Replacing your 7 foot bunks with 5 foot roller bunks like part # DL21741 would give you less flat surface support but may work fine for your 1448 Alweld boat. These roller bunks have a weight capacity of 3000 lbs. You would use adjustable supports that allow you to make sure the boat is resting as flat as possible against the bunk, giving it the maximum support. You would place the roller bunks near the rear of the trailer to take advantage of the rollers when the boat makes initial contact while loading.

As long as you have sufficient support for the boat at the front of the trailer the 5 ft roller bunks should work well. If you feel the 5 ft roller bunks do not provide enough support, you could add carpeted bunks toward the front of the trailer to provide the needed support.

Any time you are looking at bunk placement you want to pay attention to a couple of things. On Aluminum boats, there will normally be strakes running the length of the boat hull for support. You can see where these are by the pattern of rivets they are attached with. These strakes can be attached externally or they may be attached to the hull internally. You should avoid running the bunks directly under the rivets or strakes and run the bunks parallel to the strakes. This would reduce the amount of friction the rivets might cause.

To attach the roller bunks to your trailer frame I recommend the Roller Bunk Bracket, part # DL21742. These are sold individually and 4 are required for each roller bunk you install.
