Can Curt Clamp-On Bike Rack be Used on 2-1/2 to 2 Inch Adapter and Weight Distribution

Question:

I have a 2.5 in receiver on my truck. I have an e2 weight distribution system that is designed for 2 in I do have a snug reducer that works now I pull a 6-7000 lbs trailer I am considering an extension so i can mount a bike carrier CURT-18013 between the truck and TT. I do not think I have enough room now to mount it. Do you sell an extension that I could use that would also reduce from 2.5 to 2 inches, so I could have one less part to worry about? Or should use the reducer I have, and use a standard 2 in extension? I am also wondering if the extension might be too big anyway for a clamp that is designed for 2 in reciever.

First to determine if Curt bike rack # C18013 will fit your existing set up you can measure the amount of free space available on the weight distribution shank. The clamp part of the ball mount requires just 1-1/2 inches of free space on the shank. It is not meant to fit on a 2-1/2 inch shank or adapter/extender.

The regular e2 weight distribution shank measures 4 inches from the center of the hitch pin hole to the support gusset. On most hitches the distance from the center of the pin hole to the face of the receiver is 2-1/2 inches. That would leave the required 1-1/2 inches for the bike rack so take the measurement on your hitch to determine if this is the case with your hitch.

Another option is to use the Bike Bunk # CC-275. It mounts at the front of a trailer to the A-frame and holds a bike rack approved for use on a trailer such as # S64152-2. The bike rack itself weighs about 25 pounds and the bike bunk has a 100 pound capacity. That means the combined weight of the bikes cannot exceed 75 pounds.
