti-rattle device that we designed for these specific types of extenders or accessories.

Meaning if we do have a, if we do have a solid shank like we do on our extender, we're not gonna be able to have a threaded hitch pin, nor are we gonna be able to insert something on the inside of the hitch of the accessory, just because it's solid. So with this, all you gotta do is put it on like that. And we're gonna take a three quarter inch socket to tighten this down and we wanna tighten it down as evenly as possible. And once you have that tightened down, it's completely solid. So we're not gonna hear that rattling whenever we're going down the road, if the windows are down, but also our accessories aren't gonna be rattling around either. The hitch extender is gonna have a 350 pound tongue weight and a 3,500 pound gross trailer weight. But that is just for the extender. With any extender, whether it's etrailer's extender or any of the other ones on our site, you are gonna cut your hitches capacity in half. So look at the ratings that you have on your hitch, cut those in half. And we do wanna make sure that we're not going to exceed those ratings because something will eventually break. We wanna make sure everybody's safe on the road. So just know that fun facts about any type of hitch extender. And that's pretty much it. We listened to you and you had these problems with your hitches and we solved them. So all you really need to do is grab the right length and the right size to solve your problem. And that's pretty much it for a look at the line of etrailer hitch extenders..

This product will serve my purpose perfectly. I searched for a solid shank on an hitch extender and etrailer provided me with multiple options. I was especially pleased that the solid shank extended 3 inches into the hollow 2”x2” receiver for additional strength. etrailer always comes through.

Ordered this to fit with an eTrailer hitch for my Rav4. This was recommended as the correct extender by live chat support. Does not fit. Will not line up for the bolt to engage threads in the receiver. Also the lock is very wiggly and does not hold the extender firmly in the receiver. Super disappointed.

My husband had been looking for one of these hitches for some time and could not find one locally. I tried Amazon and the company could not say when it would be shipped. After more than a week I did a search and found you guys and ordered it expecting it this coming Wednesday. To our surprise and delight, it is exactly what he has been looking for and we received it two days early! Thank you so much for such prompt service and having what we needed!

by:

Works great! Allows us to carry our golf cart and our small camper!

by:

I would definitely give these items and more importantly your sales and service. 5 stars
My new F150 has a taller tailgate and the hitch receiver is farther under the bumper than my old ‘06 F250. It is also a little higher off the ground.
One picture shows how the tailgate hits tongue Jack on my utility trailer.
The ball was 8” from the receiver. The extension and new 4” drop ball mount move the ball to 14”.
So now the tailgate can open completely. Of course I needed to lengthen the chains and wiring pigtail. The trailer is only rated for 2900 lbs so it won’t exceed the decrease in load rating.

I have purchased trailer hitches for my last 3 vehicles. All bought on etrailer.com. I appreciate the high level of customer service !

by:

Etrailer has come through again with a product that was priced reasonably and most of all COMPLETED our search for our hitch!

by:

The hitch extender is axactly what I needed. I recently put a flat bed on my pickup truck and the hitch was no longer long enough to use until I got the extender. E trailer customer service was awesome as well

by:

I ordered a trailer hitch extension and it got lost in shipping. The folks at Etrailer immediately took care of me and shipped another one that I received 3 days later. Thank you everyone for your help!

by:

Ashley is awesome. You should be glad that you have her Her customer service skills go above and beyond especially in today’s world. I would be proud to have had her work for me . The hitch extension was as advertised. The hitch extension and rear brackets were a day late which cost me extra time, into this Monday to get installed. Also missed the weekend for camping.

by:

Very High quality product, as has been everything else that I have purchased from E Trailer. Purchased to allow me to open the tailgate on my Wrangler with a carrier installed. I will try to post pictures as soon as I use it.

by:

Quality was good but I ordered the wrong length. Had to return for 14” long

by:

It looks great, but my excellent review is because of the service I received from Amy. She went above and beyond. etrailer is great because of service like that, and of course good parts.

by:

This prefect for my rack. The right size

That
is what she said

by:

This 18"Hitch Extender is justed what i needed to extend my boat trailer so i can use my tailgate on my pickup truck.Looks well made.Packed well+Fast Shipping.

by:

Extender arrived on time. It fit the hitch well with minimal play. I did apply some grease to the insert tang to prevent rust from friction of the two metal parts and to make it easier to slide the extender in and out. My only suggestion is that the cotter pin should come packagers with the extender

by:

Quality product, welds on the steel are very good.

  • Availability of 2-1/2 Inch Hitch Reducer With 11 Inch Extension
The closest thing we have to an all in one reducer and hitch extender is the # e53YR you looked at which is too short. To get an 11" extension you can use a reducer sleeve like the # e26YR and then add an extender on top of it. If this is just for a bike rack you could use the # HE6000 which is adjustable out to 11". If you plan on using this for towing, the closest size would be the # e28YR which is a 13-13/16" extension. Keep in mind, the use of any extender will reduce your hitch capacity...

  • What Hitch Extension Is Needed For Carrying E-Bikes Behind a 2023 Ford Bronco On 1Up Bike Carrier?
Using a 18" Extension # e48YR is most likely going to extend the bike rack much further than what you are needing. If your 2023 Ford Bronco does not come with a receiver we do have the Draw-Tite # DT37GR which is specifically designed longer. This will place the hitch pin center hole 3-1/2" behind the rear bumper which better allows for hitch mounted accessories to clear the rear tire. A Curt Receiver # C76WR which is more like the factory option places the hitch pin hole 3" in on the rear...

  • Can You Use Hitch Extender with Carpod Cargo Carrier for Hatch Clearance
In regards to using a hitch extender like the etrailer Hitch Extender for 2" Trailer Hitches part # e28YR, you'll need to reduce the weight capacity of the trailer hitch by 50%. For example, if you're using a trailer hitch with a 350 lb tongue weight rating your new rating with the adapter will be 175 lbs which includes the weight of the cargo and carrier. If you need to maintain your hitches weight capacity you can switch to a swing-away carrier like the Yakima EXO Swing Away Enclosed...

  • 24 inch Hitch Extender Recommendation for 1991 Dodge Ram D350
It's not safe to use more than one hitch extender at a time but I do have a solution for you. Since 24 inches is really long for a hitch extender you'd have to go with a Torklift style extender like the part # TLE1524 which will require you to install a Torklift double hitch on your 1991 Dodge Ram D350 like with the # TLF1000 and you'd be set. I realize this is a much more expensive route but it's the only way to pull off what you are looking for and be safe.
