The items I ordered will allow me to adapt my utility trailer for transporting my sea kayaks. Curt and Hopkins are both quality manufacturers.
On a shipping note, the box arrived at the Post Office broken wide open. Your shipping folks need to wrap small, heavy, items in bubble wrap. Then stabilize it with foam peanuts. Just putting it in a box then stuffing the box with craft paper does not cut it. Items were not damaged so I am good to go.

Works great and reasonably priced. etrailer Customer Service is absolutely the very best. My first shipment arrived missing the hitch extension. Customer Service quickly responded to my communications and shipped a replacement the same day.
As you can see from the photo the hitch extender is perfect for my Polaris Ranger and allows me to use my small lawn n yard implements.
I highly recommend etrailer.

This extender does a pretty good job of keeping my bike away from the rear radar system in my Venza so the backup warning system does not engage in error. Beware it’s pretty heavy.

Still working as a year ago.

by:

This hitch adapter has worked perfectly as an extension for using a bike rack that extends past the trailer spare tire.

by:

perfect length for my specific application. Because the end piece is solid I was not able to insert an anti-rattle device into it. Therefore I will probably weld the extender to the double receiver since it'll be a permanent application.

by:

The extension works perfectly on my class C motor home. Now my cargo carrier doesn't interfere with the back ladder.

by:

Good quality for fair price. The perfect extension I needed for my fifth wheel to install a bike raxk

by:

I had a problem with my order, which called for the order to be sent again. I received the second order in two days, which was greatly appreciated! The items I received were exactly what I wanted and high quality. The customer service to fix my order problem was excellent!

by:

This product is solid and clearly can handle the weight load as stated.

by:

Fits trailer perfectly...arrived in ti.ely fashion...thank you

Good work, efficient servive

Curt’s brand, only the best! USA made, The shaft that goes into the hitch is solid steel not the hollow China crap. I used the hitch extension to make a rear hitch step 12” wide by 38” long for my ford van. I strap my kayaks on top for when we go camping this step just gives me that need height to get them in the kayak saddles before I climb on top to tie them down. I put two kayaks on top so the 38” across comes in handy. With my front hitch I can also put it in the front when I’m working on my van or truck to give me that extra hieght - I’m 6’ and I can’t reach a lot of stuff, even cleaning the windshield.

by:

I had a back ordered item that eventually came along with some other items I ordered at the same time. I’m not good about waiting but the wait was worth it as the entire order came a couple days ago and I immediately started using the items. Thanks for getting it right.

Works very well just like advertised.

by:

Box was damaged and there was no item in box I already called and spoke to a nice customer service lady

by:

The weld looks solid, but needs ground down, or the hole drilled in a different location. The weld prevented the holes to line up. I had to go get a grade 5 1/2" bolt to secure it in place, rather than a hitch pin.

by:

I order a 14" steel (2" type) hitch extension and I received a heavy steel, well-made extension; as advertised. eTrailer found that upgraded faster shipping was available at the same price as regular slower shipping, so they upgraded me. Very nice service!

by:

It is pretty long so works well with exterior spare tire vehicles or if you want access to truck tailgates down with load extenders. Have not used it in that capacity as of yet.

by:

This product is well built and quality! It allows me to use the hitch platform on my Jeep liberty without having to remove the spare tire. Exactly what I was looking for and a quick delivery as well! Great investment.

by:

Works great had one on my Motorhome it broke had to buy a new one on the road way to long

Hasnt given me any problems yet

by:

Thank you for your email, I was amazed how quick I received my item. Just bought a newtruck I tow an atv and on my old truck I dented up my tailgate from the device that lowers and raises the trailer, this extender did the trick, now the tailgate on my new truck won't get all screwed up.

by:

Worked great ! Solved problem opening tailgate on jeep tj with spare tire mounted. Opens enough to reach in .

by:

Just what it says fits great. eTrailer is fast and easy as always. Great experience shopping with.

by:

Product is just what we needed and we put it to use immediately with no problems. It enables us to freely engage the rear lift door of our vehicle with my handicap scooter loaded on it's carrier. Great for us.

by:

Great service!!

Ordered a 14 inch trailer extension and the quality is a 10 out of 10. Probably weighs 25lbs. Was very quickly sent to me, really days before I expected it. Great company to do business with.

  • How to Extend Hitch Connection Between Trailer and Truck to Allow Tailgate to be Fully Lowered
I have a solution for you, but the Roadmaster Anti-Rattle Hitch Extender for Tow Bars - 2" Hitches - 7-3/4" Extension, # RM-071-1075, is designed to be used in flat towing applications. When flat towing a vehicle behind an motorhome there is less tongue weight on the hitch than when you are towing a trailer. That's why the Roadmaster hitch extender has a low tongue weight rating and should not be used in trailer applications. I recommend using a ball mount with a longer shank, like the...

  • How To Carry Bike Rack Between Motorhome and Towed Vehicle
In order to place a bike rack between the motorhome and towed vehicle you'll want to use one of the Roadmaster Dual Hitch Receiver Adapter for Tow Bars like part # RM-077-2 or part # RM-077-4. This will provide an extension in addition to the additional receiver tube opening. The Curt Hitch Extender part # C45795 can be used for flat-towing but like with any trailer hitch extender will reduce the weight capacity of the trailer hitch by 50% or 3,500 lbs whichever is lower so it's not a...

