How to Determine the Lift Capacity You Need in a Jack

A trailer jack lifts your trailer high enough at the tongue to allow you to couple it with your vehicle. Usually, your tongue weight is about 10-15% of your gross trailer weight (GTW). For example, a 10,000-lb trailer has a tongue weight of 1,000 lbs to 1,500 lbs. To raise the tongue of a trailer this size, you'd need a jack that can handle a static load of no less than 1,500 lbs. And, yes, it's okay to have a jack with a weight rating that is higher than your trailer's tongue weight. In fact, a jack with a higher capacity should operate more efficiently, allowing you to spend less time cranking and more time fishing.

After a year of use, the trailer jack is still working like a champ! Replacing a wheeled stand was a good call. The boat is too heavy to roll around and only increases the risk of rolling down the driveway.

by:

bought this jack for our 29' RB-S trailer and it worked out perfectly. easy swap! Customer service was quick to respond with a quote as well.

by:

Easy to install. Rugged and easily adjustable. Second trailer I’ve used this jack.

by:

Nice jack. It's on a trailer with about 100 pounds of tongue weight empty. I store it outside. It has held up well. I have a small bucket over the top to keep the rain out.

by:

Great product. Easiest thing I have ever installed on my boat or trailer.

by:

It's exactly what I needed. Easy to install, and what a pleasure! Just drop the sleeve and a couple cranks- No more wheel spinning around.

by:

The tongue jack is constructed very well. It lifts the trailer for my 25 ft boat effortlessly. It is low geared and easy to raise or lower the trailer.

by:

Excellent service and fast shipping. Will definitely buy from e trailer again.

Great replacement jack. Working flawlessly exceeding my expectations!!

by:

Trailer Jack served as a direct replacement on the Sport Trail trailer for my 26’ center console. Timely delivery and good value on the part

by:

Best jack I've ever had. 1 year later and still very smooth. I like the verticle position that allows water to drain out.

by:

Bought this jack to replace cheap original equipment on an aluminum pontoon trailer. Super easy to crank, love the drop leg, still like new after a year of use in salty south Florida. Highly recommend 2500 pound jack.

by:

I love it! I bought a used trailer for my 50 million pound pontoon ( OK, maybe 2500 lbs). The jack that came with it failed the fourth time I lifted it, and the tongue weight was so high that a concrete block I was using underneath shattered with the tongue resting on it. I replaced the broken concrete with a block of wood which is much better. The old jack also had a wheel which was utterly useless because of the trailer weight. This new jack installed easily and cranks smoothly and with almost no effort. Also has a grease zirc built in, but did not say how often to grease it. Very nice...........

Peachy keen. I am a happy dog

by:

Completely 100% satisfied with this flat bottom tongue jack. Works like a champ and is much safer than the Jack with the wheel that came on the trailer. Goes straight up and down and does not twist or bend like the original wheel bottom kaxl that came on the trailer.

After a year Jack still works like new. This is the only one I would buy as I’ve had several in the past with the wheel that were unstable and unsafe. Remember to grease the fitting on the standard at least once a year.

EXACT REPLACEMENT FOR MY RUSTED OUT TRAILER JACK

by:

Good replacement, make sure to grease it up good.

by:

Jack is perfect for my boat trailer. It has the proper lift height to drain the deck water from boat compared to original trailer jack. It’s very sturdy and stable for this 25’ trailer. Great product.

Works well except the crank handle is very rusty and will need some sanding and paint.

by:

the jack showed up quickly and was easy to install

by:

Looks to be a quality product, installation was straight forward and jack works nicely.

by:

Delivery as promised! Quality jack! Super easy to install. We had ordered the same jack from Autoplicity and they screwed up our order big time. We should have known better! Old jack with wheel was on bent frame and wouldn't stay straight! Thank u we are very happy!

Still working great!! Only wish I spent the extra money and got the one that doesnt have to be manually raised. Still happy I have it!

by:

So far so good. well crafted, Straight forward putting it on w/ 4 bolts. Importantly kept the boat upright. Shipping was quick and price was perfect. Now comes the test of time. Fingers crossed that with some grease from time to time i will get many yrs out of it.

by:

Excellent customer service and follow up from customer service after my item arrived. A shipping issue was resolved in a timely and professional manner. I bought a second trailer jack from this company just because of this!

by:

I bought this one over the less expensive one on Amazon. I feel it was well worth it and is built a little better. It works exceptionally well and the grease zerk is great. The adjustable leg is a game changer. I want to have this last my life of use for it.

by:

The trailer tongue jack was exactly as described and fit. It seems very sturdy and I feel it will last a good long time. I have been an etrailer customer since 2008 and never had a complaint about any part of any transaction in the past. This time however, communication was an issue. I never got an email that my order was received. I had to write to etrailer days later to confirm they received my order. Then I received an email that the item was "in stock" , but wouldn't ship for 8 more days. Had to write to them about that.... The order then shipped promptly. Thise issues would not stop me from doing business with them again, because I know I get good quality parts at fair prices. But I do hope their customer communication goes back to what it was...

My Square Jack / Ram Jack, lasted from April 2013 – about April 2019

I purchased a 2013 inshore Sundance DX22, the trailer came with a 2500 lb Ram Jack, that jack lasted till 2019 that’s around six years. I then came to etrailer.com to purchase a MJSQ-2500B Square Jack which is made by Ram Jack and is the same jack that came with my trailer.

my Ram jack was a 2013 (looked identical) to the etrailer Square jack that I ordered (see pics), the jack lasted till 2019 before the bottom rusted enough so that the shaft on the inside would not extend out or retract inward.

I live in Florida near the salt water, and launch in salt water all year round, so the jack does get salt spray and salt mist on it all the time, and sometimes the bottom of the jack is in the salt water, depending on the tide at the ramps.

Having had boats all my life, six years is a long time for a jack to last in salt water environment. Just to give you an idea of my saltwater environment, my Dodge Ram 3500 bumper and tail pipe rusted out before my jack did (see pics)

Not saying that this is normal or not, just that this was my experience with my Ram jack. Hope my new Ram jack lasts as long.

Pics show it mounted, I decided to spray some zinc galvanized paint on the bottom of the jack, just for a little added protection.,

As far as etrailer goes, from time to time I order parts from them, they never disappoint.

Thanks etrailer for my replacement Ram jack.
