Video Transcript for Review of Curt Hitch Ball - Trailer Hitch Ball - C40030

Today we're going to take a look at the CURT two and five sixteenths diameter long shank chrome hitch ball with a 15,000 pound weight capacity. Now, this hitch ball provide a connection point for your trailer's coupler. Does use find threads to provide a nice tight, strong grip. It's a treated steel which is very durable, has a nice corrosion-resistant chrome finish to it. If you notice these flat edges right here, these are built-in wrench flats that make it very easy to hold the ball in place while you're tightening the nut. Now, the lock washer and the nut is all included for installation.

Again, the ball diameter on this is two and five sixteenths of an inch. The weight capacity, which is stamped on the top of the ball, is 15,000 pounds.Just to give you a few dimension on this, we're going to measure the shank diameter, which is going to be right at one and a quarter inch diameter, and the length of it from the bottom to the end is right at two and five eighths inches long. It is designed to fit ball platforms from three quarter inch to one inch thick. But again, you'll just drop this through the hole in the ball mount, put your washer on, put your nut on, and then just tighten it down and torque it to the factory specs. But that should do it for the review on the CURT two and five sixteenths inch long shank chrome hitch ball with a 15,000 pound weight capacity..

Quality is fine. The experience is the reason for the 3 star rating. This ball does not fit the ball mount you sent, and I didn't figure it out until it was too late to return. As always, helpful, friendly staff, but this order had a couple of things the didn't match up. For example, the ball mount did not come with a pin to hold it into the receiver. As a novice, it would have been helpful to have your staff identify this.

I am sorry that the incorrect ball was recommended. I see from your order that you bought ball mount part # C45030 which has a one inch diameter hole. A 2 and five sixteenth ball that would work with that ball mount would be part # C40005.

I put a trailer hitch on my 2012 Chevy Cruze. I don't use it very often. It went on easily as did the wiring harness. I'll use it more this summer. Two thumbs up.

Very good quality. Original shipment box was damaged and this item was missing. etrailer reshipped me a replacement very quickly with no questions. Great customer service.

It was the quality I expected. Works gr eat

Great product

by:

Great products at a really good price.

by:

The ball works and is rated higher than my hitch.

by:

Got this hitch for my 2014 Ram 2500. It came with an adapter to use standard 2" ball mounts I already had from my old truck. The adapter wobbled and rattled so put some duct tape on it. That stops the rattle but makes it hard to change ball mounts!

I got this correct size ball mount and now no rattles or problems! Looks better too. Great Finish and welds. I got the matching Curt 2-5/16" ball and all is good now!

Ball is still going STRONG!

Received the advice I needed fro sizing the trailer hitch for my trailer. Plus speedy delivery of my order. Thanks Jacob!

by:

This product is well made, preforms well and is easy to adjust. The brake pad shows very little ware after 5,000 miles. The paint finish appears to hold up well and is very durable.

by:

Good price for the capacity. Will be fine with my 1 inch thick drawbar. Note that the recommended torque spec is 450 ft-lbs; I purchased a digital torque adapter for the installation.

by:

Would be better if not made in China, but made in America.

by:

I own a 31ft Cabin Cruiser boat that weighs around 10,000lbs and the trailer itself weighs over 2000lbs. Every time I would pull the boat out of the water the back of my truck would squat a little and the trailer jack would occasionally scrape the ground. So I purchased this Hitch Ball and mounted it upside down so that the ball is higher than the bumper of the truck and now the trailer is level when cruising down the interstate fully loaded.

This Hitch ball is very heavy and completlely solid! I dont hear any noises coming from the hitch at all.

Etrailer had the best price around and will always contine shopping with them anytime I need any trailer parts

by:

This hitch ball is bomber.

The Reese weight distribution hitch would likely work fine for a trailer somewhere between 20-28 feet. Been towing for years, and find it does distribute the weight nicely onto the truck. However, with a long trailer (I am towing a 36 foot Rockwood with the weight of 3 large slides), you're going to have highway speed sway every time. There is just no two ways about this. Dialing it in precisely, new shocks, new tires, new truck - 3/4 ton to a one ton, is not going to fix it. The passing semi trucks will get you side to side if traveling at 50 mph or more, and it is uncontrollable at times. If you go with this hitch, you will be avoiding highways like the plague, trying to make sure you don't lose your trailer and more. Just spend the extra money and get a Hensley or Pro Pride hitch. They are the only hitches that work for weight distribution AND sway elimination on long trailers. If those are too pricey, seriously think twice about purchasing a long trailer - you will never have the same issues with a fifth wheel.

by:

Bought this hitch to use on a Jayco toy hauler at a dealers recommendation who sold several different types of load distribution/stabilizer products. Worked great so I bought another one for our new North Trail which is same size but 1/2 the weight. Only this time I installed it myself. Support from etrailer was excellent. They know their product. I actually ordered the wrong weight bars, and another part was missing and we had a trip scheduled! They got us the parts ASAP and we were ready to go with time to spare. One point of caution: When installing the ball, it requires 400 lbs of torque. I took this to a truck repair shop and did it for me free in just a minute.

by:

It's a ball... But a nice one. Want real reviews? Ask me in three months what I think. Not the day after I got it... Service from eTrailer was aok. Fortunately UPS lets us upgrade shipping from USPS delivery to UPS straight through. The ball appears to have heavy chrome. That will be a plus!