  • Will the Swagman XTC4 4-Bike Rack Work On a Toyota Sienna Or Is Hitch Extender Needed
The Swagman XTC4 4-Bike Rack part # S64665 is a great option for a Toyota Sienna. It would not require any sort of hitch extension; the hatch would still be accessible with the bikes removed and the arms folded down. If you wanted to use a hitch extension like part # C45795 then you'd have weight capacities reduced by 50% so not a good idea.

  • Solution for Lengthening Distance Between Hitch and Boat Trailer for Launching
We may have a similar solution that would work. If you needed an 18 inch extension the part # HE18 would give you more length to lower the trailer into the ramp. Basically this fits into your 2 inch trailer hitch and gives you a second hitch opening 18 inches back from that. For a slightly smaller extension we have the part # C45795 which would give you 14 inches instead. You should note that these extensions cut the capacity of the hitch they are installed in by 50 percent.

When the Yakima LongArm Truck Bed Load Extender # Y01149 is in the fully extended position then it can be used with the tailgate down on your 2012 Toyota Tundra. This extender is not designed to be used in the upright position with the tailgate down as it would definitely hit your tailgate. To get around this issue, you could install a hitch extender which would allow the Yakima LongArm Exender to be in the upright position with your tailgate down, which seems to be your overall goal here...

  • Hitch Extender Limitations For Bike Rack
If you have a class III hitch receiver like # 75547 on your 2011 Honda CR-V then you'll be able to use an extension # C45795. Extensions will cut your hitches weight capacity in half so if you have a class I hitch like # C11555 you shouldn't use the extension. If you wanted to get more out of your extension, I would recommend getting the Kuat pivot 2 # PVP20B. This will give you FULL access to your back hatch whenever your parked getting ready for your ride or relaxing after a day on the trails.

  • Clearance Behind Rear Mounted Spare Tire On Hummer H2
To determine if there is enough clearance from the rear mounted spare tire on your Hummer H2 for a Cargo or Motorcycle Carrier or hitch mounted bike rack you will want to take a couple measurements. You will need a tape measure and a straight edge, like a yardstick or a dowel. Then measure the distance from the center of the hitch pin hole...

Adapters and extenders like the 14-inch Curt # 45795, the 7-inch Brophy # HE06 and those from Blue Ox do make it convenient to gain clearance in some applications but they also have the unavoidable negative side-effect of reducing your hitch's capacity by as much as 50-percent. Adapters also introduce the chance for more random motion and rattle in a towing system. It is never a good idea to use multiple extenders - even if welded together - as these items would not have been designed...

  • Will The Swagman XC2 Fit With The Spare Tire On A 2017 Jeep Wrangler?
The measurement from the center of the hitch pin to the closest hoop is 10 inches. Measure from the center of your hitch pin to the end of the spare tire. If that measurement is less than 10 inches then you will be fine. If not you want to get an extender like # C45795. If I owned a Wrangler, I would get a swing away system like the Kuat Pivot # PVP20B. This will allow you to have FULL access to the back of your jeep!

  • Solution for Clearing Spare Tire on Jeep Wrangler for Hitch Mounted Cargo Carrier
We do have a large selection of hitch extenders that are designed for exactly the situation you described in your question. The particular extender you choose will depend on how much distance you are needing in order to clear the spare tire on your Jeep Wrangler. I recommend taking a quick measurement from the center of the hitch pin hole on your hitch receiver, to the outermost edge of the spare tire. You will just need to make sure you pick an extender that will reach at least this distance....

First to determine if Curt bike rack # C18013 will fit your existing set up you can measure the amount of free space available on the weight distribution shank. The clamp part of the ball mount requires just 1-1/2 inches of free space on the shank. It is not meant to fit on a 2-1/2 inch shank or adapter/extender. The regular e2 weight distribution shank measures 4 inches from the center of the hitch pin hole to the support gusset. On most hitches the distance from the center of the pin...

  • 12 inch Hitch Extender for 2 inch Hitch that Can be Used for Towing
For a similar 14 inch hitch extender that can be used to tow a trailer we have the Curt part # C45795 which would work well. It has a capacity of 3,500 lb trailer weight but you need to keep in mind it cuts the capacity of the hitch it's installed in by 50 percent. Blue Ox's extender was made to be used with flat towing setups so that's why it's not rated for trailer use.

We do not have a good option for an extender to tow a 7,000 lb trailer because extenders do cut the tongue weight of the hitch on your vehicle in half. • Solution for Gaining Clearance to Open Hatch of Honda Pilot with Trailer Attached
As you mentioned in your question the Blue Ox Hitch Extender # BX88265 should only be used for hitch mounted accessories (bike racks, cargo carriers, etc) or for flat towing. Flat towing refers to pulling another vehicle with all 4 of its wheels on the ground, typically behind an RV. Since all the wheels are on the ground of the towed vehicle a flat towing setup doesn't create much tongue weight at all so the hitch extender is strong enough to support the weight.