Great product! I got it because of the high end specs. I have a equipment and a dump trailer. Never have to worry about exceeding the GVW and TW of that ball! Peace of mind is great...Best regards,

by:

As it should be. Bought to go on an equilizer weight distribution hitch. Works great and good bang for the buck.

by:

I upgraded to this ball as I also ordered a 14,000 # convert-a ball with a 1.25 inch hole to pull my new dump trailer. Is a very nice setup with the dampening feature.

  • Best Weight Distribution for 2014 Ram 2500 and Trailer with 1,322 Pound Tongue Weight
To choose a weight distribution system you will need to go by the total tongue weight of the set up. This is calculated by taking the tongue weight of the trailer, when loaded and ready to tow, and adding to that the weight of anything loaded behind the rear axle of the tow vehicle. An 800 pound system is rated much too low for a tongue weight at 1,322 pounds. You will want a system that is rated for 800 to 1,500 pounds such as # RP66130 that you have referenced. This system also comes...

  • Recommended Weight Distribution System for 2016 Grand Cherokee and 700 lb Tongue Weight Trailer
For your 700 lb tongue weight, the weight distribution system I recommend is the Fastway e2 Weight Distribution w/ 2-Point Sway Control - Round - 10,000 lbs GTW - Without Shank # FA94-00-1033. You will also need the 2 inch ball # A-90 or the 2-5/16 inch ball # C40030 ; whichever matches your trailer coupler size. I know you don't need sway control, but this is the best system for your application at the lowest cost, so it simply comes with that benefit. For a weight distribution shank...

  • Correct Curt TruTrack Weight Distribution Hitch For a 2018 Forest River Wildwood M-171RBXL Camper
You will want the Curt TruTrack Weight Distribution System w/ Sway Control # C17499 for your 2018 Forest River Wildwood M-171RBXL. This system is rated for tongue weights of 500-800lbs with a maximum trailer weight of 8,000lbs. For your current tongue weight of 521lbs and adding 40lbs for the 2-20lb propane cylinders, 50lbs for the battery and box will put you at 611lbs. This leaves you with 189lbs of additional gear on the front of your Wildwood. You do not need to include the weight...

  • Recommended Weight Distribution Hitch For a 2016 Forest River Surveyor Travel Trailer 6,650LBS Dry
For your 2016 Forest River Surveyor I am going to recommend the Reese Strait-Line Weight Distribution System # RP66084. As you did not list your exact model I checked the models with your dry weight and I believe that you either have a 285IKDS(713lbs tongue weight) or 32RKDS(849lbs tongue weight). The tongue weight is the important number to consider when selecting your weight distribution hitch. The Reese Straight-Line that I recommend is compatible with tongue weights from 700-1200lbs....

  • Recommended Weight Distribution System for 9,000 Pound Camper and F-250 with 6 Inch Lift
The most important factor to consider when picking out a weight distribution system is the total tongue weight of your towing setup. This number includes both the loaded tongue weight of your trailer, along with any added cargo weight coming from behind the rear axle of your Ford F-250. Many systems include an adjustable shank, or one can simply be added, so that you can tow your trailer level with the 6-inch lift on your truck. Good question, and you can definitely still use a hitch stabilizer with the cushioned Convert-A-Ball Ball Mount for 2" Hitches # AMSC6HD. Even with a stabilizer there is still going to be some play in the hitch, so combining it with the cushioning of the Convert-A-Ball is going to be the best way overall to reduce any bounce or rattling, and I recommend going with the Brophy Stabilizer Clamp # RSCP. • Should Weight Distribution Be Used With Suspension Enhancement System On 2014 Dodge Ram 1500
If your truck is sagging due to your trailer then I would suggest the Reese Weight Distribution, part # 49570. This system works with tongue weight from 600 to 1,200 lbs and 12,000 gross towing weight. This system should provide a more even ride for the trailer and the vehicle. Tongue weight is typically 10 to 15 percent of the gross trailer weight. So for a 7,000 pound trailer that would be 700 to 1,050 pounds. Suspension enhancement like part # TDR1500DQ, will help if sagging is due...

I looked up your 2018 Jayco Octane SL 272 (nice trailer) and I noticed a couple of things about it that could affect the fit of a weight distribution system such as # RP66074. Since the Curt MV Weight Distribution System w/ Friction Sway Control # C17063 you are using is not ideal for trailers with excessive sway like you are experiencing, adding the Tuson Electronic Sway Control System for Electric Trailer Brakes # 335TSC-1000 would be a great option.
